Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 Record of the Year: "Hollaback Girl," Gwen Stefani um...they do know that's the most obnoxious song of all time, right? The grammys suck, but it's nice to see Death Cab get a nomination

Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 Gwen Stefani's album getting nominated for anything completely negates the credibility of the Grammies and all of its 48 year history...
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 The Grammys only have credibility as a measure of quality at the rare moment when the most popular music is also the best. This hasn't happened a lot.
cbacon 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 But it's a bit closer this year. Nice to see The Arcade Fire and Death Cab up there. In fact the entire Alternative Album category is pretty solid.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 How To Dismantle sucked but I'd still give it to them over Late Registration

The grammys suck, but it's nice to see Death Cab get a nomination No. The most obnoxious song of all time is "Laffy Taffy". That is all.

Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 The alternative category is usually pretty good. You usually get Beck, Radiohead, or Bjork, and a few others. Album of the Year is always funny though, because who the hell notices when Paul McCartney puts out an album except for the Grammy committee.

Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2005 As always, the people at the Grammys confuse "heavy music" with "metal." Best Metal Peformance: Ministry - "The Great Satan" Mudvayne - "Determined" Rammstein - "Mein Teil" Shadows Fall - "What Drives The Weak" Slipknot - "Before I Forget" Ministry is, and always has been, industrial. Mudvayne is hard rock. Rammstein is borderline industrial, borderline metal, so I can see them being nominated. Shadows Fall is metalcore, a subcategory of metal, so I definitely see them here. Slipknot is shitty radio-friendly hard rock, and always has been. ...so, of course, Slipknot is going to win this...so it won't be the first time a non-metal band wins the Best Metal Grammy. Meh...I shouldn't care about this shit anymore, but it still sorta bugs me that the people to nominate songs usually don't even listen to the category of music they're nominating artists in. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2005 How To Dismantle sucked but I'd still give it to them over Late Registration I'm not 100% on this but if the board voted on a "Banned from ___ folder" you'd probably get Music in a walk.

Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2005 It SHOULDN'T annoy be, but it does seeing a band like Fall Out Boy up for best new artists...for their second major release.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2005 Emancipation of Mimi is the best of those albums. That is a damn good R&b album. Kanye comes in second. But yeah, there had to be better albums than that this year.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2005 I know this has been asked before, but what the hell is the difference between best record and best song? Record goes to everyone involved in producing the song--performer, engineer, writer, etc. Song just goes to the songwriter for lyrics and music as writ. Ripper 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2005 Best Hip Hop album SHOULD be a two album race between Be and The Minstrel Show but Little Brother gets screwed.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2005 Songs from '04, bands that have been around for years are 'new artists', and Gwen Stefani's coathanger abortion of a solo record nominated repeatedly...sounds like a good Grammys to me.

The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2005 My Humps is the worst That song kinda died after Fergie pissed herself. Moby didn't get any nominations for Hotel this year, and when that's compared to the nominations other really horrible albums and songs got, it shows you just how bad and flat Hotel was. And I really like Moby (well, everything else).
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2005 How To Dismantle sucked but I'd still give it to them over Late Registration I'm not 100% on this but if the board voted on a "Banned from ___ folder" you'd probably get Music in a walk. I'm not gonna be the nerdy white guy who feigns an interest in hip-hop to prove how eclectic and diverse my music tastes are. Sorry. It's just not a very good album. Even the good reviews kind of briefly gloss over the fact that he's not very good at what he does
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2005 Late Registration is great. I mean, you haven't even heard it, have you? Your lack of interest in hip-hop probably makes it not worthwhile for you, though. Still, that U2 album is ass. Maybe talk about Mariah or something.

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2005 Late Registration is great. I mean, you haven't even heard it, have you? Your lack of interest in hip-hop probably makes it not worthwhile for you, though. Still, that U2 album is ass. Maybe talk about Mariah or something. I tried to listen to it, and I really didn't see the appeal. I don't know what constitutes a classic rap album, though. I can't tell good production from bad production. I can tell that Kanye West isn't the best rapper, and he seems to say UNH! a lot. As I mentioned, even the reviews that are glowing make note of the fact that he's in over his head. It feels like he was deemed The Next Big Thing In Rap because somebody had to be. Just explain to me why this deserves its praise.
