Friday The 13th (2009)

Recommended Posts

Way off topic here a bit, but what the fuck.....

So I dealt with a little insomnia last night and was channel flipping and came across this Chiller channel on my DirecTV, never knew I even had it til now. What to note is that is has both the Friday the 13th tv series (which has absolutely nothing to do with Jason or Crystal Lake whatsoever, I don't think one episode has anything that ties into it) and Freddy's Nightmares as well. I never understood the whole Friday the 13th series deal......I guess they were just trying to bait people into seeing what it was about, as it really isn't that bad of a stand-alone show, but I can't see how they would keep viewers hooked without the Jason connection. Funny thing is that the main character on the series is the main male lead in Jason Goes to Hell......can't remember his name but it's the same guy.

As far as Freddy's Nightmares goes, this was just an awesome series......Englund always does one line intros, segways, and conclusions to each of the episodes in true Freddy form (and whoever did the makeup for him on this series.....wow.....best I've seen than any of the movies even, really freaky looking). Some shows would actually have Freddy as a character in the show, including an episode they did that I have on tape somewhere, basically a prequal to Elm Street one, showing how Freddy got burned by the parents, etc. I'd say for every show that Freddy plays a role in the story, there is about two to three more that he doesnt, but regardless most episodes are based in Springwood and are usually normally always centered around bad dreams. The one they had last night starred the main girl in Friday the 13th Part 7 ironically enough.

From what I hear this movie sounds terrible. They are trying to make it more "realistic" by having Jason be some sort of crazy survival nut and running around after people. I'm not a big fan of the movies to begin with, and at this point the "inventive kills of teens having sex" genre has been played out for 15 years.

I love John Carpenter and I think Halloween is a good movie but unfortunately that opened the floodgates for 20+ years of dumb knockoffs that all have the exact same plot and selling points. These days most horror movies are about who died and how and that's it.

Sorry. I have to ask. But, if you're not a fan of the genre then why are you even in this thread?

I liked Jason Goes to Hell. Nice change of pace from the others. You can only take so much of the same movie eight times in a row before you get worn out. My favorite part was where the dude devours Jason's heart. That was hilarious. Also when he kills the woman mid-sex in the tent. That's probably the most brutal kill in the whole series (it's only fully shown in the unrated version, however).

I was wondering what movie that was in because I've probably seen at least half of the ones before that but only one time each and so long ago that I don't really remember much of anything about any of the movies individually. I just remember those two moments you mentioned as being so awesomely bad that they're unforgettable.

If you think this remake sounds bad, wait till that Nightmare on Elm Street remake gets made (hope it doesn't). That will be a big example to not fuck with the classics.

A remake / reboot / re-imagining of F13 was inevitable since its hard to come up with new ideas for the series. Originally, I was against it, but I really enjoyed the Halloween remake so I'll give the new Friday movie a chance. I'm just curious if Jason will be a normal person again or still the Juggernaut Zombie?

Another problem with the Friday movies is that some of them wouldn't even bother the follow the events of the last film, which was fucking annoying so its better off they start off fresh again.

I'm disappointed though that they're not going to make a Freddy Vs. Jason sequel. I wanted to see a rematch.

Part 6 was the last one that I actually liked. Anything after that blows.

Agreed. Plus it had that awesome Alice Cooper song played during the credits.

If they started from the beginning, Jason wouldn't be the killer, his mother would be.

So they're more or less combining parts 1 & 2 together for this one, I think, and just starting from there. Or something.

True. I always forget about that. Better to re-establish the franchise with Jason as the lead since it turned out that way although I hope they showed an "updated" flashback of Mrs. Voorhes getting decapitated.

ah christ, I forgot Bay was working on this one...I didn't see the TCM remakes, were those stupid?

The TCM remake was good. The Beginning sucked ass. Of course, other posters will disagree with me on this.

Whats was the deal with that movie anyway? You could tell none of the actors gave a rip about anything, and were more or less just there to collect a paycheck.

Jason X wasn't meant to be taken seriously. It was all tongue in cheek with Jason just being made into the Terminator.

I heard that they were originally going to have Tommy Jarvis take over for Jason. I would've liked that, actually. I liked that Jason WASN'T a supernatural zombie in the first part of the series and I think it took a turn for the worse when he became one.

I enjoyed Jason as the super zombie. It made him more scary knowing it was hard to stop him due to "the curse." It made sense. Besides, they fucked it all up anyway in Part 3 with Jason no selling his neck getting broken, but gets taken down with an axe to the face, WTF?!!

This F13 remake will probably end up the most satisfying of these remake movies since it needed one, because that series got way out of control and went off the deep end. The Halloween remake wasn't useless or anything, since I did like the character study of Myers for the first half, but once it becomes just a scene for scene remake of the original, then yeah, it gets bad. TCM remake was carried by R. Lee Ermy. He was the best thing about it. The NOES remake will be awful. I can't imagine anyone else as Freddy besides Robert Englund.

Jason's best part was his mastery of the woods. So much so he could just walk, hit all the shortcuts and catch your worn out running ass like it was nothing.

Slow and Steady kills the horny teens.

i don't mind him running in that situation. I'd like to see him go after people while he is walking fast, since that's the way he walks, but that's out of my hands. I'm looking forward to this, and I will be there opening night on my birthday.

I'll be there opening night. I'm just a little miffed that they're rebooting the franchise without bringing closure to the original series. They did what, 11 installments (counting Freddy vs Jason) of the Friday the 13th series, so why not finish it? Eh, oh well. They're about to Reboot Hellraiser and that franchise has been going nowhere since the early 90's.

I still hope they'll make Freddy vs Jason 2 with or without Ash lol. I actually thought the first one was decent, and it'd be cool if they tied up both franchises with a sequel.

When has a series ever been brought to closure before being rebooted? Batman, James Bond, Michael Myers, Godzilla, none of their franchises ended properly before being restarted. The closest one I can think of is the original Star Trek, but considering how long they dragged out the special guest appearances of the old characters into the new franchises I don't think even that one counts. Anyway, how would you bring closure to F13? Kill Jason? He's already looked really dead at the end of four of these damn movies. It would be pretty hard to smear the good name of Friday the 13th and muddle the series continuity more than the old films already did.

The whole point of rebooting a franchise is when it has nowhere to go, and Friday the 13th definitely had no where to go, so thats why its been rebooted. Reboots are also done because the latest installment might have been dissapointing or was a disaster, like Batman & Robin, so the filmakers feel the series needs a fresh start.

The irony here being that Freddy vs Jason was easily one of the best entries in the series, if not the best period. Now if that one had never happened and the franchise was restarting after the triple threat of Jason Takes Manhattan, Jason Goes To Hell, and Jason X, then yeah, it would fit.

The trailer looks pretty weak. Jason running is lame.

But I'll be there opening night because I'm a mark for Jason.
