My last name is Hoffman; in college, a few guys started calling me "Hoff,' and it stuck. I answer to about six different things, but it's easier to stick to one short name on the boards. I went by HoffmanHBK for the longest time, but like Sass said, it was weird to see that on the board. So eventually I justt shortened it.

I never had a problem with it until on some message board in 2001 someone had already taken syxx so I added 2001 to the end. So now I have syxx2001. Then one time I forgot my password so sometimes I might have to use syxxer2001.
