The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 I found this movie completely and utterly riveting. It's gonna take a while for this to sink in. Holy Fuck...the Joker was simply tremendously done from script to execution. And I absolutely loved everything involving Harvey Dent. That was something else. Aero 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 All I can say is wow. One of the best movie-going experiences of my life. After watching Begins earlier today, I figured it would be better, but I wasn't expecting it to be THAT good.
Jaxxson Mayhem 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 The Dark Knight was insanely good. Heath Ledger put on an AMAZING performance and stole the movie. He was by far the best part of the entire movie.
foleyfanforever88 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 I, for one, was quite disappointed. The first 40 or so minutes of the movie bored me to death, and having watched Batman Begins right before The Dark Knight, I can say for sure I enjoyed the former more. I enjoyed this movie, don't get me wrong..I just didn't LOVE it, and I won't be paying to see it again in theaters. EDIT: But I do agree with everyone's sentiments on Ledger. He was fantastic. BorneAgain 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 As someone who enjoyed Begins, but felt the antagonists weren't as interesting as Batman, now having seen Dark Knight all I can say is god damn, now that's a villian. Honestly the thing I loved most about Ledger as Joker is that he came across not as being deliberately cruel or taunting, but just as a twisted psychopath who lives in his own world with no rules. He gets the joke. No one else does.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 I won't repeat what everyone's saying, but Ledger met the hype. I loved the way he embodied the Joker character. Even little things like the pacing of his sentences or the way he smacked his lips at times when he spoke seemed to serve a purpose. And god damn, the pencil magic trick surprised EVERYONE in the theater.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Yeah...that got a huge reaction in my theater too. It was a loud and collective "Holy Shit" followed by a lot of clapping.

Big Spoiler Below: Rachel getting blown up in MID SENTENCE suprised the hell out of everyone in the theater, but I had a feeling she was going to die when she gave Alfred that note. LivingLegendGaryColeman 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Just got in and I have nothing new to add obviously. I thought it was tremendous as well. I am interested in the box office numbers though. I wasn't sure if I was going to hit this as I have work in a couple hours, but got tickets this afternoon anyway. I went to a newer theater in town where I have never seen a crowd before because I guess no one realized it was there. Been there all sorts of times and no crowd. Tonight, TDK was on five screens, all with completely full audiences. If that is any indication, I hope this movie well deservingly gets the record-breaking business it deserves. Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 One complaint: the Two Face make up was too much. Not that was cartoony.
Scroby 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Yeah...that got a huge reaction in my theater too. It was a loud and collective "Holy Shit" followed by a lot of clapping. I saw the movie tonight (technially last night) and I found it quite good but holy fuck did the crowd annoy me. It got to the point where I almost walked out of the movie before the movie even started. The theater I went to decided to show 12 screenings of it at midnight and weren't prepared for the giant fucking line that showed up. The theater made only one line and let it run all the way back outside, so in a effort to make the line smaller, they let people into the theathers really fucking early. I'm talking like an hour in a half before the fucking commericals came on early and of course the place had to be filled with fucking people between the ages of 16 to 19 who got restless real fast. A giant group of 17 to 19 year olds sat in the rows behind us and when I say giant, I mean 20 kids were in the group and of course they were being as loud as they could be. This fat fucker who sat right behind me kept yelling at the top of his lungs while his friends would yell a long with him. It got to the point that the group I saw in (who was in the row in front of these kids) started yelling at each other for conversations in hopes they'd get the fucking hint. Some jackoff found the light switch and kept turning them off and on and I sware to God if I had known where that lightswitch was, I would have gone right up to it and found the motherfucker playing with that Goddamn switch and would have broke his hands. That's how much of a bad mood I got put into before this movie started. And oh God the clapping. Like I understand there were some pretty badass scenes. I mean the first joker scene (Magic Pencil), that really deserved clapping. That was a great motherfucking scene, but then the second scene the joker appeared in for like 2 minutes didn't deserve clapping. After every cool thing people would clap. It got annoying and fast. It really hurt the movie experiance for me, but besides the crowd I really wanted to kill, it was a great movie.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 You'd think some of the people at the midnight screening I was at NEVER go to movies outside of special midnight screenings. I understand they were anxious to see the film but I'd never heard so many impatient people sitting through the same "shut your phone off" messages, car commercials, and movie trailers. Oh yeah, the movie was awesome.
MDH257 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Ledger's performance as good as everyone is saying. My only complaint is the ending (as far as The Joker is concerned). The Joker is a sadistic bastard who dosen't let up. Every attempt to stop him just draws everyone deeper into his game. It all seems to be leading up to a final showdown that just kind of ends with a whimper. I'm mean, he gets left hanging and were told he's gonna spend the rest of his life in a padded cell, seriously... that's it? I understand if that was supposed to leave it open for him to return for the next movie, but since we know that's not happening, it just felt underwhelming. Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Hasn't Nolan gone on record to say he doesn't like the whole "killing off major villians" thing in comic book movies?
Boon 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 The Magic Pencil thing was incredibly badass. I had seen the first six minutes online, so this was the first new thing I saw, and I became instantly hooked into the character. I do agree that Dent's makeup was over the top, but that character arc was really well done.
dubq 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 5 stars. Best movie I've ever seen. I'm serious. I have no issues or complaints. If someone were to ask me to choose only one movie that I'd be able to watch for the rest of my life, I now have an answer.

IronManLUNG 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Christian Bale and Maggie Gylennhall nearly put me to sleep. It's too bad Robert Downey couldn't have played Batman too. Ah well, definitely a good movie.
Dandy 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 So was that Killer Croc on the boat? Large black man with what could have been a skin condition. Also, the citizen that shot at the lawyer...was that Jow Chill? I had to sit third row, so things that happened really fast were hard to pick up.
dubq 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Do you mean Tiny Zeus Lister that was on the boat? Doubt he was Croc.. that looked more like a branding on his neck than anything else, plus I doubt Croc would do something as noble as what this guy did.
Dandy 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Yes, that was who I was talking about. I thought it was a branding, but I thought I say a place on his face as well (again, sitting third row made my eyes scan for details that could have been seen sitting further back). Croc wasn't always a despicable person.

The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 I feel like I want to write a lot about the movie...but will wait a couple days until everyone has a chance to see it. I don't feel like starting a long spoiler tagged conversation. There is much to discuss. I am a happy Batman fan.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Gahhhhhh spoiler tags, so tempting... I have to wait till Saturday to see the movie. Does anyone know if any cable channels are airing Batman Begins this weekend? I haven't seen it since 2006. I saw it for $6 in some store's ad, but cannot remember which. King Kamala 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 It was on FX last night and I assume it'll be on all weekend if you don't mind it being a little bit censored. I don't know if the premium channels are showing it.
Boon 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 It's funny- I came home from watching it and couldn't get to sleep so I turned on the TV to see TNT showing the abortion that was Batman and Robin. Kinda funny when you compare the worst with the best an hour after each other.
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Ledger was great as the Joker and I thought he really carried the movie. That said, the movie didn't really do it for me. Here are my thoughts on the Dark Knight. I hated Bale's Batman growl/grunt. I've been spoiled by Kevin Conroy. My biggest problem with the movie was that I just wasn't feeling any growth in Batman as a character. They spent so much time having Joker fuck with him about not fighting his way, but there was no pay off. It just felt empty. What I liked about Iron Man so much was that as a character, Tony Stark changed from being a self center prick who didn't care about what he was doing to becoming self aware at the end of the film. That's why the last scene was so powerful when he announced that he was Iron Man.
dubq 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 I don't think so. I think Batman himself received as much growth from this as he needed. We already know him as a vigilante out to fight criminals, but in this film he's realizing that as much as he saves the city from harm, he's also putting it in harms way. He's going to have to be the scapegoat for a new level of criminal coming out of the woodwork and the chaos that they bring unto Gotham. Not just a scapegoat for the citizens, but also a scapegoat for those criminals, as well. It came down to giving it all up and turning himself in.. or accepting that he HAS to be the outcast and a "hated hero" in order to do what needs to be done. For me, that was plenty of growth for one movie.
The Niggardly King 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Ledger I fully expected to live up to his role, but holy shit if Eckhart doesn't get a nomination from any type of major awards ceremony... it's going to be criminal. Great movie.
