Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2008 I hate to ask something like this, but I can't find an efficient list. Can somebody summarize what the Wii version isn't getting and what the general consensus towards picking it up is?
Grungy Punk 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2008 I'll be playing this game this week. I created Jason and Freddy in the last one. Is the Jason mask in this one?
Thoth 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2008 I hate to ask something like this, but I can't find an efficient list. Can somebody summarize what the Wii version isn't getting and what the general consensus towards picking it up is? No Create-A-Finisher, no run button. Doesn't say, but I'm almost sure that there's no Highlight Reel, due to memory limitations (I could be wrong) However, the Wii version DOES have online play. Exclusive features: Finishers are done with motion-controlled minigames (For Pedigree, the finisher is the kick, then you lift Wiimote to raise one arm, lift nunchuk to raise the other, then raise both to jump) Interactive Entrances Other than obvious things like control differences, everything else is the same (Same single player mode, same career mode)

El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2008 Are you still forced to put one track per playlist in order to use custom themes for the 360? Yup. It plays the first track in the playlist. I don't see how they can botch a feature that's built-in to the console, but this is twice. Reading the reviews, and I may just wait until the price drops. It's sounding like a barely souped-up '08. Angle-plex 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2008 It plays better than 08, but I haven't played 09 since I got it saturday night, and have no real urge to, if that says anything.
Broward83 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2008 I've been loving it..now I mean, since the news about the patch came out..I might wait on doing a lot of CaW work but I'll still take at least one or two of my guys through the season mode. I've done all of the RtWM save for Rey / Batista...Jericho's was my fave while Cena's was just blah.

Scroby 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2008 Who is behind that? That's either a trailer or an edited video cap straight from the PS3. IGN had both of those as trailers on their website.

I agree about the music, that doesn't make much sense....but it is Yukes and their freaking lazy. Though honestly, I think 09 is really damn good and it's so much better than 08. I played 08 for maybe 2 hours and after that I ended up taking it back the same day. I really didn't even finish my CAS that's how much I didn't like it. But I played 09 for about 5 hours straight last night. It's a vast improvement over 08.
Molotov The Bear 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2008 This game plays alot better than '08. I'm loving it so far. The outside the ring camera angles are a little annoying, but not bad enough to ruin the fun. My only complaints so far are the camera angles and that Normal mode is far too easy. Also, the reversal system still sucks ass, but I've always hated the "hit R2/L2 to reverse things" bull because it almost never seems to work. So, that's just something I've gotta deal with. I thought I was playing easy for the first couple hours because of the ease I had beating people, but sure enough nope, it's normal. Think I'll up the difficulty later tonight and see how hard is. C-A-F is pretty cool. Being able to create and use (well almost) two of the finishers from my efed character is fucking cool. The RTWM mode is pretty fun too. Punk's story is good and it was fun seeing things play out like they would on tv ( Dreamer/Burke ending a DQ, but the game keeps going even after the match ended for awhile, Burke attacking Punk after Punk's stripped and you fighting Burke even though it's not an actual match ) It's like playing the old school Smackdown games. I missed those small touches. Also, Jericho's entrance theme is badass. He only used it like once on tv, right after he turned heel and dropped the Y2J, but I've wanted him to use it again forever. Sadly no DLC for me as I've got my PS2, but I can make do with the goodness I do have for now.

It does have Create-a-Wrestler, right?

Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2008 Okay, I had just found that on 1Up after wading through 1up's awful coverage. Is there anything from the Wii CAW that's gettting gimped besides custom music? Thanks again.

But I played 09 for about 5 hours straight last night. It's a vast improvement over 08. Yea, as said it feels a lot better then 08, and more then just 'barely souped up'. There's a lot of little details they focused on too, that people don't' really take the time to notice/mention. For instance, the ref actually talking back to you when you argue with him, and evidently asking does the opponent give up, when you have them in a submission. There's a lot, of new animations. They say this every year, but then it always feels like they added a few new moves, and took a bunch out, but that seems completely different this year. Much of the animations have changed, for the better, from the simple stuff like the way you drag someone, the over the rope animation, the HIAC moves, including the fall through the cage. (And I remember seeing an animation where the opponent went off the cage through the table in previews, but I haven't been able to do it yet). Then of course the new moves for the new superstars, love Kofi's moveset...his leg drop, and his corner attack. Not to mention the change for older superstars, like Orton, who's gotten a complete overhaul....and I've seen nothing but new taunts pretty much. Festus actually does his little thing at the beginning of the match! I'm definitely loving what I've seen so far. But one thing I have to ask, are there people who use those modded/rapid fire controllers, or are some people just insanely good at reversing online? Because that shit is ridiculous. In the few matches I've played, I've barely been able to hit anything. Now I consider myself someone who's good at the game, and playing against the computer, or with friends, I'm that way where I can reverse majority of moves, but there's no way online, it lags so the timings completely different and I'm confused to all hell as far as reversing goes. And yet my opponents always seems to know whether I'm going to attack, or grapple. Pisses me off. But that's just my rant for the moment, going back to start on Jericho's RTWM. edit- One more question, at the intro screen, do the same few themes play for everyone else too? It seems to cycle through Punk, Jericho, Taker, Cena, HHH, etc. but it never plays Kofi's, Londrick's, Jesse/Festus', etc, which kind of sucks.
fazzle 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2008 Has anyone else tried to do a match online yet? I did one earlier today, and it was HORRIBLE. The absolute worst lag I've ever seen in an online game.
Scroby 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2008 Fazzle- I haven't done an online game yet. I'm kinda worried about trying it because people seem to be taking advantage of the create a finisher mode and making finishers that apparently kill you right away. So as soon as they get that up, they get their finisher and just rape you with it. Exslade: Reversing as always been about timing. You pretty much have to hit RT/LT as soon as the person throws a punch or a grapple to reverse out of it. It's not a bad system but the timing has to be pretty spot on to get a reversal off and yes, it's the same theme music over and over again. Which sucks because there's any entire list the game could randomly circle though.

But like Fazzle pointed out there's lag, and even though I hit it at what would be the correct time offline, it doesn't register, and I just can't seem to get the timing down. But when you're not online, you have to reverse just as it's about to hit you, so maybe I'm doing it too late, and need to hit as soon as they throw the punch instead like you said. And yea, I really wish like Madden and other sports games, there was a menu where you could select which songs play. And that every theme was available. I mean, who doesn't want to hear Murdoch's theme every time they turn the game on?
DangerousDamon 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2008 The lack of struggle submissions is incredibly irritating. CBright7831 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2008 Damn, 90% of the time they come up with better storylines for these games than they do for the TV shows. "Who Will Save the Savior......TERMINATE JERICHO!" seems badass! Wasn't there a storyline for DOR (I think) where the World Heavyweight Championship was stolen? I always thought that was an interesting storyline and I agree that the storylines are better in the videogames than they are on tv.

Also, I hope that there's a patch that fixes the fact that you can't throw people into the corner or climb the turnbuckle in Elimination Chamber matches. So how do the submissions work? Can anyone actually submit anymore? (seems like a stupid question, but given there were only about eight moves that could get a submission in 08, I wouldn't be surprised). DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2008 I've had no problem making people submit to the Walls of Jericho (you still pull the stick to wrench the hold, but others have the lock-pick deal from 08 to break the holds). Actually, I couldn't get Cena to submit - I thought maybe he has the "Resiliency" ability, but it turns out I just plain wasn't scripted to win the match. DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2008 Did anyone notice the advert on the instructions for Legends of WrestleMania - "import characters from SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 to create dream match-ups"? Interesting. It also claims there is a trailer for the game (which I'm sure I've already watched online months ago) on SvR 09 but hell if I know where it is. http://www.cheatcc.com/xbox360/wwesmackdow...heatscodes.html is a pretty good unlockable resource. GameFAQs didn't list how to unlock the Locker Room brawl so this was handy. I also see that the reason I got nothing for beating Finlay faster than Santino was because I used a password for the Hornswoggle manager unlock already. Yes, people can submit, but only if you have the submission ability. Unless the submission is your finisher, then anyone can make people tap out with that. I personally don't mind it, as the struggle submissions usually only last about a second or 2 anyways before the lock is picked, or you have to let go. Plus I prefer the ground attacks, as they're quicker.

I hope they let us do the vice versa as well with being able to import Legends into SvR.

Does this move even cause a submission? Not that I've played the game, but kayfabe the move was deemed a chokehold and would likely be like the open faced choke in past games that you can't win standard matches by. Just a thought.
