Vern Gagne Posted April 30, 2004 Report Posted April 30, 2004 Got the idea from Page2 on ESPN.Com Who either has or do you think would excel athletically outside of the ring. Ric Flair-great endurance in the ring, amateur wrestling background, and football player at Minnesota. Not this is Flair in his younger days. Kurt Angle-collegiate, and gold medal amateur, likely excelled in numerous sports in high school. Brock Lesnar-collegiate champion, great agility, quickness for a man his size. Know plans on holding a tryout for NFL teams.
Mystery Eskimo Posted April 30, 2004 Report Posted April 30, 2004 I remember Kurt Angle said in his book that Benoit could have been a world class amateur wrestler with the right training. The Rock was a football player, wasn't he? He seems like the kinda guy who could do most sports well anyway.
Mecha Mummy Posted April 30, 2004 Report Posted April 30, 2004 Wasn't Ernie Ladd a fairly successful football player?
Guest The Masked Avenger Posted April 30, 2004 Report Posted April 30, 2004 -Verne Gagne was a very successful amateur wrestler -Bad News Allen/Brown was an Olympic Judo medalist (forget which medal) -Angle, obviously -I seem to recall that Benoit held some Canadian body building title? -Mark Henry, while a shitty wrestler, is undoubtedly a great athlete -TMA
deancoles Posted April 30, 2004 Report Posted April 30, 2004 The Steiners were both successful in sports.
therealworldschampion Posted April 30, 2004 Report Posted April 30, 2004 I'd add Ron Simmons to the list, wasn't he a 2-time All-American at Florida State?
Guest Stunt Granny Posted April 30, 2004 Report Posted April 30, 2004 Kevin Nash played basketball in high school. Can't beat that.
DCMaximo Posted April 30, 2004 Report Posted April 30, 2004 I could be wrong, but isn't there a weightlifting lift named after RVD? Also, Jorge "Giant" Gonzales was a basketball player, before getting knee injuries and Doug Williams was a judo champion in the UK
Steviekick Posted April 30, 2004 Report Posted April 30, 2004 Bad News Brown won a bronze medal in Judo. I know what someoen was mentioning about the RVD lift, but I'm not sure if it is a legitimate stat.
tbondrage99 Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 The Iron Sheik, Ken Patera, Molly Holly, Shelton Benjiman, Charlie Haas, John Bradshaw Layfeild.
Guest DeathBecomesYou Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 Molly Holly I agree with that one, I remember reading that when she was younger, that Molly was a very good gymnast, plus her background in powerlifting, that's two sports she could've been succesful at.
Reverb Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 I know what someoen was mentioning about the RVD lift, but I'm not sure if it is a legitimate stat. Coming from Van Dam's site. As of today, the appropriately named Van Dam Lift is listed among the registered lifts open for all competitors to do at any USWA weightlifting meet. Recently, I set the national record by lifting a dumbell of 166.5 pounds. Any of you dumbells want to give it a try?[/quote
Corey_Lazarus Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 The Van Dam Lift is when you do a split between two chairs and then deadlift weights. Just FYI... I'd have to say Chris Hero must be a tremendous athlete. 90-minute Iron Man match.
TheBigSwigg Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 Kevin Nash played basketball in high school. Can't beat that. Kevin Nash played NCAA Division I basketball at the University of Tennessee
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 Curt Hennig was supposedly a great athlete, I remember hearing that the fact that he was always good at several sports is the reason why the WWF gave him the Mr. Perfect gimmick.
lomasmoney Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 Kevin Nash played basketball in high school. Can't beat that. Kevin Nash played NCAA Division I basketball at the University of Tennessee He played high school at Trenton High School and then Southgate Thomas Aquinas in Michigan. He went to Trenton with my history teacher in high school and then my two youngest uncles played basketball there about a decade after Nash.
Jericho2000Mark Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 I'd have to say Chris Hero must be a tremendous athlete. 90-minute Iron Man match. Wow, He must have a strong back, carrying CM Puke for 90 minutes...
Steviekick Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 Mick Foley rocked at lacrosse in high school...
Spaceman Spiff Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 -Jindrak played college basketball -I think DDP played baseball -I think Randy Savage spent a few years in the minor leagues as a catcher
Vern Gagne Posted May 2, 2004 Author Report Posted May 2, 2004 Bradshaw played college football I believe Vader, Jim Nienhardt, and Lex Luger at least played high school football.
DCMaximo Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 -Jindrak played college basketball Hell, not only that, Jindrak WAS Basket Case, the greatest wrestling basketball player gimmick WCW ever came up with.
Steviekick Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 I think DDP played baseball He played basketball during college.
Guest Astro Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 Verne Gagne was a olympic level wrestler, and played pro football with the Packers briefly (tryout at least)
Guest MikeSC Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 Bradshaw played college football I believe Vader, Jim Nienhardt, and Lex Luger at least played high school football. I thought Neidhart played with the Raiders --- or what that totally kayfabed? JYD played for the Packers, didn't he? -=Mike
Cran Da Maniac Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 Luger was in that league that ran counter to the NFL (I can't remember) Brian Pillman played for the Cinncinati Bengals
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 Luger was in that league that ran counter to the NFL (I can't remember) USFL.
