Guest Report post Posted December 11, 2007 I still like the Patriots. Not so much the Red Sox or Celtics, because people are (or have) going to jump on those bandwagons and run across the country with it.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2007 Most liked: * Weir's President's Cup win over Tiger, even if Tiger probably deliberately tanked the last hole. Also, his win at the Frys a month later. * The Redskins' tribute to Sean Taylor, playing a down with ten guys on defence. * I don't remember the date, but it was a Tuesday in either May or June when the Blue Jays overcame a five-run deficit in the bottom of the ninth against Tampa. * Canada's win in the World Juniors, underlined by the win over the States in the semis. * The Masters tournament, as always. Hated: * Tom Brady * Bill Bellichek * Rory Sabbatini * The Michael Vick saga. * The lack of class from Buffalo Sabres fans as a whole during the series with the Sens. The bloodlust over Dany Heatley (as if all of a sudden we had dozens of humintarians in blue and gold. I doubt many of them even know the name of the passenger in Heatley's car.) along with two radio hosts likening Sens fans to Paul Bernardo, was absolutely disgraceful. * April 7, 2007, for reasons Treble said. What I had labelled as "The greatest week of my life" did not quite pan out. It was to feature Wrestlemania, the Masters, a 30-hour famine, my attending the Blue Jays home opener, and an annual golf tournament I play in. Instead, the Habs were knocked from the playoffs, the golf tourney was cancelled due to snow, the 30-hour famine people never got back to me, and my tax return came in, 2000 in the red. I did end a Marvin-level dry spell, but the bulk of my 'great week' reasons are sport-related, so I think I can get away with this anecdote.
MFer 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2007 Like: A-Rod having a great regular season, Yankees losing the East and the 1st-round of the playoffs LeBron and the Cavs getting ran in the Finals (sour grapes I know, but still) The trade the Tigers just made with the Marlins Pats (particularly Brady/Moss) on the verge of going undefeated and setting several records Hate: Wings/Pistons folding in the playoffs, Tigers/Lions folding in the 2nd-half of their respective seasons UM losing to App St. and watching them in person lose to Ohio St. once again Overblown media coverage of many stories
Guest RyechnaiaSobaka Report post Posted December 11, 2007 I'm only going to pick one, because the list could go on forever otherwise. Most Hated: University of Southern California football. The attempts all season long to get USC back into the National Championship picture, despite the fact that they had no business being there. This includes people like Jimmy Johnson and Brian Baldinger saying that they should be in the championship game because "they're playing the best football of anybody right now." Missouri, Kansas, and Hawaii are all better teams, and they're ranked below USC in the AP top 25 for no reason but that people blow USC. I'm surprised they didn't try to sneak 3-9 Notre Dame into the top 25 too. Seriously guys, give it a rest. Most Liked: The Colorado Rockies and Cleveland Browns. (tie) It was awesome to see the Rockies make it into the playoffs. But then they just kept going, and they made it to the World Series. It was really exciting as a fan, and even though they got beat by the Red Sox in four games, I didn't really mind. It was just a really good story to have a team come out of the NL West, which has been a toilet for years, and win the pennant. But I've been a Browns fan, not for any geographical season, for several years now and it's really great to see them winning games. I don't like Romeo Crennel much, and I don't credit him for any of the success of this team, but Derek Anderson is a great story. I hope they sign him to a long term contract and trade Brady Quinn. I've really enjoyed watching them do their thing this year. I hope it continues.

Jimmy Johnson and Brian Baldinger dont make up all of the college football media, and besides after the Stanford loss USC was basically out of the national title picture even if they had beat Oregon. They dropped to like number 11 or so. I really see r hear didnt much USC "blowing" besides from the goofs at ESPN and on local radio here in Southern California. Nightwing 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 Loved - The Wings making it deep into the playoffs. Even if they lost, they went against three power teams and were within a few minutes of locking up that last series. It gave me faith in the team being a serious contender this year. - The Tiger trade. After a disappointing season (Missing the Wild Card and falling apart in the end), seeing the Tigers go out and get some blockbuster pieces for their team was fucking awesome. I haven't been really interested in the Tigers since the REALLY early 90's when I was really young (the last two seasons notwithstanding), but I'm starting to warm up to baseball in Detroit again. - Peyton Manning winning the Big One. God, was it irritating to listen to people talk about how Peyton couldn't get the big game, how he might take Dan Marino's spot as the best QB to not win a Super Bowl, blah blah blah... In all honesty, the Colts really deserved that win, and it was glad to see them finally get it. - The Central Division Revival in the NHL. St. Louis, Columbus, and Chicago finally becoming threatening after spending so much time at the bottom, while Nashville managed to not suck after selling just about everything they had off. It's nice to have a truly competitive division. - The start of the "Ducks Dynasty". Sorry Anaheim fans, nothing personal, but I just loved watching this if only because of Star Ocean. Hated: - Michael Vick, as detailed in a thread on this board way back. - The Sens folding in the Finals. Seriously, I was rooting hard for 'em, but it was sad seeing them go down like they did. - Seeing Montreal eliminated from the playoffs. And I couldn't even watch the game where I was. Man, was I doubly pissed for that one. - The irritation in ESPN becoming the Patriots Sports Network. I don't mind the Pats too much (For me, I just want them to finish out if only to shut the damned '72 Dolphins up.), but all the ridiculous coverage is frustrating. THIS JUST IN: SOMEONE ON THE JETS CRITICIZED TOM BRADY'S CEREAL CHOICE. LET'S DEDICATE AN ENTIRE HALF HOUR SEGMENT TO IT ON SPORTSCENTER! I'm all for the streak. Just don't shove it down my fucking throat every time I happen to pass your channel. I'd rather watch trickshot bowling than more special Pats coverage right now. - The Pistons acting like the Buffalo Sabres of the NBA. A great team that just lacks any effort during the playoffs. I watched the Sabres during the playoffs, and they played so lazily it's a miracle they got as far as they did. The same thing happened to the Pistons. Just awful. Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 Likes The Pack is Back. Two years after being one of the worst teams in football, they are now one of the best and looking at their first bye in the playoffs since they last visited the Super Bowl. Peyton Manning wins the Super Bowl. He has been the best QB in football over the last 8 years (until this season). It finally shuts up the media from saying that his career is tainted because he never won a championship. Toronto Raptors win the Atlantic Division Title and finally return to the playoffs. Ottawa Senators finally make the Stanley Cup Finals after years of futility. Dislike Senators losing said Finals. Chris Benoit murders wife and kid. This left such a bad taste in my mouth I haven't watched a wrestling show since. Yankees re-sign A-Rod and avoid making blunder of the century. The Michael Vick saga. The Barry Bonds saga. CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 Absolutely everything Ramsus said. I can't believe I didn't say Manning initially. Can I add Cal Ripken's Holiday Inn commercials to my likes? His critisim was well earned. Actually, Denver had the #5 defense in the NFL according to Football Outsiders' DVOA ratings from the 2004-2005 season, when Manning put up 49 points on them in the playoffs. Better than New England that year, in fact. But I see your point.

alfdogg 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 Liked: Colts/Bears Superbowl, Peyton getting his ring and beating the Pats along the way. Spurs winning another title and sweeping the NBA RATINGS SAVIOR, LeBron James. Fuck the haters, this is a great team. Dirk Nowitzki winning the MVP award. Hated: The suspensions in the Spurs/Suns series, and the subsequent whining about the Suns being "two suspensions away from a championship." The Golden State Warriors' playoff run and traveling P.R. campaign for Stephen Jackson. Every win they compile, there seems to be a new "lol, those dumb hicks in Indiana had this guy all wrong!" article on the net. The Red Sox coming back and beating the Indians. Not because I hate the Sox, but because I thought a Indians/Rockies WS would have been neat. Plus, I was pulling for Kenny Lofton to get a ring.
Guest Report post Posted December 12, 2007 Liked: No more Grady Little. The Lakers not trading Andrew Bynum, and on that note, the development of both he and Jordan Farmar. USC winning the Pac 10 again, and their run to the Sweet 16 where they showed that the program had taken GIANT steps since the arrival of Tim Floyd. David Garrard. Seriously. Scott Neidermayer holding the Ducks up to the point where they'll probably lose a good young player, and an experienced defenseman like Beauchemin. And they signed Todd Bertuzzi. Harharhar. The Clippers going back to normal and missing the playoffs again. Hated: Michael Vick. Fuck you, you sick piece of shit. The Dodgers trying to trade Matt Kemp, which still may or may not happen. Garnett going to Boston. Ducks winning that silver thing. I'll never say Ducks and that other thing in the same sentence. Along that note, pretty much the entire 06-07 NHL Season. The Spurs. Just go away. Kobe Bryant for a few days, then not hating him, and now I still don't know. That about covers it.

Disliked: -The Stanley Cup going to a mediocre market for the third time in a row. -The ridiculous contracts given to Dustin Penner and Thomas Vanek. -Spygate. -The Bills losing Paul Posluszny early in the year. -The Bonds and Vick sagas. -The ending to the Bills-Cowboys Monday Night game. On the subject of games, some of my favorites were the Rockies-Padres tiebreaker, the Leafs-Habs game on the last day of the year, Pats-Colts in the AFC Championship. There are more I'm sure but those are the ones that jump out.
