Indy announcers? Pshaw. How many of them can't tell the difference between a TABLE and a CHAIR?

As far as giving away the main...JR does that all the friggin' time. Anytime he sounds positive about something, he's wrong. Tony gave away mains too, he was just smart enough to not give away the ones on his own show. Or dumb enough. I forget which.

noo...Cole said "WE WILL TALK TO THE NEW WORLD CHAMPION" 2 hours before austin won the title...

That's giving away the ending...JR doesn't flat out reveal the ending.

Has anybody ever watched the short lived Urban Pro Wrestling show that had Wantabe and a rapper as the announcers? Wantabe has to be the worst announcer for the crap that he did on the FMW videos with Gellar. The guy called ever move TWICE! it was like "BODY SLAM BODY SLAM by the AWOL Marine Mike Awesome"

The only problem with Tony Schiavone was that he went crazy with the Hogan love which is almost if not worst than JR announcing Austin in WWF.

At least Tony doesn't have a grating voice and emphasise every second word ala Cole. Plus he sounded like he actually cared at times and was into the action (which Cole normally isn't)

I remember one heat from 2001, Coach and Micheal Hayes were commentating i think, and all they were fucking talking about during the entire show was HHH/Austin in the 2/3 falls coming up later that night at NWO. Seriously, that was all they fucking talked about, and they must of said this about a 1000+ times during the show; "Stone Cold and Triple H go one on one tonight!" Im pretty sure they both creamed themselves over that.

Well, to be fair it was the SNH before the PPV. They were trying to sell the big main event for those last minute buyers.

Like everyone has said, Tony was a great announcer up until 97 or so, then it all went downhill. He could still do a good job when he wanted to, but didn't seem to try. Watch the Booker T/Benoit match from the MNWars DVD listen to them talk about the NBA Finals. Just Wow.

I never really had a problem with Vince until Monsoon retired from announcing and I got to hear him all the time. It was bad. Suprisingly I actually began to like him as part or the Lawler/JR/Vince combo in 96/97. Underrated team IMO.

Indy announcers? Pshaw. How many of them can't tell the difference between a TABLE and a CHAIR?

That was a one time mistake so that is't fair. Most Indy announcers suck pretty bad. Schiavone and Cole are both better than 90% out there.

In regards to Tony miscalling moves, when I first started watching wrestling I only watched WCW, and because of his announcing I honestly thought the spinebuster was called a sidewalk slam.

Both Tony and JR were very good when starting out in the NWA and a lot of that has to do with working opposite Bob Caudle and learning how to properly call matches. It was only later when they were pressured by the power that be to shill everything and put the stars over in a certain way that they went on the downhill slide.

One of the most underrated teams was Heenan, Savage and Vince from the first RAWs. They had surprisingly chemistry and were very entertaining. I remember that jobber Tony DeVito was on the show and Vince said he was the cousin of Basil DeVito like that was a great thing and Randy said that Basil owed him ten bucks and Heenan though he was the cousin of Danny DeVito. They messed more with McMahon than sniping at each other and it was a neat way to go.

One of the funniest thing I ever hear JR say was shortly after he came to the WWF and was doing Wrestling Challenge with Gorilla. He called Tatanaka's finisher "the Papoose to Go" like that was it's real name.

Dude, I thought a German Suplex was a Dragon Suplex up until about 1998/99 thanks to Schiavone.

And i know the SNH was hyping the PPV, but did they really have to repeat the same thing over and over again the entire show?

WCW Saturday Night comes on the air and it is kind of quite and maybe Schiavone says a word or two and then every week he would somewhat randomy yell "SATURDAY NIGHT IS ON THE AIR!!!" I think might be one of my favorite things of all time just because Schiavone was so awful!!!

Thanks.

My personal favorites from Tony...

A guy gets thrown into the ringside barricade: "Oooooh... right into the Rail of Pain!"

And a pair of classics from Halloween Havoc 2000:

"Ohhhhhh..... HE'S DEAD." (Still used by my friends here to this day)

"Aw, this sucks!" (I love shoot comments...)

I actually had a debate with a buddy of mine over the very subject:

"Dude, that's a german suplex"

"No dude, a german suplex is when he has him in a full nelson"

"No dude, it isn't"

"Yes dude, it is. Tony Schiavone called it like that all the time"

Silly me. Silly, Silly me.

"HE'S FLOATING TO THE RING!"

-Tony on Seven's debut

Funny how it happened. Tony was passable untill Nitro started getting good, then he went in the shitter.

And JR the last few years hasn't been much better. "Bah God! That's it! He's won the match! Now he's just gotta roll him over and get the pin!"

JR, Cole, and Tazz all seem to pull that crap where they're all but promising that one guy will win, and somehow the other guys pulls it off.

And I love JR's "He fooled us all!" When everyone saw everything coming a mile away

Vince seemed to be the originator of giving away the finish by saying Wrestler X was in total control of the match and that nothing will stop him.

Or the pimping Wrestler A fighting Wrestler C the next night on RAW when Wrestle C is a lot more credible than Wrestler B.

I remember him doing this at KOTR 95 (During Savio/Roadie, hyping Savio/Jarrett), and I think a match from IYH3 between Bulldog/Bigelow when they hyped a Bulldog match the next night.

Coincidentally, Savio and Bulldog won their matches. :gasp:

Yeah, I remember the opening match at WM13 is a fourway elimination tag match. It's down to the Headbangers and Godwins, and one of the Godwins gets one of the Headbangers in position for the Slop Drop (Reverse DDT). As he does this, Vince says something to the effect of "at that'll do it, folks, and the Godwins will move on to get a tag team title shot tomorrow on RAW...NO!" And of course the Headbangers win. Stupid, stupid announcing.

And I _hate_ it when I hear the announcers say "that's gotta be it!" because you know it's not.

But back to Tony, another classic - he called a sunset flip a sidewalk slam.

Cole gave it away that Eddy Guerrero was going to win the WWE Title against Brock Lesner, when he announced Eddy for an interview on a Smackdown

Cole: And here's the next WWE Champion, Eddy Guerrero!

Half the time I don't even have to watch the whole show, when Cole is commentating

That could just be the face announcer pandering to the face wrestler... as in Cole would be thinking "I know it would piss off Tazz if I said _______"

Here's some Schiavone quotes:

"Back in Jacksonville with four words, I want a Nitro Girl." - WCW Nitro (07/09/99)

"This is a first time ever in pro wrestling, in any type of wrestling, that a man has been told that he will wrestle, not one, not two, but three times in one night." - WCW Nitro (12/27/99)

"Tank Abbott can dance, I don't think there's any question about that." - WCW Nitro (07/18/00)

"Every fan around the world wants to see the Harris Twins go up against KroniK" - WCW Nitro (09/04/00)

"Do you believe everything you see on this program?" - WCW Nitro (09/18/00)

Didn't get them from Power Slam magazine, by any chance?
