Guest Fire and Knives Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 I'm bored with ska and hip-hop right now, and I cannot rock out effectively with a great deal of the indie shit I own. Somebody give me back my punk rock love. Find me something to hold on to. K.
Guest Choken One Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Listen to Pre-SSS Agony. That does the trick. it's not punk but it's more punk then punk is.
Youth N Asia Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 You can't even define punk anymore. I like stuff that's almost punk, MXPX, TBS, and so on. I know if I mention a band a like some indy kid will pop up out of nowhere (maybe behind my desk) and shout out, "That's not punk!" And I'd be all like, "I never said it was." And he would be "Well, yeah...cause it's not!" Indie kids are little shits for the most part, Punk's dead...make way for "almost punk," there's a lot of them
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Just enjoy the Dead Kennedys cds you've probably had forever. They're better than any punk band I've heard come out since then.
Nevermortal Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Just listen to Danzig-era Misfits. There's nothing finer.
Guest Fire and Knives Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 So far, I've tried all the good punk I have. The only stuff that works in the slightest are the Germs and Black Flag. I need something new, damn it. There has to be a good new punk band that none of you are telling me about it. K.
Guest Fire and Knives Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Yeah, I know, but I decided to go ahead and post it on the off-chance that one of them might know something useful. K.
Guest Choken One Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 a real PUNK band...would never exist.
SamoaRowe Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Indie kids are little shits for the most part, Fuck yeah! I whole-heartedly agree!
Jobber of the Week Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 a real PUNK band...would never exist. They'd be so underground they never heard of themselves.
Red Baron Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Simple Plan. Now thats real punk. Please excuse me while I slit my wrists
Youth N Asia Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 a real PUNK band...would never exist. They'd be so underground they never heard of themselves. Yeah, a real punk band stops being punk once a single person has heard of them. After that they're just goddamn sellouts
nl5xsk1 Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 a real PUNK band...would never exist. CRASS (damn, I wish I knew how to make the "anarchy A" to put in the middle of that.) Not only talked about anarchy and starting a revolution, but outright wanted it to happen. They were real punk.
Henry Spencer Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Too bad Crass sucked major ass. If you want something loud, obnoxious, and gloriously offensive, look no further than Fear.
nl5xsk1 Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Yes, Crass was a pretty piss poor band ... but they really drank the anarchist kool-aid. My problem with Fear is that they only released one true punk album. More Beer is horrid, and everything that they released after that is worse. If we're talking about loud, obnoxious, borderline offensive punk rock, I'd take GBH or the Exploited, and potentially the Hard-Ons, over Fear. If we're saying US punk only, I'd prefer The Freeze (Land of the Lost) or MDC (anything pre-Millions of Damn Christians, which is punk in attitude only)
1234-5678 Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Punk never really won me over. Well, maybe The Ramones or The Clash. But the rest? Ok, I get it, they can't play their instruments........is that all?
Nighthawk Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Yoko Ono was the punkest artist ever. Seriously.
nl5xsk1 Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Punk never really won me over. Well, maybe The Ramones or The Clash. But the rest? Ok, I get it, they can't play their instruments........is that all? There's something funny about you saying that the Ramones won you over, but you question other bands abilities to play instruments. Many (if not most) punk bands could play circles around the Ramones.

Many (if not most) punk bands could play circles around the Ramones. Nah I realize the Ramones couldn't play as well. Not sure why I prefer them over others, I just do. Actually, I really tried to listen to some punk after a friend of mine forced me to watch SLC Punk. It just didn't work for me.
B. Brian Brunzell Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 So far, I've tried all the good punk I have. The only stuff that works in the slightest are the Germs and Black Flag. I need something new, damn it. There has to be a good new punk band that none of you are telling me about it. K. They'er not all that new, but have you tried giving Dropkick Murphys a listen? Good Punk riffs mixed with bagpipes and other traditional Irish sounds makes B. Brian a happy man. You should try it too.
EricMM Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Pennywise is kind of fun but it's not strait up DIY punk... Nothing I've heard is.
Red Baron Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Now I'm not big on the Punk scene, obviously I'd say The Plasmatics for sure, and Dead Kennedys, but would you consider Fugazi as Punk or just Indie style rock.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 I reccommend The Parkinsons, Ikara Colt and 80's Matchbox B-Line Disaster. Three London based bands, all very cool, very credible and very punk.
Guest Fire and Knives Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Hey, something I haven't heard of! You win. K.
5_moves_of_doom Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 How about the X-Ray Spex? They were riot grrrl 20 years before everyone else was, and though that might turn you off, I'll ensure you that they know how to rock. And I'm not sure if you've heard of them, but Agent Orange is always a solid choice, despite not being straight up punk. Checking out their first two albums would be worth your while. Pure Mania by the Vibrators and Inflammable Material by the Stiff Little Fingers also might work, though knowing you, you've probably already got both of those.
Nighthawk Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 I've heard of Agent Orange, so they must suck.
nl5xsk1 Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 The early stuff that Agent Orange did was pretty good, but by the time that they released "This is the Voice" they were pretty much a straight up pop band. It's a good pop album, but not a punk album by any stretch of the imagination.
KanadianKrusty Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Nah I realize the Ramones couldn't play as well. Not sure why I prefer them over others, I just do. Maybe the "let's just rock n' roll" attitude that replaces the usual fake anger crap. At least that's why I prefer The Ramones.
DCMaximo Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 I'd add Amen and Kinesis as bands who manage to mix punk ethics and attitude with great songs. Also I'd agree with 80's Matchbox B-Line Disaster and Ikara Colt as well, both of whom kick ass. And, even though they're an obvious choice, I'll always mention Refused, simply because "The Shape Of Punk To Come" is one of the greatest albums ever.
