What's Up with the Main Page?

I know I can't be alone in my disappointment that there hasn't been any wrestling-related content on the main page in a month. Yeah, I know the product generally sucks right now, and you guys who write for the board have lives outside of typing up free articles for the unpaying masses, but surely there's something we can do about this.

 

I'm one of those guys that found this site because of Dames and Dr. Tom's various reports were being posted on other sites, and I used them to find my way here. Later, JHawk's weekly recaps kept me coming back, Truitt's shoot recaps were fantastic, and Spoon's TE3 material was comedic gold. Hell, I still remember reading Razor's Heat recaps (including the parody where Shiavone become a WWE announcer) during Raven's run on that show.

 

Maybe its time to find some new writers for the main page? I mean, don't get me wrong, I appreciate Flagg letting me know where to get cheap DVDs at, but I wish there was more. And not just wrestling stuff, either.

 

Bob Barron's SNL recaps wouldn't be too out of place up there, would they? Or even HTQ's blog entries as a regular column? Surely there's plenty of folks here who'd be willing to pick up the slack if asked.

The only reason the main page is still there is because there is some type of demand for it somehow. It got 17,000+ unique visitors last month, and nearly 100,000 page views. That some pretty decent traffic.

hitting f5 doesn't change the unique visitor count. That number is based on individual users. If you visit the site daily, you still count only as +1 a month to that number.

I've actually got to take some of the blame here.

 

I underwent surgery about two months or so ago, so I took some time off and never informed anybody about it.

 

I'll be returning to writing this week, so there will at least be something else new every week.

I figured you had taken your baseball columns to a site where you could get more traffic and publicity. And I certainly wouldn't blame anyone for doing that, since writing (especially writing without compensation) is an inherently selfish exercise.

Ah, the glory days, when we had 7-10 new articles a week, and several writers getting more pub for both themselves and TSM by being cross-posted at other sites. Unfortunately, the business has lost popularity since then, we've lost a ton of writers, and the aborted mainpage revamp of last summer pretty much killed dead the chances of starting it up again. I suppose we could hire more writers, but then we'd be doing the same "wrestling with a splash of pop culture" that infinite other sites are doing. Yawn. If we're going to seriously relaunch the mainpage, it has to be as something different.

 

Also, I used to screen the potential writers and do a lot of editing work. I don't really have the time to do that anymore, and there aren't many people I'd trust to do it in my place.

I've got oodles of time and am also (I think, I haven't checked in a loooooong time) still set up to write for the main page. I don't even need to choose my own format/subject material. Tell me what to write about if you want.
