Damaramu 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 Hey I just got back from the first show of the 2004 Vans Warped Tour in Dallas Texas! It was originally supposed to start in Houston on Friday night but they got rained out. Overall it was a pretty good show. I don't think it was as good as last year's though. This year the main bands playing on the big stage at the end were as follows: Flogging Molly, Bouncing Souls, The Vandals, and Bad Religion. Actually that was the only bands I cared about at the end. One other band played but I can't remember there name b/c I hated them. It was an awesome show but the only other band's I really liked that day were The Casualties(oh my god that's like the 3rd time i've seen them and they fucking rock everytime!) and Bowling For Soup(hey they're funny!). There was a band of like 8 year old punk kids playing so that was cool. I dunno.....I had more fun last year. Partly b/c it was my first Warped Tour and partly b/c I just loved the Andrew WK/Dropkick Murphys/Less Than Jake/Suicide Machines/Rancid lineup. No NOFX though.....bastards. Also this year I noticed the sudden influx of 12-17 year old girls that look like Avril Lavinge and Korn kids.......EVERYWHERE! It was absurd. It rained though. That was pretty cool. Me and my friend's played in the puddles splashing water and shit. It was funny though b/c it was like a monsoon and people were already soaked and they'd get made when we splashed water on them. Then again some people loved it and came over to play with us. Then these 2 girls started throwing mud...oh man that wasn't cool. I did see a lot of chicks in nothing but bra's or bathing suit tops and a lot of mud wrestling. We met these two girls there we hung around with and one of them was sticking real close to me. We went to see Bowling for Soup and she stood in front of me and grinded her ass on my crotch the entire time. It wasn't a booty dance dammit...it was an f'n standing lap dance. I felt all up on her ass and tits and she didn't say anything and afterwards I called her on it and she claimed she was just trying to balance herself(on my cock apparently). I did put her up on my shoulders though so she could flash Bowling for Soup and then I got her up on my shoulders so she could see the 8 year old's playing music and dared her to flash them.....she did. It was cool. I didn't mosh as much this year either. I was tired early on. Which I don't understand b/c I'm in better shape than I was last year....ah well I guess I'm getting old. Overall a very fun experience and you don't have to be so-called "punk rock" to go. Because I listen to a lot of punk music and go to a lot of punk shows but I don't consider myself "punk rock" in the least bit at all. So the Warped Tour was fun and I recommend it. *cheesey thumbs up*
Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 I'll be there this year for Avenged Sevenfold, Billy Talent, Letter Kills, Lennon, Sugarcult, and Thursday. NOFX, Bad Religion, etc. are just the icing on the cake.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 Damn you bastards at NOFX not coming to Dallas! *shakes fist* The Disasters were supposed to be there but I never saw them.....sucks. That's the second time the Disasters were supposed to be somewhere where I'm at and weren't.....
Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 Did you see Tiger Army?
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 No. The bands I listed were the ones I watched. The Casualties, Bowling for Soup, Flogging Molly, The Vandals, Bouncing Souls, and Bad Religion. The rest of the time I was playing in puddles and walking around to all the booths.
Henry Spencer 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 I don't think I like any of those bands. I can tolerate Bad Religion, that's about it.
DCMaximo 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 I've seen both the Vandals and Bowling For Soup live and they were both great, Vandals especially. They're both better live than on record, although both have a worrying penchant for nudity.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2004 Thursday quits the tour like they day before they roll into Michigan, BAH! Also no Andrew WK or The Fags...they had my 2 favorite sets last year. Looking forward to the show though, want to see The Vandals live. And Bowling For Soup was much better than I thought they would be. The Used however...sucked ass. But fuck NOFX...I read an interview with them a little while ago in Alternative Press magazine. Pretty much the only reason they want to join the tour this year is so they can get their pollitical message out. FUCK THAT!
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2004 NOFX is also very picky about where they play. They only like to play in stadiums. Bah fuck them.....at least I got to see Bad Religion. Bad Religions set was as I remember: Supersonic American Jesus God's Love Epiphany Los Angeles is Burning Infected Sorrow That's as far as I remember. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2004 Bad Religion kicked all kinds of ass though. I'm going to see them again when they start there new tour in the fall.
CheesalaIsGood 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2004 I saw Bad Religion in Boston in 96. The show was tight! Great live act. Warped is coming round here for awhile if I remember correctly.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2004 Did your ears hurt after Flogging Molly? I saw them last year and they were easily one of the loudest bands I've ever seen.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2004 Nah they didn't hurt. They pretty much rocked the most aside from Bad Religion. But I always have a soft spot for The Casualties. Oh and Flogging Molly seemed really short b/c all of there songs are so freaking long. So I want to see them in full concert now.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2004 They played for about 90 minutes when I saw them. They closed out the Celtic Rock Stage at the Dublin Irish Festival last year. They totally jammed out "Black Friday Rule" for almost 10 minutes, and "Salty Dog" was almost 6 minutes, just about 3x it's normal length. The problem with Flogging as that they play alot of overseas shows and not all that much in the US, save for a few big tours and festivals. Their dates are very spread out when the do play the States.
Jack_Bauer 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2004 Flogging Molly fucking ROCKED when they played Gig on the Green in 2002. They only had 35 minutes on stage, but that was still long enough to make them one of the best bands that day.
Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 I'd just like to bump this thread to talk about what happened during Coheed and Cambria's set in Calgary yesterday. I'd never heard them before, but my friend convinced me to check them out. As soon as he came on, lead singer Claudio Sanchez was piss drunk and angry about a bottle being thrown at his guitar tech before the set. After downing pretty much an entire bottle of Jack Daniels, he taunted the crowd with insults and asked us to pelt him with bottles. After fulfilling his request for several minutes (much to the anger of his band mates who were hiding behind their amps to avoid the onslaught), and during which time Claudio was giggling and completely ruining songs by not even singing or forgetting parts, the guitarist of the band unhooked his guitar and walked off, ending the show early to great booing. Needless to say, this was the most bizarre if not most entertaining thing I've ever seen at a concert.
converge241 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 damn the warped tour! Thusday is not on the August 7th curiosa (the cure) show im going to to... they are playing a warped show instead

Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2004 Damnit. I want to see Coheed and Cambria but don't want to pay $30 to hang around some punk kids for a day. If you get the kind of show Angle got, well, then I'd say it's well worth it.
TheBostonStrangler 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2004 I'm going to the last show, which is the 10th Anniversary show they're doing in Foxboro. The lineup seems to be pretty impressive so far (I know the Dropkick Murphys said they were planning on playing it, as were Rancid and Pennywise), and there are supposed to be more showing up. Basically, I just wanna see what happens, so it's worth going with a friend or two.
fairtoflair7 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2004 Anyone see Yellowcard or Sugarcult there? Any good? Worth going too?
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2004 Anyone see Yellowcard or Sugarcult there? Any good? Worth going too? Well I hate YellowCard but the people that like the band said they enjoyed it.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2004 Yellowcard had the most energetic set last year...behind AWK of course
moral suasion 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2004 Did your ears hurt after Flogging Molly? I saw them last year and they were easily one of the loudest bands I've ever seen. I saw them Sunday and my ears are still ringing. They were the best show if the night. The stuff from thier new album sounded really good. Bad Religion was easily the second best show of the night. Graffin is one of the best performers I have ever seen. The shitty thing about warped tour is that you get abbreviated sets. Fuck most of those no name bands, gimme more Bad Religion and Flogging Molly!!!!
notJames 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2004 [old-timer mode] The first Warped Tour I went to in '96 was so awesome, because hardly anybody had heard of it at that point, so there weren't so many kids there. Mind you, there were plenty of fans, but you can tell they were real fans who dug the music and the bands and the feeling of community about it. And above all else, no ubiquitous corporate sponsorship. Anyway, there were two main outdoor stages which alternated sets, so you could check out one band while another was setting up on the other stage. Then, when the first band was done, the next band went on right after, so no useless waiting. Lots of great bands, like Fishbone, Rocket from the Crypt, Sense Field, Guttermouth, and others I can't remember. Pennywise was supposed to play, but their former bass player had died around the same time, so they cut out of the tour. There was also a third stage indoors for more local acts and street skate park set-up. The headliner for that stage was Shelter, which blew me away with their energy. Unfortunately, the next year was so crowded and overbearing with the corporate presence and psycho circus atmosphere that I swore off the Warped Tour forever. The lineup was great though, with Less Than Jake, the Descendents (my faves), the Bosstones, NOFX, Pennywise, Snapcase, etc. And I concur with all the Bad Religion love. I haven't seen them in a long time, but they always put on great shows. And instead of doing encores (which does nothing but feed the egos of the bands), they just play a longer non-stop set at the end. Very cool. packwingfn 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2004 FINAL BAND LIST ANNOUNCED FOR THE 10th ANNIVERSARY SHOW!!!! Agnostic Front Andrew WK Bad Religion Counterfeit Dropkick Murphy's Face to Face Finch Good Charlotte H2O Hot Rod Circuit Less Than Jake Lost City Angeles Midtown Morgan Heritage Murphy's Law New Found Glory Ozomatli Pennywise Rancid Recover Sick Of It All Something Corporate Strung Out The Explosion The Unseen The Vandals Unwritten Law Looks pretty good to me with a mix of everything....besides Bad...oops i mean Good Charlotte. Dropkick + Boston Crowd = Kickass!!! Main reason Im going is for Less Than Jake
TheBostonStrangler 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2004 Andrew W.K. is gonna be there? Dropkick Murphys + Andrew W.K. + Bad Religion + Rancid + Pennywise = BADASS. The only two bands I would have liked to see added are Green Day (who played this thing all the time) and Flogging Molly (would one more show have killed them?). Still, that's one hell of a bill.
