I know that Linkin Park gets no love around here but get past that for a moment...has anybody else seen all these 'tribute" cds at Best Buy...they have them for everybody now from 311, LP, Incubus not to mention all of the guitar tributes..anyways I picked the LP one up knowing full well that there would be no actual LP members on the cd but hoping the "remixes" and covers that they promised were so great on the package would be decent but to my displeasure it may have been the worst cd ever purchased....this band that does the covers are litterally destroying this music to the point of comedy...is this crap parody or what?...has anyone else wasted money on one of these tribute cds?....are there any good ones...I bought the DMB "Breathe" bluegrass tribute a few years ago and that was decent...the guitar tribute to Tool was at least interesting but this was terrible!

The local sam goody has in the Green Day section a "Tribute to Green Day" with a generic sticker that says "stock with Green Day."

It has no info on who actually does the tribute, but it looks pretty low budget.

It IS only 9.99 but I don't think I trust it.

I also own a cd with music inspired by the Final Fantasy series. Now that is a pretty nice CD.

They have the Final Fantasy VI theme with a tremendous amount of bass. It is window vibrating.

Yes, I admit to "jamming" out to that

I own A Punk Tribute to Metallica, Post Mortem: The Tribute to Slayer, and Metallic Assault: A Tribute to Metallica. The Slayer tribute ain't that bad at all, and Metallic Assault has a few good tracks on it (it's actually a mix-n-match of various metal artists together for a bunch of Metallica songs), most notably "Unforgiven" (with the singer from King's X bringing the awesomeness). Punk Tribute blows ass, though, save for Anti-Government's cover of "I Disappear."

Don't risk it my friend...I think that all of the string tributes are for the most part gonna be okay in the novelty sense...not something you'd listen to a lot but maybe a few times...but this crap where other people are performing the actual songs with their own screwed up twist on it is garbage..I mean these guys that made this(and the AC/DC tribute my friend was equally dumb enough to buy) are just plain terrible...I'm gonna email both the label that produced it and Linkin Park so that they may feel my pain....as a rule every place that sells CDs should allow you to listen before you buy....

There's a few alright ones out there. The tribute to the Pixies has one or two interesting covers... and tributes like the Ramones one where there's plenty of known artists ae always fun to listen to now and again, but for the most part, they're pretty shitty.

Oh, but one worth picking up --

I'm Your Fan: A Tribute to Leonard Cohen

Oh, and the Hedwig and the Angry Inch thing with a bunch of indie artists on it has some really good tunes too.

There's a Smiths tribute album called "How Soon Is Now: A tribute To The Smiths" that came out this year which is decent in places. Million Dead do a great job with "Girlfirend In A Coma", thisGirl have a decent stab at "Shoplifters Of The World Unite" and the Beautiful Mistake cover of "Cemetery Gates" is splendid. However, Hundred Reasons do the wankiest cover of "How Soon Is Now" I've ever heard

There is a Tribute to G-Unit album. I shit you not.

There's a fairly old one out there for Fleetwood Mac. It's something like Legacy: A Tribute To Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, and it's fairly decent.

It has an Elton John version of Don't Stop that I like a lot.

I accidentally bought a Metallica tribute album, thinking that it was just a Metallica compilation album (like the 80 million Aerosmith ones that are out now)

Which one? The Blackest Album, with the industrial bands covering Metallica songs?

IMO, the best tribute album ever is "Color Theory Present Depeche Mode" A tribute that the band themselves recommed. Basically, it's synth pop/nu electro pop group Color Theory covering Depeche mode songs, and doing a good job of it.

The other best tribute album ever is Senor Coconut Y Su Conjunto's " El Baile Aleman" Basically, it's IDM/experimental techno king Atom Heart doing a campy latin pop covers of Kraftwerk songs. Suprisingly, it's incredibly infectious.

The final best tribute album ever is Easy Star All Stars "Dun Side of the Moon", a Dub reggae tribute to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" Oh, and it kicks serious ass.
