Mik Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Which do you prefer and why? I strongly prefer Facebook. Probably because I've been in college for 8 years and it's a bit more college oriented. I also grew really tired of MySpace with all of the fake porn friend requests/messages, although I do get amused when guys post messages on those accounts saying stuff like, "What up bootiful, how I know you again?" I also just find MySpace creepy in general. I know some people hated the News Feed but I've loved it from the start because now I don't have to waste time checking friend's profiles randomly if I want to see what's going on or if they have pictures up - I just read my news feed and work from there. I also don't mind the applications very much but I keep my page pretty clean. Easy nod to Facebook for me.
DrVenkman PhD Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Applications looked to be the Myspaceification of facebook but now you can block those requests forever. It doesn't change the fact your FRIEND'S have will have more applications than a McDonald's in the summertime, but it's a start. When I was keeping in touch with people via myspace it became very annoying to go to a page and be bombarded with some rap song you didn't play while trying to highlight every word you're trying to read because the dumbass put red letters on a red background.
Dandy Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 I have both and both of them get on my nerves now. i used to keep up with old friends on each of them, but it's a chore for me to even check them now.
CanadianChris Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 I got Facebook at my sister's urging, but I haven't looked at it in months. I'm such an introvert that it's too much like work to check on everyone.
MFer Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 I've got both but I prefer Facebook mainly for the reasons Mik stated. It's a lot easier to use. Not really a fan of the applications though.
Damaramu Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 I guess I like myspace more because I started on myspace and got facebook way later. Plus the applications drive me crazy.
Gary Floyd Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 I don't have either, though the thought of having a Myspace account has crossed my mind.
The Niggardly King Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 I got Facebook at my sister's urging, but I haven't looked at it in months. I'm such an introvert that it's too much like work to check on everyone. I was like this with the Space and I ended up deleting it
Big Ol' Smitty Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Facebook mainly for elitist reasons.
Papacita Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Sites like these are lost on my anti-social ass, but of the two I prefer Facebook due to the fact that I hate those damn Myspace layouts with the music and stuff. That shit just pisses me off.
Smartly Pretty Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Facebook. It's cleaner and tidier, even with all the applications.
Damaramu Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Facebook. It's cleaner and tidier, even with all the applications. Really? You think so? It always feels messy to me. I never feel like I can get anything done on there.
Guest Vitamin X Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 I have both and both of them get on my nerves now. i used to keep up with old friends on each of them, but it's a chore for me to even check them now.
Mik Posted March 29, 2008 Author Report Posted March 29, 2008 One new thing about facebook that I can't stand is the "People You May Know" bar. A lot of the people who are showing up in that bar for me are people I specifically DON'T want to be friends with. Facebook needs to do something about this.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 That bar started to pop up. I don't want that bar either. I want to be friends with people i know. Most people's MySpace profiles suck because they take like a gig of RAM to load with all the crap that's on them.
Mecha Mummy Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Facebook's applications are annoying sometimes, but at least I'm not getting friend requests from terrible music artists and Random Uninteresting "Hot" Girls. If just between the two, Facebook wins by a mile for me.
Dandy Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 If you set your Myspace account to private, you don't get nearly as many random friend requests or spam. I avergae one a month or less.
Youth N Asia Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 Myspace. I have a Facebook. but never care to use it
luke-o Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 Facebook. Myspace has been lame for about 4 years now. In fact, someone said that they got "myspaced" the other day by someone and my responce was, "do people still use that"? The ironic thing is, that I set up a myspace account for my film and haven't checked it since I started it. Thus making it rather pointless.
Bruiser Chong Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 I started out on MySpace because Facebook wasn't available for my college at the time. They both have their perks and pratfalls. I find my allegiance to either one depends on how many messages, comments, and the like I'm getting at the time. MySpace is more prone to obnoxious layouts, but things aren't much prettier on the Facebook side thanks to applications. You can avoid them on your page, just like you can dodge the stupid layouts on your MySpace page. But that doesn't stop others from adding every silly application sent their way.
Copper Feel Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 Myspace by a West Country mile. Facebook is confusing and useless.
Cheech Tremendous Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 I have both as well, but tend to prefer Myspace for my everyday needs. I graduated college about 5 years ago and so most of the people in my age group missed out on the Facebook craze. It's the easiest and tidiest to use, but the applications nonsense is tiresome. Myspace is a disaster as far as interface is concerned, but the majority of people I know have accounts. So if I need to get a hold of someone that's usually the best resource. Overall, at 26 I find little need for either of them in my life.
NYU Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 MySpace. When I was a freshman in college, I was a huge fan of Facebook. But the applications they have since added are such a mess and absolutely clutter profiles. MySpace, while also taking a major step back in my opinion by allowing everybody to make their profiles private, remains a site I tend to check every day or so. Facebook, maybe once every couple of weeks.
Copper Feel Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 There's another reason that I prefer Myspace: the ability to browse the profiles of random people, and the hilarity that does ensue. Bebo is pretty awful as well, unless you're a chav.
Positively Kanyon Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Definitely Facebook... For someone like me that has OCD it's neatness (I keep it application free) is an absolute godsend! MySpace shits me off to no end. There's no standardisation and everything is just all over the place. And the constant spam just pisses me off to no end! In saying that... I have just actually de-activated my Facebook account. It's too addictive! Going to take a break from it for a while.
Nighthawk Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 Myspace gets me lots of gay sex. And, not that you'd know what constitutes it or care, but this is good gay sex.
Exslade ZX Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 Along the same lines, it depends on whether I'm trying to get laid by a high school girl, or a girl in college. But overall, I'd have to say myspace. Facebook, I only really use for event updates, finding out what's going on around town, or for pictures. (Since that system is far superior to myspace obviously) But I receive more messages and the like on myspace, and plus, it's quite amusing to read some people's bulletins/surveys.
