Mik Posted September 1, 2008 Report Posted September 1, 2008 http://www.tuaw.com/2008/09/01/google-crea...ased-on-webkit/ Possibly as soon as tomorrow. Another one to try out, I guess. I finally gave up on Safari a few months ago and have been running FireFox 3.0, but this might be the winnah. I haven't disliked anything Google has done so far, but it's not hard to imagine this will be the first. Guess we'll find out (as soon as) tomorrow.
Guest Vitamin X Posted September 1, 2008 Report Posted September 1, 2008 Yeah it seems that the Windows one is coming out first, then us Linux and the Mac boys will have to wait a bit longer. I'll give it a shot. The idea behind the browser seems very, very cool.
bobobrazil1984 Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Definitely looking forward to giving this thing a spin. The browser is something that can really be improved. Firefox is such a memory hog with multiple tabs open. IE is just a bloated piece of bloated bloated-ness.
Guest Epic Fail Orange Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 This is great news. Google is in a unique position to replace Internet Explorer (or "the internet" or "big blue e", as Grandma and Joe Sixpack know it) as the default browser on Windows. They've already got deals with some companies to preinstall their stuff on computers, phones and what-have-you. Why not extend that to Chrome? I just wish that Google would do something about Flash besides isolate it away from the browser... which is a good first step, but doesn't change the fact that Flash can be crash-happy and CPU-hogging. They helped out with getting Photoshop to run on Linux better, I hope they contribute to Gnash sometime soon as well.
Guest Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Does not allow me to drag and pull. Back to firefox.
bobobrazil1984 Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 what? Are you referring to being able to drag tabs out into their own window? i can do that in Chrome
The Amazing Rando Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 There's no "go back to homepage" button and no easy way to find bookmarks. Fuck this. Edit: Okay, I fixed those two little problems.
treble Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 You can add the home button in the options. I don't like the stop button where it is, though.
The Electrifyer Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 I'm trying out this browser and I find that this browser is very fast. For some reason, Firefox 3 is slow for me, despite it saying it had improved speeds. IE is pretty fast, but Chrome just beat it up. Is there any way though to get the bookmarks without requiring the entire bookmarks bar? I like how chrome really only has 2 bars, one for the tabs and one for the back, forward, refresh buttons, address bar, etc. Don't want to add a third.
Guest Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 what? Are you referring to being able to drag tabs out into their own window? i can do that in Chrome My mouse doesn't let me scroll using the wheel, so I have to click and hold the wheel while dragging the mouse down so I can scroll down the page. This doesn't let me do that for some reason. I'm too lazy to move the mouse all the way to the down button in the right hand corner.
bobobrazil1984 Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 CTRL B toggles the bookmarks bar on and off for quick access. might not be what you are looking for though
IllustriousOne Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 This probably has the potential to eclipse Firefox as THE browser, I think. But, I sip the Google Kool-Aid, so who knows. Currently giving this a try, right now.
MrRant Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 This motherfucker is fast. Posting on it right now and sweet jesus.
El Psycho Diablo Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 This motherfucker is fast. Posting on it right now and sweet jesus. Same here. It's amazing how fast this is, comparing it to FF3.
Guest Smues Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 I can't watch youtube in it. It says Java is turned off or I need the latest version of flash. Installing it doesn't fix it, so where do I turn java on in this thing?
Maztinho Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 I just loaded it, holy shit is it fast. Re: YouTube. I'm working fine Smues, just clicked on a random video and it worked fine without any loading questions. Edit: I don't know if I like it opening links directly next to the tab I'm linking from. Thrice I've clicked on a link and looked to the far right for the ensuing greatness only to have to scan backwards for the new thing I want to look at. I'm sure it'll just take some acclamation.
Spaceman Spiff Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 I miss the "paste quote" add-on that Firefox has. Also, clicking on the little "go to 1st new post" link here takes me to the bottom of the page of the thread. I wish you could move the Bookmarks folder. I don't like it over on the right.
jimmy no nose Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 Also, clicking on the little "go to 1st new post" link here takes me to the bottom of the page of the thread. That's my biggest issue as it's a problem I've been having on different message boards all night. Not that there's any reason for me to use it, but I'm a fan of the "incognito" mode so you can look at porn without your wife/kids knowing or your wife/kids can look at porn without you knowing. That feature is just for porn, right?
Golgo 13 Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 I like it a lot, but I can't live without my extensions.

Be wary of: Websites that collect or share information about you Internet service providers or employers that track the pages you visit Malicious software that tracks your keystrokes in exchange for free smileys Surveillance by secret agents People standing behind you PEOPLE STANDING BEHIND YOU! Yeah, there has to be no other reason for incognito mode than Teh Pron.
The Electrifyer Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 I wish they could finally make a browser where you didn't have to be wary of the people standing behind you.
At Home Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 They do. Just buy an iPhone and keep a towel draped over your head and hands while you use it.
Exslade ZX Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 Also, clicking on the little "go to 1st new post" link here takes me to the bottom of the page of the thread. Maztinho Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 If you go up to the little paper icon next to the wrench there's the option of going incognito new tab. It doesn't show up on your history. You can also bring it up with Ctrl-shift-n. It has a spy looking dude in the corner when you go incognito.
Banter Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 It sure is fast but I don't care for the placement of the bookmarks folder.
Jaxxson Mayhem Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 Just installed it and it flies.
Red Baron Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 Well I see that if you are to use hotmail, they won't recognize it.
Guest Epic Fail Orange Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 Ridiculously fast, but I'm not a big fan of Chrome's minimalistic interface and lack of adblock, so I'll stick to Firefox for now. If Firefox switched to WebKit (what Chrome and Safari use to render webpages), we'd have a near-perfect browser...
