Biggest Non-Surprises

Recommended Posts

This would be a spin-off of the thread discussing the biggest surprises in wrestling. What events were supposed to be shocking, but no one was surprised one bit by them?

Tazz debuting at the Royal Rumble 2000

Any of Ric Flair's fake face turns before he joins back up with HHH

Flair showing up on Raw after the day after the Invasion angle was finished. Big shock, the show was in Charlotte so it was not very surprising.

Eddie turning on Rey earlier this year.

Actually, a guy at work and I were calling for it to be a swerve, and have Rey turn on Eddie, although I wasn't surprised when Eddie made the turn.

Yeah, Flair's phony face turns with Orton and Dave were by no means "shockers"

They could have at least made the suspense last longer than a week.

Chris Jericho jobbing at Wrestlemania XVIII.

Chris Jericho jobbing at Wrestlemania XIX.

Chris Jericho jobbing at Wrestlemania XX.

Chris Jericho jobbing at Wrestlemania XXI.

I'm beginning to see a pattern here.

Austin's heel turn at WMX7 and even more so his joining the Alliance at Invasion.

Although the timing surprised me a bit, I'll co-sign on the HBK turn from Monday because the fact that they've been teaming so much had me thinking that it'd only be a matter of time before Shawn turned on him...to the point that I was even looking for the Superkick when Hogan hit off the ropes for the leg drop.

About 95% of the World Title changes since 2000.

Ric Flair regaining the title a week to a month after losing it. After the first two times that became my indication of what was wrong with NWA/WCW back in the day.

Hogan retaining the title after about two years into his title reign. Of course he was WWF's then cash cow so it made sense to keep the title on him, but five years plus was a little bit much.

Oh yeah, the biggest non-suprise ever--

the brand split.

That was discussed months and months before it actually happened.

That's because it kept getting pushed back. One of the first dates it was meant to happen was January 7th of 2002, but that turned into the night Hunter came back, and after that they kept putting the date back, and by the time it happened, everyone had been talking about it for months, and the surprise element was long gone.
