Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2008 I'll still see this but goddamn did Toronto Star shit all over this movie. Called it a bad Apatow rip-off and said that Rogan and Banks did nothing for their careers. It's only at 63% on Rotten Tomatoes at the moment.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2008 Being that this movie opened yesterday I assumed someone here had seen it already and we'd have a TSM opinion
Jebus 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2008 I saw it 2 weeks ago (was at the Hollywood premiere)...It's okay. When it comes to Smith movies, I still prefer Chasing Amy, Dogma & Clerks.
MDH257 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2008 Did anyone stay through the credits?
Twisted Intestine 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2008 I saw it yesterday, probably my least favourite Smith movie. There are tons of funny lines of course, but the story didn't do anything for me... Seemed too fast and like it was just put in there to avoid the movie having no point. Even the clerks 2 story made me feel more than this one. Still a decent comedy though.
In Credible 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2008 I liked it, it made me laugh a lot. That's what I look for in a comedy.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2008 I went and saw this over the weekend. It's a fun movie with a quite a few laughs, but I'd still put it a notch below Kevin Smith's other movies, and way behind Apatow's stuff. Smith tried to go for the comedy with a heart movie, but the characters weren't quite deep enough to connect on that level. The porno scenes were really funny though. Loved Jay as Lester the Molester. It was only about five minutes after the movie ended before I started asking Mrs. Tremendous for a "Dutch Rudder."
haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 I saw this with a friend this afternoon. I thought it was funny as hell, and Jason Mewes OWNED this film. Lester the Molester was great. I had to wipe tears from my glasses after the end of the film from laughing so hard.
migoli 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 I have to say I was let down by this movie. But when I think about it I think it was because I had pumped it up so damn much it had unrealistic expectations in my mind. I really like Rogen and have love for Mewes forever. I mean the early part with the black dude was great and the whole Dutch ruddet stuff was good but after that it seemed like a movie filled with decent at best jokes. Now if Role Models lets me down I WILL cry.
RedJed 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 I thought it was hilarious, yet not anything near the level of the Askewniverse films, in terms of wanting to check out the flick again anytime soon. Stuff like Clerks, Mallrats, Dogma.....they are those kind of films you could watch multiple times and they still hold up, and I don't see this being the same thing as those. But I still laughed a ton, don't get me wrong. Fuck me running, Elizabeth Banks looked hotter than the Georgia asphalt though, great job by her. It was pretty funny to see Traci Lords back as a pornstar also, and Katie Morgan.....well.......she fit the part well, of course. What was kind of weird was that my friend and I were in a 3/4 filled theater, both cracking up like crazy, and the rest of the crowd, for the most part, was basically silent. I don't know if the language was too over the top for them or what, that would be my guess though. Seemed like more of an older crowd (30 plus) versus college types, etc. Needless to say, I hate going to a flick where you feel like you have to hold back from laughing in fear of dirty looks from others. Talk about awkward. We actually had someone close to us tell us to "shhhhhh" because we were apparently laughing too much? Fuck that shit.
cd213 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 I enjoyed this movie. I didn't think it was the best Smith movie, and I also don't think it was the best comedy of the year (TROPIC THUNDER and PINEAPPLE EXPRESS are 1 and 2 for me). My favorite parts were Tom Savini's cameo and the fact that this took place in Monroeville. Being a HUGE Romero fan since I was 5, I totally marked for that stuff. Very funny and enjoyable film. Twisted Intestine 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2008 At least we got to see Jay's penis. He should have been tucking as a throwback to Clerks 2 in all the full frontal nudity shots. I was actually surprised at the lack of cameos. I wasn't expecting a ton, but I thought I'd see an Affleck or Lee somewhere.

I was actually surprised at the lack of cameos. I wasn't expecting a ton, but I thought I'd see an Affleck or Lee somewhere. It seemed like Smith wanted to distance himself from the Jay and Bob gimmicks, and one of them being the cameos by his friends. He moved the movie from NJ to Pennsylvania for this as well. JohnnyBlaze 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2008 very funny...thought banks was hot (maybe we will see more of that in this) rogen seemed to perfectly fit this as well...its not chasing amy...but i mean nothing kevin smith ever does is going to reach that level again as far as that type of film.. The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2008 I liked the movie enough...it just felt like something was missing. Although I enjoy listening to Rogen deliver dialogue. It always makes me laugh.
Mik 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2008 Justin Long was fuckin' great in this. I really enjoyed the movie but I'm not much of a Kevin Smith fan so I probably saw it a bit differently then you guys.
luke-o 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2008 Saw the film on Friday, thought it was great. Not Smith's best film (Amy) but was a really, really good film. I laughed a hell of a lot during some of the dialogue (I've always laughed more at dialouge than set peices) and it was great seeing Jeff Anderson back up on the big screen. Thought the chemistry between Rogen and Banks was awesome and the support cast was also really funny. If I had one complaint, the film felt kind of rushed during the "idea through to casting through to getting ready to make the film" montage. But maybe it won't feel that way after I watch it again. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2008 Saw it again yesterday, didn't realise that Smith cut out the final scene that shows Zach and Miri starting their own do-it-yourself porn business, featuring testimonials from Justin Long's character and the Superman guy. Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2008 I saw it yesterday and it was a little better than I expected. Honestly, I thought from the previews that it was going to be pretty stupid. It was all right, nothing I'd go out of my way to see again though. I think my favorite part was when they went to their high school reunion.
GeneMean 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2008 They show that part after the credits now Bob. I almost missed it.
MDH257 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 Which is why I asked if anyone stayed during the credits. Seriously, about half the credits role before they go to the scene. I'm guessing most people miss it.
Twisted Intestine 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 In my theatre 90% of the people stayed seated during the credits. I knew something was coming because of that (usually everyone gets up right away), but I left anyways.
AntiLeaf33 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 I was going to stay after the credits, but I had to piss pretty bad so I said the hell with it. I'll catch the last scene when I pick up the DVD or BluRay.
luke-o 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2008 I missed it, my girlfriend wanted to leave and I didn't know there was anything after the credits. I'll check it out when I see it again.
