We're looking for the spoken words that elicited the hardest of forehead slaps in the year 2007. Here are some of mine, surely with more to come. Remember, something someone said, not something someone did. Feel free to add your own, then maybe we'll get to votin' as we approach the end of December.

"THAT AIN'T TRUE! Come after me! I'm a man! I'm forty!"

"We went away from the run because the Seahawks were eventually going to stop it."

"AND HERE COME THE YANKEES!"

"1 and 1 the count on Angel Pecan/Home run for Adolfo Soriano!/Here's Derrek Lee, Lee spent last year with Milwaukee and Texas."

"This is rough. The tears you hear in my voice are coming down the faces of the coaches."

I want to say the end of 2006 or early 2007; even so, that's just more goofy-ass than anger-inducing. With Gundy, it was an example of that sort of alpha-male egomania that's ever so present in college coaches that I hate so much. Listening to him chew out that woman made me angry, f'real. It was funny, yeah, but it was obnoxious first. The histrionic speaking-quietly-until-coming-out-of-nowhere "IT'S DIVISION ONE FOOTBALL!" was just plain funny.

how could you leave out George's Box?

More funny than stupid.

The Bears are who we thought they were!

More 2006 than 2007.

Nick Saban has to recover from that lost to Louisiana Monroe, JUST LIKE we had to recover from 9-11 and Pearl Harbor.

Because...you know...they are the same.

What? Who in the hell said THAT?

Why, Nick Saban of course. He called the lost a catastrophic event that his team must recover from.

"Changes in history usually occur after some kind of catastrophic event," Saban said during the opening remarks of his weekly news conference. "It may be 9-11, which sort of changed the spirit of America relative to catastrophic events. Pearl Harbor kind of got us ready for World War II, or whatever, and that was a catastrophic event."

Its kinda like alcoholism too.

"They talk about alcoholics and people like that who never ever change until they hit rock bottom," Saban said. "Well, they change because when they hit rock bottom they have an awareness, they have an acceptance and a commitment to change."

Oh man.... that's... bad. Remember when athletes didn't want to call going out to play the games war because we had just started one? I miss those days.

I'm pre-Voting on the Saban quote.

My favorite McCarverism of the year:

We had our friends at Stats, Inc. check and see whether more multi-run innings came with a lead off homer or a lead off walk. You would think that a lead off walk would lead to more big innings than a lead off home run. Not true. A lead off home run, this year, has lead to more multi-run innings than lead off walks. It's against conventional thinking.

Michael Kay: "...And when Wang pitches from the windup, his ERA is .53! That's like a high school ERA! His ERA from the stretch, though, is almost 16.00! That difference is 'UGE! So Wang really has trouble pitching from the stretch."

One of the guys who voted Magglio for MVP:

“The Yankees may very well still have made the playoffs without A-Rod, where the Tigers wouldn’t have even been close to being in contention,” Hawkins said. “A-Rod had a far more spectacular year with the home runs, but I felt Magglio had a more consistent year.”

I think the reason for the difference is apparent of course. Here is what really amazes me though. Those runs could only come from home runs, of which he has seven. That means Wang allowed only two multi-run home runs all season (and both of those were two run shots).

In fact, just for fun because we can do these type of searches now. Only once did Wang even allow three-runs in a single At Bat (Alex Gordon cleared the bases with a double on Sept. 9).

See, that one was one that should have been from 2006 but wasn't. I agree. What a stupid thing to say.

Naturally, my homerism puts Lovie's recent brainfart at the top of the list. Hey, we're all gonna die eventually, so let's just kill ourselves now.

Just saw this from Gregg Easterbrook:

"Put Joey Harrington behind New England's great offensive line, and he'd be a star."

........

No.

“Say I think that curve ball is more effective against a hitter, guys that play every day, because they’re looking fastball and trying to make a pitch.”

Bill Conlin chimes in.

Apparently, James decided that a Range Factor based on successful chances (putouts plus assists) times nine innings, divided by number of defensive innings played is more important than the result - for example, a friggin’ out.

A nugget from the dry wit of Romeo Crenell during a press conference this week discussing the injuries for Sunday.

Reporter: What is the status of Eric Wright?

Crenell: He is day-to-day.

Reporter: Really? Jim Donovan (Browns radio play-by-play guy) reported that he will be out 4 to 6 weeks.

Crenell: Well when Jim lets me know, I'll be sure to relay that to you guys.

"Adrian Peterson didn't even see the hit on his knee. He was running and he got blind sided by Al W... Al...... Al Jackson" (it was actually Packers CB Al Harris)

"Image is very imporant in the NFL. You have marketing dollars going into the NFL which TRICKELATES right down to the players."
