F: Grant Hill

West

G: Tracy McGrady

Kudos to Grant Hill after all those years of injuries to work his way back into an All-Star. When I feel like it, I'll come up with my reserves.

No surprises whatsoever. Damn. Those guys are all deserving, though. Carter's debatable, but he's been doing very well with New Jersey.

I guess my repeated voting for Andre Iguodala and a lot of Bulls and T'Wolves players didn't do much good. I did pick Garnett and Hill, at least.

Kobe will definitely be back by then.

The starters have been decided for a month now, the reserves will be real interesting though. My picks:

West:

Steve Nash

Mike Bibby

Dirk Nowitzki

Ray Allen

Shawn Marion

Chris Webber

Amare Stoudemire

East:

Jermaine O'Neal

Gilbert Arenas

Zydrunas Ilgauskas

Paul Pierce

Jamaal Tinsley

Dwayne Wade

Larry Hughes (*injured - replaced by Steve Francis)

snubs:

west: AK-47 (injured for too long), Brad Miller, Rashard Lewis, Elton Brand, Manu Ginobili

east: Kirk Hinrich, Stephon Marbury, Antoine Walker

Squads are still 12 men, right? They need to expand them by another spot IMO

The rosters are what i and probably most everyone else expected. I'd have liked Nash to be starting, though with Kobe's injury he might still get that chance. As for a vague guess at the reserves, though i'm certain i'll forget at least one really obvious player:

West-

Steve Nash

Ray Allen

Mike Bibby (?, can't think of another guard)

Amare Stoudemire

Dirk Nowitzki

Shawn Marion

Brad Miller

East-

Dwayne Wade

Steve Francis

Larry Hughes (if healthy, Stephon Marbury or Gilbert Arenas if not)

Antawn Jamison

Jermaine O'Neal (even with the missed time he'll probably be there, unless the whole brawl/suspension thing gets him blacklisted)

Paul Pierce

Ben Wallace

I don't really follow the NBA until the playoffs - but the fact that Grant Hill is back in the All Star game is great for sports.

WEST Reserves

- Steve Nash (Shoulda been a starter, take out T-Mac)

- Ray Allen. (Starter. Out goes Kobe.)

- Brad Miller (A lot more important than Webber at this point, they can win without Chris, they can't without Miller)

- Dirk Nowitzki

- Manu Ginobli

- Shawn Marion

- Amare Stoudemire

East Reserves

- Dwyane Wade

- Gilbert Arenas

- Jermaine O' Neal

- Ben Wallace

- Kirk Hinrich

- Antwan Jamison

- Emekah Okafor (Hey, you always gotta have one "What the hell is he doing there?" big man on the east, and Okafor is the closest to being worthy)

Mike Bibby, Steve Francis, Peja and a shitload more guys have an arguement on the west side, and 1 or 2 on the east, but I'm good with that line up of reserves. Get Vince Carter off that fucking starting line up though.

I can't pick seven players for the East so I'll ignore it.

Now my West reserves

Manu Ginobili

Steve Nash

Ray Allen

Amare Stoudamire

Elton Brand

Dirk Nowinski

Shawn Marion

You can pick your seven reserves for both conferences at ESPN.com and oddly enough the seven I picked are the leading vote getters.

EDIT: Noticed that Chris Webber was left out as one of the choices at ESPN.com which is just wrong,. Even though he isn't one of my picks.

You could make a damn good all-star team out of players that will be left out of the actual West team.

Manu Ginobili, Peja Stojakovic, Rashard Lewis, Elton Brand, Andrei Kirilenko, Zach Randolph, Chris Webber, Pau Gasol and probably a few others. A guy like Brand will probably never make an all-star team out West, not with KG, Duncan, Stoudamire, Dirk, Marion, a healthy Kirilenko and probably Webber ahead of him among forwards, if he played in the Eastern Conference he'd be the first guy chosen.

I think Manu will get the nod from coaches, Rashard Lewis has a real chance too.

I'm hoping they give Brand a pity nomination some day. He deserves it.

Eh, decent All-Star starting lineup. I don't know if I'd put Ming in there though, he's had a disappointing season and T-Mac didn't breakout until midseason. I would have definitely put Nash ahead of McGrady. And I don't know about Vince Carter being in there, either.

Gilbert Arenas is a must pick, and Larry Hughes should really get a spot to honor his career first half (he's injured anyway, so you name him an all star and can replace him with someone else who can play, no harm, benefits the most people).

Eric Dampier > Yao Ming. He should be starting. Damp is the only center in the league right now that can handle Shaq underneath the basket. Yao is too soft still.

On Ben Wallace, probably not, but who else ya gonna plug in there? I just went with him out of a complete lack of any other big men in the East.

Yao is soft as can be, but he's outplayed or played up to Shaq's level the last few times they've met up. Of course, every other game is hit or miss, but he gives Shaq as much trouble as anyone can. Dampier is nowhere near an All-Star level player.

I hope Manu Ginobili gets a reserve spot because he has really been playing great this year. He would be a perfect fit in the All Star game too cause its nothing more than a bunch of showboating and whatnot. Steve Nash not being a starting is also dissapointing cause he is literally the whole reason the Suns are where they are right now. He deserves to be on the team also.

I know it's already been mentioned about eight times, but how can the consensus midseason MVP not be starting in the All-Star game? I know a lot of it's name value, but how can anyone who's been following basketball at all this year have McGrady plugged in over Nash at the point out West?

Amare Stoudimire has started every game at Center this year....there is who your starting center should be in the West.

I know Nash is having a great year and all, but its silly to suggest he's a better player than Tracy McGrady right now.

I'm not suprised about Hill...he was a regular all-star in Detroit, and even his first year at Orlando I think. I didn't like him for a while cause it didn't seem like the Pistons got anything for him...but a few years with Ben Wallace and a championship later, all is forgiven.

Yup. Stoudimire > Yao in every way.

Also it's too bad AK-47 has been (is?) hurt for so long, despite looking like some kind of mutant the guy can play some ball

Its kind of funny how no Pistons are mentioned for the game, except for bringing up the fact that Ben Wallace SHOULDN'T be in the game. Its clear that ALL-STAR doesn't mean best PLAYER, but infact best showboat and ballhog... apparently if you're a team player you aren't deserved enough to be recognized as an all-star.

They disagree. And honestly I would have left T-Mac and Kobe on there but did want to start the argument about them not being team players even though they are.

There are no pistons there because the pistons haven't really been shit this year and a utter disappointment while not having a single reason to point to. The Pacers aren't as good for a reason. New Orleans...a reason. The Pistons have sucked for no other reason outside of sucking.

I retract my statement about Damp playing center for the West and putting in Amare instead. Hell, Shaq even gave him the "younger me" comment that's not too off from the mark after the Suns beat the Heat a couple weeks ago. Amare is sick for someone his size.
