Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted December 5, 2003 I lived on my own for a year and a half and decided to come back home. I was breaking my back to make ends meet while going to school. It's cheaper now and I can use the money that's not paying bills for investments so that when I do finally move out I have a somewhat mature portfolio for a rainy day. 1234-5678 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 Turned 22 in October and I still live at home. I'd be gone by now, but I had problems saving money, then I was supposed to move in with my ex, but that didn't work out. Once I find steady work, I am definitely outta here though, probably get a house with a couple of my boys.
TSA09 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 I'm about to turn 22 and I've been out on my own for 2 years now. Sure I do go eat their food alot, but you couldn't pay me to move back.
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted December 5, 2003 I should add that my parents really have no rules for me. Other than not disappearing for days at a time. So I really don't feel a great need to move out till later on.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 Moved out when I was 22 and graduated college. Until then I was a commuter student, so darn right I lived with mommy rent-free for those four years. Between school and at least one full-time job I was putting in around 70-80 hours per week, so the only time I was home was to sleep or jerk off...

RESULTS OF THE SMARTMARKS TRANSLATOR 5000: I would have moved out a few months back, but I blew my life-savings on cocaine and Zimbabwean prostitutes. I almost moved in with my girlfriend, but I couldn't stand to be kept up all night by the sounds of her violent gangbangs. haVoc 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 I have my own apartment but it's upstairs from my mother and grandmother. And, no. It's not an attic you wise ass bastards! My uncle owns the house so they get rent free, my grandmother is his mother and he took the house over when my grandfather died. I lived out on my own for a few years with friends and other roommates and in late 2000 I was done with the everyday party scene and took this apartment when it opened. However, my uncle is selling the house soon so my grandmother is going to go live with him and his family. My mother is finally going to move in with her long time boyfriend and I'm shit out of luck at the moment because I need to find a new place. But, I have until the end of January. Ripper 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 Bruiser is absolutlely right about if your parents are still footing the bill, you haven't really moved out. You just live in their other place. I moved out when I was 17 and have been roomate free since I was 21.

the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 I'm 22, still live at home. Just got a job, but I still have no desire to move out in the near future. Ideally, I would live at home for 2, 3 at most years and save up some money, so when I decide to move out I can live somewhere decent. I see no point, in leaving home and moving into a dump just so you can say you don't live at home. BTW, I see 25 as the cut off date w/o extreme circumstances. Once you hit 25 you should be out of the house or at least see yourself headed that way in the near future. And the best motivation in the world is to have the lazy uncle still living at your grandmother's house past the big 4-0.
Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 The whole key to having a roommate is making sure it's someone you know. This doesn't apply to college dorms, obviously, but if you're out in "the real world," having a roommate is actually pretty cool. I wouldn't suggest getting a place with your best friend, but getting a place with a buddy is fine. My roommate is someone I used to work and hang out with whom I hadn't seen in about four years. He showed me this place he wanted to move into, and I was sold.

He showed me this place he wanted to move into, and I was sold. And on the flip-side of this debate: My better half spent a semester up at Sappy Valley with this chick she knew. They rented an apartment together. And just about every time I talked to her, she would bitch and moan about how her roomie would leave dishes in the sink, not do any cleaning, etc. So of course after that semester, which was the time I graduated from my college, I moved up there and we got a place of our own. And she then bitched and moaned about me leaving dishes in the sink and not doing any house-cleaning. But at least she was getting laid...

That was me for a few years. Two of my best friends were renting out this apartment and the family above them moved out so another friend and me moved in (my first time out on my own) and we had the whole house. That lasted all year with two roommate switches. One of the guys down stairs got his g/f pregnant so he moved out with her and then another friend moved in. Then my roommate lost his job and moved back with his family so he was replaced with another friend. We all worked but we partied like college kids. This house was like a keg house and we did that until we finally got the boot. Then my roommate, me and another friend moved into this 3 bedroom apartment. That was cool because the parties died down but the place was terrible. It was clean and well kept, but it was just old. Old wooden floors which made the house really cold that winter. Plus, there was this family who lived down stairs so we had to watch what we did AND they had two teenage daughters, 15 and 16, and they always wanted to hang out upstairs with us which is just asking for fuckin' trouble. Remember, I was 24 at this time and of course the friggen 15 y/o had a crush on me and my one roommate would always let them hang out. Their mother was cool, but seriously, what the Hell was she thinking letting their daughters hang upstairs with guys our age and she knew we drank every day? Anyway, around this time my friend from high school split with his g/f and she moved out with their kid so he ended up having this big, really great two bedroom apartment. I mean this place was the shit. All brand new and updated. Heat and hot water included!!!!!!!! Had a patio back door and this big yard we had access too. So yeah, I moved in with him. I'm out of that old place, away from the underage girls and my retarded roommates. I'm thinking Josh just breaking up with his g/f who he was with 6 years had his shit together and kept a clean place and wasn't into the party scene since he lived with a girl for so long and had a daughter. WRONG! Never move in with someone who just split with their long time girlfriend or wife! All they want to do is make up for lost time and party. So that went on for while until I couldn't take it any longer and finally moved into where I'm at now. My own place above my family where I can go get food when I'm low and I can use their washer and dryer. Everything else I pay for, though.
The Dames 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 I had an offer to live with one of my best friends, but after agreeing to it for months (telling him that I would as soon as I found a job), I realized that it wouldn't work so I turned him down. I enjoy my peace and serenity and I can't see myself getting any downtime with him. I'd rather pay a little more to have my privacy and 100% of the say in my household. SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 I am 19 and my college is twenty minutes from home, so I just commute. However, I buy much of my own food (except when my mom makes "family dinners") and I am saving up so I can be out of here potentially by next year. What makes me want to stay at home right now is that it is free, I have unlimited access to cable and internet, and I'm still close to most of my friends. I'm mostly content right now, so it's all good. In a year or two, I will be out of here though. I just want to be somewhat independent.

I think its pretty selfish to expect to move out at 18, then get your parents to pay shitloads of money towards it.

Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 I'm 22, and I still live at home. I've got an entire upstairs to myself since my sister went away to school, I'm commuting to school and paying my own tuition, plus working 8 hours a day, so I'm basically only there to eat and sleep. Why the hell am I gonna lay out $700 at least for a decent apartment that I'd hardly ever be at? I do plan on being out within a year or so. Trying to save up for a place, and will probably rooming with one of my good friends if things pan out.

Guest Skironox Report post Posted December 6, 2003 I am 19. I moved out when I was 18. I floated around for a year, making enough and getting fucked up all the time. Eventually though, my job went to shit. I tried to find work but nobody wanted anything to do with me. After a while I came down with depression and my friends ditched me like I had leprosy or something (shows what their true colors were), everything and had to move back in with my parents, so now I'm basically just a hermit and seethe at the outside world. Don't just move out cause you have to, do it after you have your cards laid out and everythings going well for you. Otherwise you'll end up like me
