Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2004 Found parts of this on another board and figured some may of you may be interested. While there are certainly a lot of untalented acts on the list, the fact that you've probably never heard of most of these groups goes to show how pussified record labels have become. The vocalist for Twisted Method explained to me that despite having the best selling album of all the Ozzfest 2003 sidestage groups, getting picked up for three tours since then, and getting themselves a steady fanbase despite unimaginative music, their management had to pick up the tab for a website photo shoot. And a video, well, of course, that's out of the question. Here you go... 1. Abandoned Pools Dropped By Warner Bros., Leave Exctasy 3. Adema Dropped By Arista 4. Apex Theory Dropped By Dreamworks 6. A Happy Medium 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2004 I'm pretty surprised that Goldfinger was dropped by Jive...since they do have a pretty loyal fanbase which usually insures a gold record every time out....then again, I didn't really like their last album as much as I did Stomping Ground and Hang Ups. I actually used to listen to Skrape...heh. Orgy going to start their own label? Meh.
Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2004 Cradle of Filth being dropped doesn't seem like much of a stretch. They've burned through like 5 labels since they released their first album on Cacophonous.

I actually used to listen to Skrape...heh. Orgy going to start their own label? Meh. I grabbed most of this list from another website, and Goldfinger was one of the few who I was "ehhh" about including in this list. I can't confirm they've been dropped, but Jive doesn't take low record sales lightly, as they've shown themselves to be very drop happy. Skrape got fucked over huge by RCA. The album got pushed back several months, killing any momentum they had thanks to their support of the Spineshank/Nino tour, and received zero promotion upon "Up the Dose's" release. Orgy's new CD is already out, and it's pretty bad ass.

I actually used to listen to Skrape...heh. Orgy going to start their own label? Meh. I think they wanted to leave Jive. And I believe it was Jive's influence to make them act like they were 21 years old and cop Sum 41's act.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 I'm not too concerned by this, because out of all the dropped groups I've heard on this list, I can't honestly say that I think one of them made particularly good music. For the most part, I vote "good call, music business." Of course, the major labels still form a cannibalistic enterprise that chews up most young talent and spits them out when they don't cross over. Which is unfortunate, but far less unfortunate when it's Dope and Eve 6 getting shitcanned.
A Happy Medium 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 Yeah. Reminds me that I need to go pick up Orgy's new album. A lof of nu metal stuff seems to be falling by the wayside, too.
Guest Nanks Report post Posted April 8, 2004 Pacifier counting down the days???? What's that about?? I really like Pacifier.
mister foozel 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 Cold will prbably get dropped too, depending on how next album does really hope Nonpoint starts their own label or joins up on another one because they are a very talented band and deserve all the good thingsd that come to them
Guest JRE Report post Posted April 8, 2004 So...what's Pearl Jam doin? They released Lost Dogs to run their contract out...right?
Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 Pacifier counting down the days???? What's that about?? I really like Pacifier. They had a minor hit with Bullitproof, so who knows? Their CD didn't exactly set the world on fire as far as sales go, but then again, they have a good reputation overseas so they may get themselves a second US CD. Cold actually already got dropped, or "parted ways" if you believe the band over the record company. Various sources list the vocalist as having a drug addiction that he refused to get help for, thus them being dropped. And yeah, Nonpoint does deserve better. haVoc 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 How old is this list? Tommy Lee was dropped almost two years ago and I have really hard time believing it took this long for Crazy Town to get dropped.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 So...what's Pearl Jam doin? They released Lost Dogs to run their contract out...right? I don't think they've decided yet. The main options seem to be: 1) sell the albums themselves, similar to how they did the bootlegs from the last tour 2) still release albums through Epic on a per-album basis 3) start their own label (I highly doubt they'd do this) If I was a betting man, I'd pick #1. Someone on another board had just compiled it, likely looking at their album collection and seeing who was and wasn't signed anymore.
Guest Nanks Report post Posted April 9, 2004 Pacifier counting down the days???? What's that about?? I really like Pacifier. They had a minor hit with Bullitproof, so who knows? Their CD didn't exactly set the world on fire as far as sales go, but then again, they have a good reputation overseas so they may get themselves a second US CD. Bullitproof was a hit over there?? Cool. So this is just the US branch of the record company dropping them then?? That makes more sense. They're still reasonably popular in Australia, and obviously, NZ. LIFE OF AGONY has made a killing selling the albums off the web-site and proved you dont need record companies at all...Many other bands have done the same and succeded... PJ would have ZERO problems getting their albums out on their own.

I don't know where I heard it, but I downloaded it, and somehow, recognized it enough to recall a lot of its lyrics. I'm just guessing that they may not get a second US album. Who knows if it'll happen.
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2004 That pretty much looked like a list of every B and C list nu metal band. And to think that they all propably got pretty nice signing advances only a few years ago...
Cartman 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 Not that i think many of you would care, but Ra has NOT been dropped from Universal per band member's om their message board saying so. They have a new album due in month or two and here is a site with 4 tracks that will be on said album, including a nice cover song Police fans might enjoy. New "Ra" songs! Personally I think "The Only One" is an awesome song.

I think it's a really good song but that's just me. Seeing and meeting them in person totally sold me as a lifetime fan, and I love all their music so I guess that would make me Biased. Personally I think "The Only One" is an awesome song. Thank God. I absolutely loved their first album. As for Crazy Town, yeah, I'm very glad they were dropped. I very rarely hate on nu-metal bands, but they were terrible. The album they put out after the "Butterfly" song was just incredibly terrible, with only two decent songs included.
