Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2007 Wasn't Bret preaching family values and saying what a corrupting influence on kids DX were in 1997? I'm not denying HBK from back then was an asshole, but at least he was upfront about who he was, and wasn't making himself out to be some sort of saint. Banging a road rat in the back is different than a half-naked she-man coming out juggling salamis and you sporting a "Suck the cook" apron while your buddy bounces around thrusting his cotton-packed crotch at anything that moves. DX did their shit on screen, Bret didn't. It doesn't excuse him for anything, because he is still a hypocrite. Bret didn't want kids to be exposed to that behavior. Bret wasn't flaunting his affairs on screen and acting immature like Shawn was. What was on tv was different then what is their real life.
Atticus Chaos 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2007 I'd compare it to all these congressman who preach family values and then get caught in sex scandals with hookers/interns/guy in the toilet. If you're talking about cleaning up society and preserving morals and then coming down on those who don't, then really, you should have a pretty clean slate yourself and live up to your own standards. Granted it doesn't matter now, but what if all this "Bret sleeping around all the time" had came out back then? What would his younger fans have thought? Their hero was a liar? Mecca 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2007 Source - Wrestling Observer Newsletter Stephanie McMahon blew up before the No Mercy pay-per-view a few weeks ago regarding Chris Jericho being revealed as the SAVEUS campaign. She was really interested in keeping the return a surprise, thus was very upset it leaked. Her reaction was to run all the company cell phone records of the writing team as well as do a forensic check of their computers and e-mails. This is not the first time this has happened, as events have lead to this in the past, but they did not find a guilty party. Some writers were using their company cell phones to make excessive private calls and they go reamed for it. Several of the writers were said to be upset because they have been under added stress recently with having to completely re-write the No Mercy pay-per-view one week before the show due to John Cena being injured. They felt it was not fair they were getting blamed for the information being leaked. Stephanie is now talking about revising contracts that would disallow creative team members to speak out publicly and to specifically state that they don't have any ownership to their ideas. She also wants their contracts to ban them from being able to talk publicly after they are no longer with the company, about their experience with the company, or talk about the impressions of talent or anyone they met in the company. This would keep someone from going to TNA and sharing their WWE ideas.

garfieldsnose 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2007 That's what I said. Bret didn't bring his affairs on screen, but DX acted like they did on screen. I was referring to the guy who tried saying Bret should be held accountable like Shawn was for acting like that. But since Bret didn't do anything like that on screen, I really don't agree. However, Bret shouldn't be looked at as "so much better" than Shawn because he cheated on his wife. He was just smart not to bring anything like that on screen. Mecca 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2007 I dont know if this is new or not, but, heard this on the radio this morning: (WSB Radio) The World Wrestling Federation (Out of date, much?) says it will not cooperate with an investigation into the deaths of wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and son. In papers filed in court, the WWE calls a discovery motion a "wholesale fishing expedition." Authorities in Fayette County say Benoit killed his wife, Nancy, then their seven year old son, Daniel, before killing himself. The WWE has maintained it had nothing to do with the murder-suicide. In its filing, the organization said the request for documents was "abusive and improper and not remotely relevant to the determination of order of death.'' The order of death could be key in determining who stands to inherit millions of dollars from the Chris Benoit estate. Neither Benoit nor his wife left a will. Fayette County investigators have said Benoit killed his wife first, then his son. But, Nancy Benoit's parents have suggested that Daniel may have been the first to die, and not his mother. Atticus Chaos 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2007 I don't think a wrongful death suit would hold up in court, personally. As for Michael Benoit: I feel bad for the guy, but he seems to be desperate to shift the blame for what happened onto everyone but his son. Which is only natural of course, but everyone else shouldn't have to go along with it.

"Ownership of ideas" is a crock of shit, given how much storylines (no matter the thought processes behind them) are bound to repeat themselves in some fashion eventually. As far as stopping people from talking, it is just another notch in the wood as far as trying to make it seem like they are hiding something (no matter how large or small that something may be). RedJed 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2007 Whats stupid about the whole Steph is upset thing is that it didnt take a rocket scientist to figure out it was Jericho without anyone leaking it. There is so many clues that point to him in the vignettes that it was obvious that it was him - like immediately. This is a clear example of management not really getting the point. If something is creating a positive buzz, who the fuck cares? Stephanie needs to start thinking outside the box, but unfortunately I doubt that will ever happen. And yes, those writers would be fucking idiots to sign such an agreement to say the least.

JimmyHendricks 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2007 We had Batista in store for a signing at the Borders I worked at today. About 350 people showed up, not bad for the middle of a Tuesday. Myself and a cop waited outside to escort him in, and he showed up in a nice Vince-sized limo. He had a guy with him I didn't recognize. I was hoping for Bruce Prichard or Johnny Ace. Oh well. He's really quiet in person, but smiled and took photos with everyone. The line ended, and we all went to the office to get our personal stuff signed, and we heard more people had showed up. He quickly went back out and signed for another 15 minutes, which I thought was nice, since his time was up and he really didn't have to stay. Then I had him sign my Vengeance 2005 DVD insert, and we actually talked for a minute about his HITC with HHH, and how it's his favorite match. He said he was bummed that not too many stores carry the DVD anymore. Then the whole staff took a group photo, and he put his arm around me, which felt more like a headlock. He was a complete and total class act, and everyone (including the non fans) were really impressed with him. The funniest part was when a little kid tried to tell him how to reverse Taker's tombstone. He just sat there and gave him all the attention in the world. Here's a photo. Feel free to tell me how grotesque I look:

Twisted Intestine 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2007 That is a cool story. I sometimes forget about the kids who watch wrestling. If I was to become a wrestler, I think I'd appreciate talking to them alot more than talking to smart fans. Anyone know how many kids watch wrestling these days? It'd be cool to have some sort of program for them (radio or television) where they can call in and ask the wrestlers questions. Like a WOL type thing, but for marks(I'm assuming only children.. but I'm sure there's still a few older people who think wrestling is real), and marketed by the WWE. Have they ever done anything like that before? I'd love that if I was a kid.

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2007 I too found the whole "Steph is pissed over SaveUS222" completely idiotic. Nobody really leaked anything....hell it was all there to begin with! WWE all but told people it was Jericho. What else could anyone infer with those vignettes? So in other words she was pissed that people found out it was Jericho, when the actual TV bits themselves leaked that it was Jericho.

Cinzia didn't want to leave Italy and Hart didn't want to live the rest of his life there. People need to source stuff, you didn't write that. I googled it, and found that same sentence but wonder what's that from. Bret's an idiot if that's why they get divorced though. Shouldn't you decide this stuff before you get married? When Bret was doing Alladin, I saw him and his wife walking on Yonge Street. I thought she was his kid
death_by_burrito 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2007 That's cool about Batista listening to the kids advice. From everything I've heard, he is a classy dude to fans. As for the other question about how many kids watch these days, in my town plenty of them do. Every day I see kids walking around in John Cena and Rey Mysterio shirts. I remember I wore my Edge "sex and violence" shirt at work, and every kid that went in started talking about how Cena could kick his BUTT and so on and so forth. Ever since, they come to work they tell me that Cena is the best and I retort that Khali/Umaga/whoever is facing Cena at the moment is gonna beat him. Pretty funny stuff. I think it's a great idea. What do you guys think? This is a good idea on paper. However, I'd worry if this wouldn't be too close to the way Eugene used to copy other wrestlers moves. It would probably be more up to Ross and Lawler to get over that Santino was faking the funk. It could work.
