Sorry if there's already been a topic about them, but DAMN, are they not the greatest band currently on MTV or what?

as stated on VH1's Best Week Ever...

If it's a straight act - it might just be a little crazy

If it's a schtick - it's BRILLIANCE.

I want to buy the CD...but I don't want to look like a bandwagon jumper in the process (since they were previously an underground British rock group)

I'm nearly confident that this tour is their first US tour ever.

right...but have there been any festivals or radio shows or whatnot? or is this going to be the first full concert in the states, in Milwaukee?

I take it The Darkness have made it in the US then?

It's not on the MTV every 10 minute mega push rotation yet but it is getting there. So far according to MTV Rock is Maroon 5, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Darkness. And yes they play the videos in this order.

The Darkness have actually just left Australian shores, as they did the Big Day Out festival here alongside The Strokes, Metallica and a host of other bands.

These guys are definetely *not* a straight act and put on one hell of a show. I've yet to go down to the store to buy their CD, but I've been meaning to recently after seeing them blow everyone away a few weeks ago.

At Big Day Out they were only upstaged by Metallica.

They're coming to the 9:30 Club in April and you better believe I'm going. I'm especially interested to see who in the hell they pick to open.

Shinedown mentioned there being a chance of them opening. If it happens, trust me, Shinedown is a great opening act. The vocalist sounds like a rock star, and the whole band gives a simply energetic performance.

it's definetly not schtick they fully believe in it

as some may now from olden days here im a huge hair metal fan (cause im an old bastard) so this is right up my alley hitting my area in boston and providence on april 3rd and 4th

im going to "put on my bad-ass red jeans" and rock out cause "I dont need no instructions to know how to ROCK!"

(hopes someone can place those quotes)

much better stuff on the album that "believe in a thing.." for those who havent checked it out yet

best IMO is "get your hands off of my woman"

motherfuuuuuuuuucker!!

When you see them live, are they in the 70's leotard jump suits and all that stuff or was that just a imagine for their first video? Kind of like Axl w/ the big hair in "Welcome to the Jungle?"

I saw them on IMX and they were wearing regular jeans and t-shirts which made me think the first video was just a gimmick to get noticed.

Carl, from Aqua Teen Hunger Force!

My favorite on the album might be "Black Shuk".

Nah, they wear the leotards on stage. It'd just look stupid to wear that for interviews too.

Besides, that wasn't their first video. It was their third (IIRC)

Heh. Just last week, I was hanging around after TNA with the Heel Section and other various people, and Scott Hudson and Athena almost got into a slapfight over The Darkness.

Athena: THEY ROCK!

Heel Section Guy: Sounds interesting, what's their website?

Scott Hudson: www.wesuck.com.

I know several people who absolutely HATE them.

I mean, there's LOATHING there.

Apparently, some people get offended because Darkness has gained success doing schtick.

The thing about The Darkness is that they played pubs and clubs for years before making it, leotards and all. Record companies actually turned them down because they thought people wouldn't take the music seriously. I Believe In A Thing Called Love flopped on it's original release in the UK. It's only after Get Your Hands Off Of My Woman got late night airplay on MTV2 and Growing On Me's cool video that they got noticed by the general public. Then they had good luck at festivals (opening the main stage at Glastonbury and being pushed up the card at Reading/Leeds after Jay-Z pulled out to shag Beyonce) and I Believe In A Thing Called Love got on Radio 1s A-List that they were considered a success.

They played off their gimmick in the same way Queen did when they started, almost to the point of being a tribute band. However, that doesn't make them any less real.

Heh, when I first heard the Darkness I thought "What the hell is this shit?" I joked and made fun of them. After seeing that VH1 bit on them though I can see that they aren't meant to be taken totally seriously and now I'm amused by it.

I think they're alright and a few of my friends convinced me that we should go to their concert March 31. We went to get tickets today and it was sold out already. I didn't realize there was such a demand to go see them. Doesn't make much sense to me.

They are hard to get tickets, especially when they are such a lively act on stage
