DIMEBAG DARRELL SHOT ONSTAGE IN COLUMBUS, OH

Recommended Posts

I can't wait for the top of hour MTV news segment when the feature some big story like, "Rapper 50 cent gives a "hard look" to fellow rapper at the buffet line" or some other nonsense like that.

This is not cool. Dimebag may not have been the best but he was one of my favorites. RIP to all the innocent people that were killed and I wish a speedy recovery to those that were wounded.

i heard about this on the radio

the hosts made a lot of jokes like "guess they arent making their next date on the tour" and jokes about the "save me" song saying it didnt work

classy!!

ive been to thousands of shows and always kinda thought about how lax the security can be for something like this to happen..not as bad as this but just in general about getting a gun in

converge, did you hear it on WEEI? B/c Dennis & Callahan were making jokes about it ...

I'm not sure if MTV will cover this at all, but all the 'real' news outlets (ones like the Today Show, and the equivalent that are on the other networks) did so I'm guessing MTV, in their eternal quest to be viewed as legitimate will have to at least MENTION it. (of course, having said that, the same time Matt Lauer and Katie Courik were talking about it MTV was playing a Lil Jon video. So, maybe they WON'T cover it at all.)

I was never a huge fan of Damageplan or Pantera musically, but I've never heard a bad word about them as people.

someone wishes this had happened to Papa Roach/Linkin Park/Fred Durst.

Count me in that group

I've only been a moderate fan of Pantera over the years, but the news still sucks...

Now the question is: What does this do for future concerts (of any sort)?

This is just insane. I cannot believe this has happened. I'm hoping I didn't really just wake up and I'm still dreaming.

Never in 43 million years would I have expected this.

I won't lie and say Pantera was one of my favorite bands, but I have been a fan of theirs since probably 1996-97 and I still listen to their music to this day, especially when I need to vent my anger and frustration. In fact, I popped in Vulgar Display of Power after I read Tugboat's list of favorite albums.

Darrell was one of my favorite hard rock/heavy metal guitarists of the last decade because he played balls-out and had an attitude to match. I've even had 2 pictures of him on my "Guitar Heroes" wall in my bedroom at my old house. I obviously don't kow him personally, but I'm sure that he has many friends and family who will be devastated by the loss, not to mention thousands of Damageplan fans and other Pantera fans who are mroe devoted than myself.

This is a sad day. It's just so fucked up... I truly hope that Darrell can get his hands on the dude and have his justic in the afterlife.

This all may sound disjointed, but right now I'm only halfway awake and very shocked. I hope this doesn't sound disrespectful, but I'm gonna go burn one for Dimebag Darrell and put on one of my Pantera CDs.

Rumor is, the shooter came in through a backdoor/stage door (by the way he supposedly came from side stage, rather than jumping up from the crowd), so I would hope it'd mean they'd at least start posting security at all access doors. It's easy to judge in hindsight, but it seems hugely stupid to have an open stage door without anybody keeping an eye on it.

I got into Pantera about 2 years ago and quickly bought all of their albums, becoming a very dedicated fan. I've been listening to them even up until now. Hell, I popped in Far Beyond Driven just a few days ago.

Dimebag Darrell is one of my idols as far as guitarists goes, and I can't believe this happened.

Fuck that guy, I'm just glad he wasn't able to hurt too many people.

I'm pissed off.

This is still sad and shocking, although I don't care for the band too much. Still, this makes me wonder about the shitty state of the club, the crappy security, and what kind of psycho would do something like this. Although I think most in this thread are assholes if they would have wished a death like this on someone else. I don't care for Pantera or Dimebag or whatever his new band is, but I'm not gonna be happy over his death, especially if I would be sad if someone that I did enjoy was killed like this. But I digress, for all of you talking about Phil Anselmo backtracking and such, can someone give me the long version of what is going(I guess now has gone) on between those two and what Phil would have to take back now, also, how would he react now? Matt Young I'm looking in your direction.

It's weird but any time I get the urge to go to a club show something like this or the Great White fiasco happens.

I know Pantera broke up, but don't recall the story behind that. What happened?

It was kind of a disaster waiting to happen. Like I said earlier the college students that go to these shows act like complete savages. It was only a matter of time before they stopped rioting on campus and stabbing people in the crowds and attack bandmembers. There's a reason I don't go to concerts in Columbus.

Biggest loss to music since the death of Kurt Cobain.

No disrespect to his death, but you've got to be kidding.

Oviously this is more tragic.... The point is Cobain was the last time I remember someone musically significant to me dying... oviously there was Dave Williams from Drowning Pool but they weren't paticularly legendary. I had the privaliage of seeing Damageplan in the summer... they played a fucking monumental set including a cover of walk. It'll be interesting to see if Phil will comment after he said Darrell deserved to be beaten in an interview yesterday.

RIP our brother in metal.

Cobain's death wasn't very tragic because he died at his own hands. Well, it was tragic that his mind was diseased, but you're right, now nearly as tragic as when life is stolen from someone. This event will be a turning point as at ALL SHOWS ('ve never been searched once) there'll be pat downs and searches for weapons before entering.

Whether he died at his own hand is a debate for another thread.....

In the UK we're usually body checked on entrance to shows, you can take some very well concealed weed in but knives are always confenscated(sp?) I've always wondered about the possibility of this occuring, I always figured it would be someone like Manson or Dani Filth being shot by a christian fundementalist.

Which obviously shows that you don't know what you're talking about. I've been to a few shows in Columbus, most of them at the Newport, and never seen any violence beyond the norm for a metal show. Take into account this is at shows featuring bands a lot more crazy than this one, with crazier people.

If you want to make a blanket statement about these shows, you might actually want to see one, although you're pretty apt at snapping a judgment from the nebula of ignorance. If you went and saw Megadeth this one time and someone pushed your girlfriend (yeah right) and you were a pussy and were scared to go back, then say that, but don't come off with "Oh this was BOUND to happen, blah blah blah," when nothing like it ever has. Sure the black metal wars were more brutal, but at least they were personal, and not some random nutbar climbing up on stage to pump a musician full of slugs. What if this were Axl Rose or Neil Diamond or something? Could've been, just as easily.

I think an incident like this was bound to happen in any genre of music, not just metal. The lack of security and easy accesibility to the musicians has always made it feasible for one to do this if they had wanted.
