Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 <i>Eugene Character To Take Rainman Like Turn Posted By Ashish on 04.20.04 Details on the controversial character.... The plan for Eugene is to have him take a Rainmain-like turn. He would appear to be mentally slow but would shock opponents and turn out to be a gifted wrestler. edotherocket 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 This gimmick relies on Dinsmore being any good. All the OVW wrestlers, regardless of the reputation preceeding them, seem to have the exact same moveset. I mean he would have to be *noticably* good for this to work. Guest cpac Report post Posted April 21, 2004 But the retard gimmick is working so well. And for him to shock opponents he has to have talent to begin with.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 This is exactly what I wanted his character to be when I first heard about his debut. Out of the ring he's this goof that runs around acting like a retard, but once he gets into the ring he becomes a wrestling machine. He can still act goofy in the ring between moves, etc... but when he is actually wrestling it's all business. I like this a lot.

I agree, but he has to have a larger than normal moveset for it to work. The current standard WWE moveset of dropkick, chop/punch, clothesline, chinlock, etc won't work for the character. What would work would be something like: high angle backdrop.. drools on turnbuckle while giggling shining wizard.. sits on ring steps and rocks back and forth etc.. haVoc 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 How strong is Nick whatever? I remember the observer said they originally wanted the character to be a retarded hillbilly who didn't know his own strength.
Ultra Violence 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 Either that or they do the "doofy" ending from Scary Movie and have him change into normal clothes then become "Mr Wrestling" Nick Dinsmore.... Actually I love the Rainman film, if they can pull it off i'll be happy.
haVoc 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 I figured the retard will start getting his ass kicked and Regal will finally snap and come to his aid proving he has a soft spot for the little windowlicker. Then they become tag champs.
Guest Goodear Report post Posted April 21, 2004 Is Regal ever going to be able to wrestle again? I thought I heard that they had ruled that out due to the complications with that illness he had but he looks fine. Granted looks aren't everything, so I figured I would ask. haVoc 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 This was from "Byte This" last week. Josh asked Regal if he's in the best shape of his life right now? Regal said that he truly feels that way. William has been working out and he feels great. He's really working on the conditioning and training and that seems to suit him better than anything else. Tom asked him what are the chances of him getting back in the ring as a wrestler? Regal said that after the 4th of May, he should be able to get back in the ring. They just want to take more tests to make sure there has been no problems and so far, there hasn't been any problems so after the 4th of May, he'll be ready to go. Josh asked if he's ready to be back on the road full time? Regal said that he is because he already is on the road full time. Tom said that having William Regal by Eugene's side is going to help him elevate his game and add a new dimension to Regal's side. Regal said that people don't know something about Eugene and that's that he's actually good at learning and once Regal gets in the ring with him to train him, he thinks Eugene is going to become a tremendous wrestler. Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 If they let Dinsmore be the great technical wrestler that he was in OVW... *drools*
clean rob 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 Is this the same OVW that allegedly had the 'great technical wrestlers' Doug Basham, Damaja, Orton etc.? I'm always rather sceptical of these wrestlers who come out of OVW to much fanfare, and then turn out to be nothing special at all. Time will tell with Dinsmore I guess. Anyway, I agree with everyone else who says the angle could potentially be very good, but it needs to be done right, and Dinsmore needs to be something different in the ring. I think a nice touch would be some training segments with him and Regal where Dinsmore picks stuff up incredibly quickly, to Regal's surprise.
Guest JericholicEdgeHead Report post Posted April 21, 2004 Believe me, guys like Doug Basham, Damaja (Danny Basham) & Nick Dinsmore can WRESTLE. I followed these guys in OVW, and what you see with them in WWE is a watered down version. Also these guys had a personality & attitude in OVW where they don't get to show it in WWE. I'm telling you WWE doesn't use their roster to the full potential, most of the time they make great performers into mid card cartoon characters. I suggest go find some tapes of these guys in OVW and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Enigma 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 Hmmm, this conflicts with all the house show reports on his matches with A-Train. The reports said he acted like a retard in the ring too.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 Maybe you missed the part of the thread title where they said the character is "about to change."
Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 True about the Bashams.... but I think if he is put in the ring with a good wrestler from RAW (Conway, Christian, a good heel wrestler), he can put on a hell of a match. I think they might let him actually wrestle his style unlike the boring Bashams.

evilhomer 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 Hmmm, this conflicts with all the house show reports on his matches with A-Train. The reports said he acted like a retard in the ring too. That's just typical WWE logic, leave the performer as strictly comic relief and don't let them get over with actual talent and wrestling ability. It's the same as Rico, his gimmick is proven to work when the wrestler turns into a machine in the ring, but instead they've got his offense consisting almost entirely of gropes and mannerisms. At least with Dinsmore they're testing it out on house shows. Hopefully since this is failing the change will be to allow him to show off his ability. Of course that is if he has ability. I'm also skeptical about an OVW reputation. I don't know if they suddenly get strings attached when they get up to the WWE or if they're just overrated, but nobody has come anywhere near their fanfare. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 There is some truth to this OVW stuff (I know, I'm from Louisville). I'll try and clarify who from OVW impressed me and who really didn't while they were here: Doug Basham: Don't care much for him...even Benoit didn't get much out of him when Benoit came here for a rare appearance. Damaja (Danny): He's ok, kinda bland. Nothing to write home about. Rob Conway: He's about the same in WWE actually. Has good heelish charisma. Nick Dinsmore: He actually IS really good when given the opportunity. I saw a match on OVW when Al Snow came down here and it was awesome. The peculiar thing about OVW is that the guys who are actually GOOD on there never seem to get anywhere. On that same Snow/Dinsmore show there was a wild hardcore brawl between Trailer Park Trash and Flash Flannagan that was Foley worthy...yet I don't think either of those guys are even in OVW anymore, and certainly never got a chance in WWE. Same thing goes for Conway and Dinsmore, they'd been down here forever and seemingly never got a break till recently.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 I think it would be marvelous if they went full-out Rainman with this character. Like have Eugene use his "gift" to predict who the winners of certain matches would be and then have Regal become a compulsive gambler because of it. And training montages are a must in this case. Have Regal take Eugene to Blackpool and volunteer Eugene to fight in Toughman Competitions, bar brawls etc.
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 Still doesn't fix the "beat a retard/got beat by a retard" thing though.
Guest Goodear Report post Posted April 21, 2004 I really think out of the 'lesser' guys that have came out of OVW (aka not Cena, Brock, Benjamin and Haas) that Conway has shown the most despite getting basically the short straw of being stuck in a midcard tag team that doesn't get placed in a lot of 5-7 minute match situations. He seems a bit more polished than the larger guys called up like Cade and Jindrak but has more personality than Danny and Doug simply by the nature of his mannerisms.
Guest JMA Report post Posted April 21, 2004 I'm guessing guys like Steven Richards and Lance Storm will have the "honor" of putting over Eugene. It's a shame that the man known as the "Franchise" of OVW is now playing a complete comedy character. Oddly enough, in Rob Conway's bio section on WWE.com, his feud with NICK Dinsmore is summarized. Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted April 21, 2004 So when's Dinsmore going to actually wrestle. I still think he should've snapped and totally destroyed Le Res when they tore the head off his bunny.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 So it transitions from retard to idiot savant? Would Eugene start saying "Yeah headlock on before commercial break, Yeah" or "Yeah submission wins match 69% of the time Yeah"?
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 I still don't like Eugene. Why couldn't they just have Dinsmore debut as a good technical wrestler? Why do they pigeonhole him as a retard? He could've been the next Dean Malenko, now he's just the next WWE clown retread. R.I.P. Nick Dinsmore's career.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 I'm loving Eugene. It means we get to see Regal all the time and their interactions together are hilarious. Plus we get lots of Regal faces! It's sad that their wasting Nick Dinsmore like this but I don't really care. As long as I'm entertained
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 I'm all for more Regal on TV. Hell, I think WWE missed a grand oppurtunity for Regal to reprise his role as a GM. He should be GM for SD right now, IMO. Sure, Regal was Raw talent, but it's not like fans take jumps seriously anymore (WWE sure doesn't). As far as Dinsmore, the only way his character will get better is if they drop the stupid retard act.
