Which PPVs did you buy this year... and why?

Recommended Posts

Guest Dazed

I wrote out a huge post about which PPVs I'd ordered this year, and what influenced my decision to watch or not (despite the majority of PPVs being free here, I rarely watch them any more). Because my computer never crashes, I didn't need to save it, but then my computer crashed and I lost it.

If the topic takes off, I'll come back and rewrite the bloody thing.

So, which PPVs did you order this year, what influenced your decision to order, do you pay for the shows or get them free in your country / bittorrent etc? Talk to me. Oh, and do you order more or less than you used to?

i only ordered 3 and thats all i am ordering. Only 2 were really worth it.

Royal Rumble - great ME

No Way Out - eddie winning the title was the ONLY thing that made me get this

WMXX - great wrestlemania, not best ever (X-7 still holds that IMO) beniot and eddie at the end made it all the more worth it

WM XX

Sure, besides being considered the biggest PPV of all-time by WWE, I was really looking forward to the card, for Angle-Eddie, 3-Way, Taker-Kane, and Jericho-Christian. In the long run, both Angle-Eddie and Taker-Kane were disappointments, and the 3-Way and Handicap Match were surprisingly above average.

Summerslam

I probably ordered this out of habit more than anything, because Summerslams are usually good, but I was looking forward to it for Orton-Benoit and Angle-Eddie above anything else. It was actually disappointing in the long run. Orton's title reign meant nothing, making Benoit look weak as he was immediately sent down to the mid-card.

I did pay for front row Royal Rumble seats, and a friend taped No Way Out for me. Other than that, I've gotten all the other PPVs of this year on DVD. Technically, I ordered only two PPVs this year, which has been a record low for me. I used to order more than half the PPVs, but no longer, probably due to lack of interest.

I haven't ordered a PPV since Survivor Series '03. The last one I watched was Mania XX at a friend's house. I have absolutely no interest in ordering them, and probably never will again.

Mania and Slam, simply because I couldn't not order them. That and I really wanted to see Benoit and hell, Orton win the title.

I ordered the Royal Rumble, because it looked like it was going to be an awesome show (though outside from the great Rumble itself, the rest of the card disappointed).

I ordered Wrestlemania XX with some friends for the obvious reasons.

I ordered Judgment Day because I had been watching the car wreck nature of Smackdown for two months at that point and I felt as if I'd be missing something if I didn't see this one. It wasn't all that bad, as it did entertain me in the very least.

I ordered Bad Blood with a different group of friends, because we had ordered it last year and hated the show, so we wanted to see WWE do a better job this year. The HIAC main event was an absolute bore, but Orton/Benjamin and Benoit/Kane made me a happy wrestling fan.

Finally, a friend and I ordered Vengeance, mostly because he wanted to see it so badly. I enjoyed the show, but I felt as if it was rather dull in general.

I also bought No Way Out, Backlash, and the Great American Bash on DVD. I keep almost buying Summerslam, but I change my mind everytime. I'm probably going to buy No Mercy when it comes out next week.

The WMXX Webcast. It was worth it. In my area I am pretty much forced to order the webcasts if I want to see them live, since I don't want to pay tons of money to get satellite, and my provider doesn't have digital cable (and there are no other providers close by)

But the webcast was worth it.

Rumble and Mania. Partly because they're Rumble and Mania, partly because Benoit was on the rise.

I haven't bought anything after that because nothing made me need to buy them.

Rumble, No Way Out, and Mania, since Direct TV had a deal where you could order all three as a package for $100.

I went to bars and saw: Rumble (Best Rumble match ever) and Mania (best Mania main event ever).

My friends and I ordered Bad Blood, but the fucking shitty Comcast digital receiver broke and we didnt get to see it, but got a refund.

We ordered Vengeance, which was a terrible show.

We ordered SummerSlam, which was an even worse show.

Notice a trend? We don't order them anymore.

I just download them the next day off of wrestlingmedia or Limewire for free now.

I've ordered:

-Royal Rumble (Just because I love the Royal Rumble Match and make it a point to order the Rumble every year)

-No Way Out (I wanted to see Eddie Guererro win the WWE Championship)

-WrestleMania XX: Where It All Begins...Again (Because it was WrestleMania, and I always order WrestleMania no matter what)

-SummerSlam (I always order SummerSlam. It's out of habit really. Plus, I wanted to see Randy Orton win the World Championship)

I wanted to order Backlash to see the Triple Threat Match, but since I spent $50.00 the previous month on WM XX, then that was out of the equation. I had no interest in buying Judgment Day. None whatsoever. I wanted to order Bad Blood, but I was moving to Miami two days after the show, so because of that, my mom used all the money for the move, and nothing was left to order the pay-per-view. Had no interest in Great American Bash. And even if I did, I had no cable because I had just recently moved to Miami. Had no interest in ordering Vengeance or Unforgiven. I wanted to order No Mercy and Taboo Tuesday (Out of curiousity), but again, no money. I'll probalby order Survivor Series, but I doubt I'll order Armageddon.

I purchased none this year, but I attended:

Royal Rumble

WrestleMania XX

SummerSlam

and

No Mercy

All but SummerSlam were local (I'm between NYC and Philly)

and my friend and I got the SummerSlam tix and decided to hang out in Toronto for the weekend around the show.

I put in a 10 spot and watched WMXX at my bro-in-law's house. It was the first PPV I ever saw, and overall, it wasn't bad. Next time, though, I think I'll go to a sports bar or something, and just pay the $5 cover charge to see a PPV.

with the UK PPV situation, we've only had to pay for;

Royal Rumble - which i didn't buy cos i was away at the time and didnt want to put down 15 notes for a show which i could only get to watch 2 weeks later when i would already know spoilers.

Backlash - bought it, Foley convinced me with a promo he cut a week or 2 before the PPV on RAW. he went real psychotic and i knew he'd be pulling out some sick shit in the Orton match.

Great American Bash - didn't buy cos there were exactly zero matches i was interested in.

Vengeance - bought it cos i like HHH and i really like Benoit and wanted to see their first singles match in nearly 4 years.

Survivor Series - unsure as to whether or not to buy. leaning towards not, but if we get an Evolution and another heel v. Orton, Benoit, 2 other faces elimination match then i probably will.

Armageddon - don't even know which show is putting this PPV on, therefore no idea whether i'll get it or not.

I had this streak of ordering PPVs every month for a long time.... it carried over to this year:

Royal Rumble (Sir Benoit's Rumble win)

No Way Out (Eddie, come on!)

Wrestlemania XX (Triple Threat and Eddie/Angle and Show/Cena... and Goldberg/Lesnar)

Backlash (THE FINAL ENCOUNTER... and Edge's return)

Judgment Day (I have no idea why I ordered it... to see Eddie I suppose)

Badd Blood (I wanted to see the HIAC)

after that I stopped watching wrestling due to my being tired of HHH and Angle.

Then I returned for ONE NIGHT ONLY, to watch Unforgiven as I wanted to see how the hell they would give away their Mania main event on a regular PPV. The event reaffirmed my belief that it's just not worth it anymore. The next time I order a PPV, it will be because of a promised huge push for a guy I like or HIAC or if a potential ***** match is looming.

The only PPVs I purchased this year were No Way Out and Backlash. No Way Out I bought just so I could see Eddie finally win the title. The Foley vs Orton feud is what sold Backlash to me. I was fully convinced that I was going to see someone die that night. I also shelled out close to 200 dolars for a pair of seats to Vengeance.

In the UK also so out of the ones I would of had to have bought I purchased:

Royal Rumble - I have a soft spot for the rumble match and the rest of the card looked awesome in theory.

Backlash - Wanted to see the triple threat re-match and Foley vs Orton as Foley was my favourite wrestler when I first started watching.

Vengeance - Just bought this one out of habit really, as there is only a few in the UK we have to pay for I'll buy them anyway even if the card isn't that spectacular.

Great American Bash - Intended to watch this one due to the reson above, but ment to sleep until about 12:30 then get up and watch it, but slept right through. Usually my body won't let me sleep if theres a ppv on, but i guess my subconscious knew i didn't care about this one. This was the first PPV I missed in 5 years.

-Royal Rumble: The Rumble, of course, and the fact that Benoit had a legitimate chance at winning it was enough for me.

-No Way Out: I wanted to see Eddie win the belt, and I knew that he and Brock would have a great match

-Wrestle-Mania XX: It's Wrestle-Mania, plus the card had some pretty good/interesting matches on it.

-Backlash: I wanted to see if Foley could pull a good match out of Orton, plus the main event was pretty good as well.

After that, due to cable company problems, lack of funds and the terrible product, I stopped ordering PPV's. I had a long streak going too, dating back to 2000. I did go to BitTorrent for SummerSlam, and will continue to do so if the PPV has good matches on it.

I attended the Rumble.

I ordered No Way Out because 1) I had never seen an SD PPV before (and every show I missed was ranted and raved about on the net) and 2) Eddie's title win.

I ordered Mania because it's Mania. Plus I really wanted to see Eddie/Kurt, Taker's return and Benoit's title win.

Summerslam and the rest of the Raw PPVs...more habit than anything.

Well, I didn't buy any of them. The PPV's that I've seen this year I watched at a friends house, so it didn't cost me anything.

I watched the Royal Rumble & Wrestlemania. I always watch those. Every year, regardless of how shitty the current product is.

I also watched No Way Out because I saw the Brock/Eddy match live.

I'm pretty sure that I watched Backlash too...but to be honest, I don't remember.

So, I watched all PPV's from January through April and then stopped. At least those are the ones that I can remember. I probably saw SummerSlam too...but I don't remember it.

Royal Rumble: I almost always get the Rumble. Got the webcast.

Backlash: Couldn't order Wrestlemania since I was out of town then. This show looked pretty decent though, I got the webcast with a few other people and only paid three or four dollars.

Judgment Day: Shitty show, but I had nothing else to do and only had to pay a few dollars.

Summerslam: Probably shouldn't have gotten this show. Paid the full price and I don't think it was worth it.

Royal Rumble: It's a tradition to order, and haven't missed the PPV since 1990.

No Way Out: Bought the replay after hearing Eddie Guerrero won. Thats the main reason.

Wrestlemania XX: See Royal Rumble.

Backlash: The Main Event was the same, but still had potential, and the under-card wasn't too bad.

Bad Blood: I got paid by someone else to order it.

Summerslam: Ditto Rumble/WM, haven't missed since 1989.

Unforgiven: Same as Bad blood.

Ones Missed: Judgment Day, Great American Bash, No Mercy. Nothing at all interesting enough to warrant spending $35 each.

As another Brit...

Royal Rumble - Bought. Pretty much bought only for the Rumble.

Backlash - Bought, with Orton/Foley the main reason.

Great American Bash - Didn't order as it looked horrible. I contemplated getting the DVD but judging from all the net reports, it'd be a waste of money.

Vengeance - Bought.

No Mercy- Didn't have the channel it was on (SS2), but I've got the DVD on pre-order so, technically, I'm buying it.

I ordered Wmxx and summerslam this year

wm for tradition and summerslam-well i dont knwo why actually just cuz its summerslam I guess, and Ihad a 10 buck off a ppv event coupon from my digital cable company

I watched NWO at a friends house

I bought backlash 04 on dvd last month, ok show, foley-orton was the best match imo and the main event was not close to being as good as the wm20 one

this year was the first year I missed the rumble since 99 (ordered 99-02 and watched 03 with a freind)

probably wont buy one until maybe rumble, but these ppv prices are getting out of hand, might as well wait for the dvds since they come out only about a month later and cost up to 20 bucks less depending where you buy them at
