"Best Summer Movie So Far"

For real???

I can live with the MTV Music Awards...it makes sense for them to have a music awards show...but they really need to just discontinue this movie award nonsense.

I'm sure Javier Bardem is nervously awaiting the results of his epic "best villian" clash with Topher Grace.

I can't wait to see Alein and Predator win best fight so we can see two retards in suits hash it out on stage.

I almost want to see Denzel win the award just so we can see his taped acceptance speech...it would probably be the best acting he's ever done in his whole career.

I'm just glad they didn't make the same mistake as the Academy and overlook National Treasure 2.

Yeah, I was worried for a minute there. But MTV pulled through

I like how a couple of the movies that they've nominated for "Best Summer Movie So Far" haven't even been released yet. Indiana Jones, Sex in the City, Speed Racer (opens this week, but still). What's the deal with the best kiss category? Wheres the standard-issue girl-on-girl kiss that used to get nominated every year to get the prepubescent teens to tune in? I like how most of the cast of Superbad was nominated for Breakthrough performance. Best Comedic Performance - AMY ADAMS?!?!?!?! I sat through Enchanted with my girlfriend and there was nothing remotely funny about her performance. I could see her nominated for best song and dance routine easily, but not best comedic performance. Why did I just type a paragraph ranting about the Movie Awards? I DON'T KNOWii!!

Was Depp really the villain in Sweeney Todd? I mean he's more of the actual protagonist of the movie with Alan Rickman as the heel judge. The audience is firmly with Sweeney for most of the film and wanted him to slice and dice.

I'm shocked that the Cloverfield Monster wasn't up for Best Villain. MTV is the drizzling shits of award shows now, they used to be the fun ones, but it's just bad.

And Walk Hard was the funniest movie of the year

I didn't like Walk Hard at all. I chuckled a couple of times...but overall I was pretty bored.

Really?

*dad swinging his machete overhead ready to kill Dewey*

Dad: "I've been waiting for this a long time!"

Dewey: "You have???"

I loved that movie

But to each their own, I'm not going to hate

BEST FEMALE PERFORMANCE

-- Keira Knightley -- Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (Walt Disney Pictures)

-- Amy Adams -- Enchanted (Walt Disney Pictures)

-- Jessica Biel -- I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (Universal Pictures)

-- Angelina Jolie -- Beowulf (Warner Bros. Pictures/ Paramount Pictures)

I will also throw my Walk Hard love in. Movie was way funnier then it had a right to be.

The Bob Dylan of Dewey Cox is just brilliant.

Time for my break down...usually I'm pretty solid on this.

BEST MOVIE

-- Juno (Fox Searchlight Pictures)

-- Transformers (DreamWorks SKG/Paramount Pictures)

-- Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (Walt Disney Pictures)

-- I Am Legend (Warner Bros. Pictures)

-- Superbad (Sony Pictures)

-- National Treasure: Book of Secrets (Walt Disney Pictures)

Should win: Only three of these I can make a solid argument for (Juno, Superbad and I Am Legend) and frankly in my honest opinion it's really down to Superbad and I Am Legend, but don't get me wrong Juno wasn't too shabby and was very enjoyable but after a few viewings you can see some of the pretentiousness seep out.

What the MTV morons...er...viewers will vote for: Again, to me this is a push between Juno, Superbad, and Pirates but I would give Juno the edge.

BEST MALE PERFORMANCE

-- Will Smith -- I Am Legend (Warner Bros. Pictures)

-- Shia LaBeouf -- Transformers (DreamWorks SKG/Paramount Pictures)

-- Denzel Washington -- American Gangster (Universal Pictures)

-- Matt Damon -- The Bourne Ultimatum (Universal Pictures)

-- Michael Cera -- Juno (Fox Searchlight Pictures)

Should Win: I'd say if this was based upon actual acting, it's a toss up between Will and Denzel, with Will winning based upon the dramatic exercise.

What the MTV morons...er...viewers will vote for: Either Cera (who I felt was completely underused in Juno and should be up for Superbad) or Shia

BEST FEMALE PERFORMANCE

-- Ellen Page -- Juno (Fox Searchlight Pictures)

-- Keira Knightley -- Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (Walt Disney Pictures)

-- Katherine Heigl -- Knocked Up (Universal Pictures)

-- Amy Adams -- Enchanted (Walt Disney Pictures)

-- Jessica Biel -- I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (Universal Pictures)

Should Win: This category is really weak, but I would go with Page or Amy Adams as a darkhorse.

What the MTV morons...er...viewers will vote for: Ellen Page

BEST VILLAIN

-- Johnny Depp -- Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (DreamWorks SKG/ Warner Bros. Pictures)

-- Denzel Washington -- American Gangster (Universal Pictures)

-- Angelina Jolie -- Beowulf (Warner Bros. Pictures/ Paramount Pictures)

-- Topher Grace -- Spider-Man 3 (Sony Pictures)

-- Javier Bardem -- No Country For Old Men (Paramount Vantage/ Miramax Films)

Should Win:Bardem, only because Depp and Denzel's characters were really more seen as anti-heroes. And Angelina and Topher were meh. Plus, the airgun gets major props.

What the MTV morons...er...viewers will vote for:Johnny Depp

BEST COMEDIC PERFORMANCE

-- Johnny Depp -- Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (Walt Disney Pictures)

-- Adam Sandler -- I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (Universal Pictures)

-- Jonah Hill -- Superbad (Sony Pictures)

-- Seth Rogen -- Knocked Up (Universal Pictures)

-- Amy Adams -- Enchanted (Walt Disney Pictures)

Should Win: It's a toss up between Hill & Rogen, both were good.

What the MTV morons...er...viewers will vote for:We may see a tie, between Rogen & Hill

BEST FIGHT

-- Matt Damon vs. Joey Ansah -- The Bourne Ultimatum (Universal Pictures)

-- Tobey Maguire vs. James Franco -- Spider-Man 3 (Sony Pictures)

-- Hayden Christensen vs. Jamie Bell -- Jumper (20th Century Fox)

-- Sean Faris vs. Cam Gigandet -- Never Back Down (Summit Entertainment, LLC)

-- Chris Tucker & Jackie Chan vs. Sun Ming Ming -- Rush Hour 3 (New Line Cinema)

-- Alien vs. Predator- Aliens vs. Predator -- Requiem (20th Century Fox)

Should Win: Bourne

What the MTV morons...er...viewers will vote for: Fuck it...but I'll go Spidey & Goblin v. 2

BEST KISS

-- Shia LaBeouf and Sarah Roemer -- Disturbia (DreamWorks SKG)

-- Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey -- Enchanted (Walt Disney Pictures)

-- Daniel Radcliffe and Katie Leung -- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Warner Bros. Pictures)

-- Ellen Page and Michael Cera -- Juno (Fox Searchlight Pictures)

-- Briana Evigan and Robert Hoffman -- Step Up 2 The Streets (Touchstone Pictures)

Should Win: Who cares, but I'll go Page & Cera

What the MTV morons...er...viewers will vote for: Page & Cera

BREAKTHROUGH PERFORMANCE

-- Zac Efron -- Hairspray (New Line Cinema)

-- Seth Rogen -- Knocked Up (Universal Pictures)

-- Jonah Hill -- Superbad (Sony Pictures)

-- Michael Cera -- Superbad (Sony Pictures)

-- Chris Brown -- This Christmas (Screen Gems)

-- Nikki Blonsky -- Hairspray (New Line Cinema)

-- Megan Fox -- Transformers (DreamWorks SKG/Paramount Pictures)

-- Christopher Mintz-Plasse -- Superbad (Sony Pictures)

Should Win: Rogen, but solid arguments for Hill and Cera

What the MTV morons...er...viewers will vote for:Could be another package deal with Hill, Cera and Mintz-Plasse and Rogen for good measure but Zac Effeminate I mean Efron is a very solid darkhorse

BEST SUMMER MOVIE SO FAR

-- Iron Man (Paramount Pictures/Marvel Entertainment)

-- Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (Paramount Pictures/Lucas Films)

-- Sex and the City: The Movie (New Line Cinema)

-- Speed Racer (Warner Bros. Pictures)

-- The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian (Walt Disney Pictures/Walden Media)

Should Win: First off a great big FUCK YOU to MTV for this asinine category. Second of all, I find it interesting that 2 of the 5 are Paramount films (which makes it a loaded categories for the conglom's tentpoles), why not add the shitstorm called "The Love Guru" and rename the category Best Viacom Distributed Summer Movie of 2008. With all that said, the money is on Iron Man or Indy, more than likely the latter.

What the MTV morons...er...viewers will vote for: Indy or Iron Man

"This was a particularly bad case of somebody being cut in half."

And I guess they at least had the brains to put "Juno" in the best picture category.

So why did I laugh so much?

Truthfully the only ones I had much of a problem with here were Topher Grace, the zillion nominations for Transformers, and the entire concept of the Best Summer Movies category where you can vote for or against something you can't have possibly seen.

On an unrelated note that popped up in my head when I read this:

The dude who sits next to me in Cultural Geography thought I was an idiot for not seeing/wanting to see Silent Hill, and rolled his eyes when I said my new favorite movie is There Will Be Blood, which he said was "too fuckin' boring, bro."

Something tells me that guy votes for these nominees and gets bummed when his picks don't win. Yeah.

IIIII guess that's it.

Reminds me of a guy back in school, bout a decade ago, who insisted that Scream was the greatest movie in history and dismissed Schindler's List as "a bunch of skinny naked people running and dying". Sometimes I just want to use a razor-edged clapboard as a guillotine on people like that.
