JoeDirt Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 I'm sure guys like Perfect, HBK, and Jannetty will be mentioned here. But I always get a laugh out of D-Von Dudley. Sure, he doesn't oversell a ton during the matches, but when he takes a big bump or a big move I always laugh when he spasms all over the mat, completely overselling it. Anyone else out there you'd like to mention?
cawthon777 Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 Before even opening the thread, I had HBK and Hennig in mind. LOVED them selling punches where they would fly backwards and send a big wad of spit into the crowd.
tbondrage99 Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 You cant talk about overselling without Ric Flair. Dont you just love the way someone throws him into the turnbuckle and he walks out to the middle of the ring or so and just flops down on the mat. I also recall someone throwing him into the turnbuckle he flipped over it hit the apron on the outside bounced off of that and then bounced off the steel barricade and then did the aformentioned flop on the canavas on the outside. If thats not overselling I dont know what is. Actually I think I saw HBK do this too but I think Flair did it even better.
Guest Fook Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 Whenever Rock got stunned, he'd literally bounce up and around the ring. Everyone else would just fall down.
therealworldschampion Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 HBK or Hennig overselling punches, or Flair overselling a Figure-Four. I'd swear he acted like he was being stabbed when that happened.
Coffin Surfer Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 The "Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibese comes to mind. Atomic Drop him and he'd bounce over the top rope and take a splat bump on the floor, essentially turning a weak looking move into a sick spot. He would also somersault to put over gut punches for whatever reason. Oh, and I remember in Greg Valentine vs. Randy Savage at Wrestlemania IV, the Hammer put over ever single move by turning limp and flopping face down on the mat. So every little hit pretty much killed him, but in a few seconds he'd be fine.

I always loved DiBiase getting his head slammed into a ringpost and doing a full flip on the mat when he landed. -=Mike ...I always thought Steamboat oversold a bit
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 Yah Steamboat did his drunk selling act which owned.
cawthon777 Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 or Flair overselling a Figure-Four. I'd swear he acted like he was being stabbed when that happened. Speaking of Flair, I loved how he would oversell a superplex - especially from Vader. Flair would hit the mat ... wait a second ... then scream in pain and roll around in the mat like it was the plane crash all over again.
The Metal Maniac Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 Rock damn-near took a head bump off of a gore, so I'd say he's up there.
JST Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 - Watch when someone Atomic Drops Rick Rude. He'll stay there and bend over in pain as if a group of inmates had their way with him. - I'd be remiss in not mentionning the ultimate Hennig Killer: the catapult into the ringpost. - Marty Jannetty taking a clothesline. Hell, Keith even created a scale for that in his honor.
Use Your Illusion Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 My favourite oversell of all time was the way Shawn took Sid's big boot at SSeries 1996 as HBK was coming off the second turnbuckle. Rolled backwards, then upright onto his head, before flopping back down on the mat. Looked unreal. UYI
Guest jm29195 Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 Rikishi occasionally works in a terrific clothesline oversell, nearly as good as Jannetty's, considering how big he is... I've always liked Terry Funks crazy old man seling where he wanders around waving his arms looking like he's having a seizure...
Cheex Incarnate Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 This isn't really an example of over selling, but I love the way Terry Funk kinda just meanders around the ring like he's a drunken uncle. He even gets in the "put up yer dukes" stance with his legs wobbling and spread out passed his shoulders. Classic -Cheex
Mecha Mummy Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 Scott Hall and Shane McMahon both sold the stunner really hilariously. They'd, like, launch themselves into the air a couple feet and then hit the ground and spasm for half a second.

They'd, like, launch themselves into the air a couple feet and then hit the ground and spasm for half a second. I thought Rock was the KING of selling the Stunner. Also, at GAB '90, Tommy Rich did the most ridiculous oversell of a piledriver. Harley Race piledrove him and he bounced back TO HIS FEET and fell out of the ropes. -=Mike
Ace309 Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 The Amazing Red had no setting between "no-sell" and "convulse on the mat as if you've just been electrocuted," so I think he deserves a mention.
Just John Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 I love Rikishi's clothesline oversell where he flips over. I remember a really funny one from a Bash at the Beach (I think it was 93). The British Bulldog takes a splash from Vader and the Bulldog starts convulsing like he was having a seizure. I always get a kick out of the Rock taking a stunner and doing a back flip.
MillenniumMan831 Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 I also loved when DiBiase would always miss his 2nd rope backwards elbow. He'd land on his back and flip up and down on his face.
Masked Man of Mystery Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 EVERYBODY oversells the Stunner in the WM18 game.
Papacita Posted May 2, 2004 Report Posted May 2, 2004 I love Rikishi's clothesline oversell where he flips over. I remember he did that sell for Chyna once in 2000. It was pretty funny. Jannetty overselling the Superkick at Rumble 93 was funny as well. The best oversellers were easily between Hennig, Shawn and Ric though.
Perfxion Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 Hogan can get up on this list too. When Hogan would sell, he goes overkill, then goes to no sell, back to overkill. Examples - WM6 vs Warrior where he "Blew out his knee". HH95 where Ness and Gaint did the double bearhug. Anything Andre did would leave him in the D-Von sell for minutes.

They'd, like, launch themselves into the air a couple feet and then hit the ground and spasm for half a second. I immediately thought of Unforgiven 2000 when reading this, where Shane spits the beer out on impact after every Stunner.
Guest Stunt Granny Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 Vince McMahon pretending to have a stroke after Austin stunned at MSG for the first time was pretty crazy. Or how about when HHH broke JR's arm and Ross just lays on the mat flailing around.
pochorenella Posted May 5, 2004 Report Posted May 5, 2004 Scott Hall and Shane McMahon both sold the stunner really hilariously. They'd, like, launch themselves into the air a couple feet and then hit the ground and spasm for half a second. I immediately thought of Unforgiven 2000 when reading this, where Shane spits the beer out on impact after every Stunner. Actually, Shane spit the beer on the rebound from the Stunner. It looked cool as hell, IMO. One of the best, next to Rocky's always awesome selling of the move. And Randy Orton sold the Stunner like a champ back on Survivor Series 2003, and he ended up tangled on the ropes Rock-style. On the other end of the spectrum, look at Goldberg's pathetic selling of the Stunner on WMXX. Godd riddance, sez I.

RVD hit the mat and jumped three feet in the air.
Guest Hot Ticket Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 Billy Gunn always oversold for The Rock and only The Rock
