Banter Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 I didn't see this on the first page and I don't feel like searching. USA Today has 8 pictures from the upcoming live action Speed Racer movie made by the guy and ex-guy who brought us the Matrix trilogy. Check it out: http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2...eed-racer_N.htm Also, a trailer is supposed to be released soon.
Banter Posted December 7, 2007 Author Report Posted December 7, 2007 Here's the trailer: http://movies.aol.com/movie/speed-racer-2008/28066/main
Ginger Snaps Posted December 7, 2007 Report Posted December 7, 2007 Really gay. It looks like a cartoon, but I guess that's appropriate.
Mik Posted December 7, 2007 Report Posted December 7, 2007 Matthew Fox? The Wachowski Brothers? I'm wondering how I never heard of this until now. I was never a fan of the cartoon, but this looks like a fun summer movie.
reign Posted December 7, 2007 Report Posted December 7, 2007 I'm game..looks a little crazy but who wants to see a serious Speed Racer movie..and Racer X looked badass...
WukenBloodstar Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 Looks like pure shit, nice to see them fuck up another old TV series.
Epic Reine Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 Looks "meh" at best. Maybe they'll release more trailers soon that make it look better but so far I'm not interested.
Jericho2000Mark Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 The race scenes look like a shitty version of Mario Kart.
St. Gabe Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 I thought the race scenes looked like F=Zero...almost identical, really, except for, you know..the wheels.
Darthtiki Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 This racing CGI makes Ghost Rider look realistic.
Turbo Lion Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 There's a shot that looks like a hotel lobby where these chicks that are dressed kind of like stewardesses look like they were green screened. It looks unfinished. My guess is things like that and the final look of the races will probably be a lot better. Looks fun to me. Looks like Speed Racer. I mean, how do you translate Speed Racer? You can't be too serious, but you can't just paste everything into live action copies. So you just push everything to absurdity and hope the emotional core evens it out. I think it might.
Black Lushus Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 I'll never see Emile Hirsch as anything more than a skater kid or a short drug dealing thug.... probably because I haven't seen much of Emile Hirsch...but hey whatever.
RepoMan Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 That looks like shit but I'm a huge Speed Racer mark so they already have my $9.
AntiLeaf33 Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 That makes Spy Kids look like a work of art. Fucking horrible.
Jingus Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Speed Racer was always crap, so it's no surprise that the movie looks like garbage. The old cartoon was badly animated with generic plots and had the absolute fucking dirt worst dubbed dialogue and voice acting that has ever been spoken in the history of the English language. The only positive it had going was that, unlike American cartoons, people actually got killed.
King Kamala Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Speed Racer was always crap, so it's no surprise that the movie looks like garbage. The old cartoon was badly animated with generic plots and had the absolute fucking dirt worst dubbed dialogue and voice acting that has ever been spoken in the history of the English language. The only positive it had going was that, unlike American cartoons, people actually got killed. That's my sentiment. I don't like crappy movies based on TV shows but I hate people who complain about movies based on TV shows that weren't that good to begin (Charlie's Angels, Dukes of Hazzard) with almost as much.
Ced Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 If you look at all the shows that have paid homage to Speed Racer, you realize that it was campy as all hell. Long winded monologues of exposition, the same freakout animation whenever Speed lost control of his car, and a friggin' monkey; how do you not make a movie that doesn't have a cheesy feel to it and in the same spirit of the show?
Golgo 13 Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 I'm gonna go against the grain. It's perfect Speed Racer. Like someone said, how do you translate something like that while keeping the old feel? This is what Speed Racer always was and it's way too silly of a concept to play realistically. This will bomb huge, though.
WukenBloodstar Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 This will bomb huge, though. We can only hope so.
