Somebody make me like punk rock again.

Guest Fire and Knives

I'm bored with ska and hip-hop right now, and I cannot rock out effectively with a great deal of the indie shit I own.

Somebody give me back my punk rock love. Find me something to hold on to.

Listen to Pre-SSS Agony. That does the trick.

it's not punk but it's more punk then punk is.

You can't even define punk anymore.

I like stuff that's almost punk, MXPX, TBS, and so on. I know if I mention a band a like some indy kid will pop up out of nowhere (maybe behind my desk) and shout out, "That's not punk!" And I'd be all like, "I never said it was." And he would be "Well, yeah...cause it's not!" Indie kids are little shits for the most part,

Punk's dead...make way for "almost punk," there's a lot of them

Just enjoy the Dead Kennedys cds you've probably had forever. They're better than any punk band I've heard come out since then.

So far, I've tried all the good punk I have. The only stuff that works in the slightest are the Germs and Black Flag.

I need something new, damn it. There has to be a good new punk band that none of you are telling me about it.

Yeah, I know, but I decided to go ahead and post it on the off-chance that one of them might know something useful.

a real PUNK band...would never exist.

They'd be so underground they never heard of themselves.

Yeah, a real punk band stops being punk once a single person has heard of them. After that they're just goddamn sellouts

CRASS (damn, I wish I knew how to make the "anarchy A" to put in the middle of that.) Not only talked about anarchy and starting a revolution, but outright wanted it to happen. They were real punk.

Yes, Crass was a pretty piss poor band ... but they really drank the anarchist kool-aid. My problem with Fear is that they only released one true punk album. More Beer is horrid, and everything that they released after that is worse.

If we're talking about loud, obnoxious, borderline offensive punk rock, I'd take GBH or the Exploited, and potentially the Hard-Ons, over Fear. If we're saying US punk only, I'd prefer The Freeze (Land of the Lost) or MDC (anything pre-Millions of Damn Christians, which is punk in attitude only)

Punk never really won me over. Well, maybe The Ramones or The Clash. But the rest? Ok, I get it, they can't play their instruments........is that all?

There's something funny about you saying that the Ramones won you over, but you question other bands abilities to play instruments. Many (if not most) punk bands could play circles around the Ramones.

Nah I realize the Ramones couldn't play as well. Not sure why I prefer them over others, I just do.

Actually, I really tried to listen to some punk after a friend of mine forced me to watch SLC Punk. It just didn't work for me.

They'er not all that new, but have you tried giving Dropkick Murphys a listen? Good Punk riffs mixed with bagpipes and other traditional Irish sounds makes B. Brian a happy man. You should try it too.

Now I'm not big on the Punk scene, obviously I'd say The Plasmatics for sure, and Dead Kennedys, but would you consider Fugazi as Punk or just Indie style rock.

How about the X-Ray Spex? They were riot grrrl 20 years before everyone else was, and though that might turn you off, I'll ensure you that they know how to rock.

And I'm not sure if you've heard of them, but Agent Orange is always a solid choice, despite not being straight up punk. Checking out their first two albums would be worth your while.

Pure Mania by the Vibrators and Inflammable Material by the Stiff Little Fingers also might work, though knowing you, you've probably already got both of those.

The early stuff that Agent Orange did was pretty good, but by the time that they released "This is the Voice" they were pretty much a straight up pop band. It's a good pop album, but not a punk album by any stretch of the imagination.

Maybe the "let's just rock n' roll" attitude that replaces the usual fake anger crap. At least that's why I prefer The Ramones.

I'd add Amen and Kinesis as bands who manage to mix punk ethics and attitude with great songs. Also I'd agree with 80's Matchbox B-Line Disaster and Ikara Colt as well, both of whom kick ass. And, even though they're an obvious choice, I'll always mention Refused, simply because "The Shape Of Punk To Come" is one of the greatest albums ever.
