That hotel room scene between Ali Larter's character and the Congressman was hellishly drawn out and boring, same with her and her kid. It was when her "twin" came out to play that she became anything close to interesting.

And indeed, Future Hiro does kick ass.

See, while I agree that the hotel scene was way too drawn out & boring, I thought it accomplished what it set out to accomplish: showed that she was a good person who - really - was incapable of doing something so 'bad' & showed that he was a bad guy without much of a conscience. I'm presuming the struggle between her two sides ("good-vs-evil") will play out throughout the season and that his evil politician persona will do the same. Boring, but a good foundation setter.

Having said that, I really liked last night's episode ... maybe my favorite since the premiere. Hiro & his buddy in Vegas was awesome, up-to-and including their Rain Man "reference" (for lack of a better word) and when Hiro takes the punch in his face when his friend tells the goon about his friend's "powers". The cheerleader subplot - other than the horrible stuff with her father - gets cooler and cooler each week. The fact that the other girl was raped by the QB was lame & predictable, but if that's what it took to get Claire (that is her name, isn't it??) to up & kill him, it was a necessary evil. The scenes with the artist painting the future? Tremendous.

And most importantly: Future Hiro + "Save the cheerleader ... save the world" = an awesome last few minutes.

The good definitely dwarfed the bad again last night ... a very solid episode.

I agree with niskie, except that I'm still not sure about Ali Larter's powers. So, her alter ego becomes fairly strong and a slut? That's what she's got?

I don't think that the Cheerleader killed the QB in the wreck based on the previews. I think that's what is going to cause her to be exposed too.

Future Hiro was bad ass indeed. As is the artist. I still love that he has to get high to paint the future, and choses to do so over everything else. Adds a little more depth to his character.

Interesting/weird stuff that I noticed...

Hiro and Buddy-san gambled in the Montecito - the fictional casino in NBC's "Las Vegas".

Lindleman's Asian underling looked a lot like "W" from Good Eats. I'm still trying to find out if it actually was her - probably not, since she - W, that is - is actually a chiropractor. Then again, Nitro Girl Spice was a chiropractor... mmm, Spice...

um, where was I?

Yeah, anyways, didn't really care for the Very Special Episode feel for the Odessa scenes, but it served it's purpose showing that Claire isn't all goody-goody.

We've been trying to figure out Niki's power over at Inside Pulse, and I'm of the opinion that she's basically Typhoid Mary. Another guy posits that she's like Hulk, without the turning 7'7", 1500lbs and green/grey. Any thoughts here?

What's the influence behind future Hiro's garb? Haven't been able to place it, but it looks very anime-ish.

My guess is that Niki's the proverbial "dancer/stripper/fill in blank" with a heart of gold who is only doing it to makes ends meet for her son. Obviously, she doesn't enjoy what she does but her alter ego however has no morality. She could have killed those two guys at her house without gutting them like fish, but chose to make it as gruesome as possible (I'm guessing she gets off on taking men twice her size down). Without any moral code to deal with, she chose to beat the guy in the elevator and then go fuck Petrelli just because she could. I don't know if the alter ego has super strength or is just completely heartless. I guess the best thing I could go with is the little angel/devil on the shoulder type thing we used to see in the old cartoons. Mirror Niki is depraved and ruthless, the regular one isn't. My gut says Mirror Niki gets more and more "TV time" in future episodes.

As for Future Hiro's wardrobe, it looked very Samurai-ish to me which makes sense given his ethnicity and desire to be a real hero.

The only things I didn't like about last night's episode were how quickly Simone & Peter hooked up, and any scene with Niki's kid in it. I don't know why the little bastard irks me so much, but he just does. The alley scene was great and the painter is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. I can't wait for next week's episode.

I know i'm in the minority of this, but I like the sublot of the politician and ali larter. I also think Future Hiro was dorky.

The preview of next week with the dude taking off into the air to escape (?) the scary black guy was NICE.

I was very lukewarm on the pilot but every episode since has gotten much, much better. This is a winner so far--exceptional at balancing tons of characters and plots, and very good at keeping things from getting too ridiculous. No one shoots lasers or anything like that--that their powers all seem to be very tangible and simple is a big plus.

It's going to be very hard for me to choose which show to watch Monday nights at 9 come January. Hiro or Jack Bauer single handedly fighting a billion Chinese? What a conundrum. Guess I'll have to fire up the VCR (yes, I'm still rocking the video cassette).

Downloaded Episode 4 today and it was the best yet. Very little of the over-cliche'dness (well except for the other girl being a fellow rape victim).

-"Is Peter Parker cheating... when he takes pictures of himself as Spider-Man?!" Point Ando.

-FUTURE HIRO!!! Awesome! I love how his costume is just a bit geeky and anime-ish, exactly the kinda thing you'd expect Hiro to do.

-Ali Larter is pretty hot.

-Where is everybody getting the "Save the cheerleader save the world" quote from? Was it in the preview? i didnt hear that in the show.

It doesn't strike me as random and ruthless as it does you. She slept with Petrelli because that was the agreement. Setting him up meant relieving Nikki from her debt and protecting Micah. Sure, she threatened and beat up the thug in the elevator but realistically that didn't accomplish anything. It doesn't get the true threat off her back. But, presuming the agreement is kept, setting up Petrelli does. Regular Nikki couldn't bring herself to do it even to protect her kid but her alter ego could.

Her actions haven't been random. I'll grant you, she probably could have killed the thugs in the garage less brutally but that's not a big issue. But the murders, cleaning up the bodies, beating up the thug in the elevator, and sleeping with Petrelli. They're all done to protect Nikki and her kid. And they're all things that Nikki herself didn't know how to deal with or couldn't bring herself to do. The morality is an extra issue but its not just random violence and promiscuity. There's one constant reason for it.

And reducing it to her alter ego having no morality seems wrong. Because it SEEMS like she's protecting Micah. "Mirror Nikki" may have lesser morals than regular Nikki but she does seem to have one constant ethic. The protection of "their" son (and themselves).

As far as comic book comparisons the easiest is probably DC's Rose and Thorn.

I agree with you about the protection stuff. I didn't mean to imply that what Mirror Niki does is random, but she certainly goes the extra mile just for shits and giggles as far as I can see. The simple fact that she was so organized when it came to the murders, clean up, etc just screamed that whole organized, morality free serial killer vibe to me. Maybe I've just been watching too much Criminal Minds lately.

Nikki said "our son" after beating up the goon in the elevator. I think her husband actually has the power, and the power is that he can take control over her. He will do anything to protect his son or watch over her, even making her sleep with Petrelli.

yeah, I figured "our son" meant the two Nikis...her ex-husband has the ability to phase, from everything I read, which would explain why he is an escaped convict...

Nobody commented on the new episode. Another really entertaining episode, though not quite as hardcore cool as last week. The best part imo was Hiro meeting Petrelli. I love the way they're creating this slow broken team, mission 1 is to save Claire.

The show's really hit its stride these past 2 episodes. Surprsingly I have no problem with all the coincidential meetings, maybe its the comic booky feel of it that makes it feel "natural", as these are the sort of contrived things you'd find in a comic book.

Oh yeah, and Nathan Petrelli's FLYING! there was even a sonic boom as he flew away. THAT was fuckin cool.

Yeah, this episode pushed the story along well while giving more attention to some of the other characters (the mind-reading cop). Next week looks like the episode where Niki finally becomes interesting.

This is a really good show and I can't wait for the next episode. Peter's powers of absorbtion were finally made obvious, although I didn't pick up on it until my wife (who wasn't really paying attention) said something. Much like everyone else I can't stand Ali Larter and her "greasy looking" son. Hopefully getting her husband involved will make things more interesting. The other characters are coming on strong.

I really like where the show is heading. I haven't been this involved in a show since the first season of Lost.

I'm still curious how Niki, DL and Matt will figure into the whole thing if they're going to eventually do the supergroup at some point. Obviously Hiro, Peter, Nathan and Isaac will all play a part in saving Claire and stopping the explosion, but I'm not so sure about the others just yet....they seem to kind of be on their own paths.

I'm kind of dying to know what DL's first and middle name really are.

Something outrageously long, like Dominick Littleweather or something like that.

And I'm also dying to know: Save the Cheerleader from WHAT?? What can hurt her!?

But HOW? She is always purported as being invincible. She can obviously regrow brain tissue. You can't GET any more immortal...

Also, it seems that she can be killed. She came back after the stake was pulled out of her, but if it hadn't been I assume she was a goner. Also, if she is split in half like the picture showed, she would have a hard time getting back together. I think that if someone managed to chop her up and scatter the parts (which would be a crime against a cutie), she'd be done.

I liked last nights episode. Hiro rocks it hard.
