Narcoleptic Jumper 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2007 this was one of the best episodes of the season, IMO. Steve Carell needs to write more episodes. "can you smell the trees in the nature?" - one of the best lines ever

The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2007 I'm not sure how I felt about the Deposition itself. Some of the lines were clever ("divorce vows"), and I liked the resolution, but it really wasn't all that fun getting there. The B-plot though, with the uninspired trash talking, apparent lack of character development, and the introduction of yet another Dwight obsession? Awful. Jim's shirt was the highlight. foleyfanforever88 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2007 I really wasn't feeling this episode. The only parts that I enjoyed were Kelly's trash talking, especially singing her own version of "Girlfriend", and Toby laughing at the whole "Who is the Ryan woman" thing. They really need to stay in THE OFFICE because this whole season has been very disappointing after the past two seasons.
Mik 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2007 I loved this episode. The trashtalking was great, the deposition had some great lines, including the "That's what she said" portion and also the "heya there, buddy" hotdog man in the cold opening. It was also heartbreaking how Michael got thrown under the bus by anyone and everyone in the room. "Ryan is just as hot as Jan but in a different way." Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2007 The b-plot with Jim and ping pong did absolutely nothing for me except make Kelly even less likeable. She's a complete and utter cunt. And they ignored the obvious solution of trying to convince Dwight to play Darryl at Ping Pong. The deposition, however, was painful to watch in the best possible way. It was fantastically written, with Michael getting it from both sides and completely not knowing how to deal with it. The "that's what she said" confusion was funny, but was also a nice character thing and a little sad, especially after the closing credits from last week (which is steadily becoming one of my favorite scenes from the show). He does the "that's what she said" joke to, as he said, releave tension and it totally hits a wall and ends up making things worse. What I think should have happened was mix and match these past two episodes. Have the deposition be the reason Michael is out of the office while Jim is in charge and becomes Michael, and then combine the Michael in the Woods with Jim Plays Ping-Pong to get the sub-par stuff out of the way. Yeah, it'd make one pretty bad episode, but it'd also make one really great episode, IMO.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2007 And they ignored the obvious solution of trying to convince Dwight to play Darryl at Ping Pong. What would be the point? Jim was doing it to "defend Pam's honor" - why would either Pam or Jim be satisfied w/ Dwight doing it? The ping-pong B-plot was fine. It provided a good counter to the heavy/dark deposition storyline. I got a big kick out of Toby opening up his heart to Michael, only to have Michael shove Toby's tray off the table. It seemed like it was more to shut Kelly up, and Dwight beating Darryl would probably work just as well.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2007 I don't see how it would shut Kelly up, as she'd just rag on Pam for Jim not being able to do it & having to run to Dwight.
C Dubya 04 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2007 Thought it was a decent episode overall. The parts with Toby laughing during the deposition were really perfect, as was Michael knocking Toby's tray off. Those were the two highlights for me.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2007 The whole Kelly thing didn't really make sense to me. Jim and Kelly has always been portrayed as having somewhat a near (by office standards) friendship with Kelly always yapping about things to Jim and Jim just listening while trying to leave. Now Kelly gets a boyfriend and all of sudden she dislikes Jim because he can't play Ping Pong?
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2007 Jealousy. Jim/Pam are the cute office couple, which probably takes some attention away from Kelly. Previously, Kelly/Ryan were the only open office couple, but now that Jim/Pam have taken over that role, and seem to be pulling it off waaaaay better than Kelly & Ryan ever did, it's probably eating away at her. AboveAverage484 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2007 Saw that Angela Kinsey is pregnant. Wonder if they'll work that into the show? Dwight Schrute (or Andy???) as a dad? Hmm. I don't know, you'd think Dwight would know all the precautions to be taken in order to engage in safe sex (being as how he's a stickler to detail), so I think it would be slightly out of character for him, at least IMO. Andy as a father would be disturbing, to say the least. Michael as a father would be awesome, however, although seeing as how he and Jan seem to be estranged it might be out of the question.
