Mr. Kennedy Severely Injures His Triceps

Recommended Posts

It always seems like these injuries happen in bulk after a long over sea's tour. They push these guys too hard. They work every night, don't get to eat right, don't get enough sleep and don't get to work out so their bodies begin to break down and then they're put right back on the road here in the States and their bodies don't get enough time to rest and recover.

Agreed. WWE treats their workers like pack mules.

While the schedule's pretty rough, I don't think it's that horrible. It's part of being a wrestler.

Pack mules is a bit of a stretch- that'd be more like the 80s.

I don't understand why Edge was given the money in the bank shot, if Kennedy is going to be back in the ring before Wrestlemania, why take it off him? Just have him come out once a week to remind us how many days are left until he cashes in the breifcase. Kind of like the old RKO promos...but tons better.

Because Kennedy was never going to wait till Mania, it was going to be classic dick heel.........he was likely going to win it tonight and when he got hurt that sent them into a mad rush, I fully expect Edge to win the title at the Smackdown tapings.

That's actually false. In this week's WON (obviously written before the injury this weekend), the plan was for Kennedy to go on a hot streak, do few if any jobs leading up to 'Mania, and challenge for one of the titles in one of the main matches on the show.

Why? He attacked him before the bell was rang, so the match wasn't taking place.

To me, this puts Kennedy over big as a face when he returns. His "Misssssterrrrr Kennnnnedyyyyy" schtick will get him over as a face. I'm calling it now. Kennedy is the next Rock (well...almost).

A friend of mine was going to drive 2 hours to London for the May 29th SmackDown / SNME taping to see Kennedy as champion. He'll be dissapointed to hear this.

Was that before or after Taker got hurt..........that obviously changed plans pretty quickly.

On the surface, this seems to contradict everything they've done on TV (panic the MITB away from Ken), everything Meltzer said on the website (cryptic hints someone who wasn't Taker or Batista was leaving the SD! taping with the belt), and Alverez noting that Kennedy's injury sent the WWE office into a crazy house. But that's the nature of the website vs newsletter, I guess.

A lot of the stuff The Rock did was extremely annoying by definition but he was over huge.

I dunno, The Rock's voice wasn't as annoying as Kennedy's can be. And he didn't pull weird faces in between words, like Edge seems to like immitating when he's around Kennedy.

I like Kennedy and I think the injury might be one of those things where you look back and it actually helps the character, just as it did when Austin got injured, just as it did when Orton got injured. Not to the same extent probably as Austin, but still. Kennedy can still be 'around' and have time to develop the character, without wrestling (and jobbing to Matt Hardy).

Meltz's Tuesday update:

--Obviously, with Undertaker having surgery for a torn biceps later this week, he's dropping the Smackdown title tonight. After last night's show, there is an obvious train of thought that Edge may be on the show tonight cashing in the Money in the Bank stipulation after the cage match. I suspect this all goes down around 9:45 p.m. Eastern time and Justin Shapiro will be on the scene so we'll have details on exactly what is decided when it happens.

This is one of my pet peeves.

There isn't going to be another The Rock, or Stone Cold. If anything, Kennedy becomes famous, he will become the 1st Kennedy, not the 2nd "Rock". People need to stop expecting these young up and coming wrestlers to become the next Rock or Austin, and let them become their own superstar.

I hope people can keep the board spoiler-free until Friday, not counting the SD spoiler thread of course. I'm tempted to just stay away until the show.

I still think it'll be funny if Edge doesn't win the title. For all we know they'll just have Batista beat Taker, and then set up Batista/Edge for PPV.

And while I'm at it, how many SD main eventers haven't been injured badly over the past year or so? It's like there's a revolving door for everyone. Someone gets hurt, someone returns, someone else gets hurt, someone else returns.

Just stay away from wrestling boards and sites from the web.

I bet WWE.com spoils it, just like they did when Angle came to SD! and won the belt.

Weren't the rating for that episode of Smackdown! higher then usual because veiwers knew there would be a title change? If they were, then I wouldn't be surprised to see them spoil it on wwe.com to give the ratings another quick boost.

Well, thats what I meant with the "well...almost" part. I know Kennedy won't be the next Rock. There will never be another Rock. But I do believe he will be the guy that is carrying the company in a year or two. As long as booking doesn't fuck him over.

I can only see Kennedy and Punk being mainstay credible main event level names for the WWE in the future out of all the younger crop of talent. Burke has the tools though. Not counting people like Cena whom might still be considered a part of the new crop given he's still quite young.

Mr. Kennedy had been counting down the days until he cashed in his Money in the Bank contract and competed for a World Championship at WrestleMania 24. Unfortunately, with 328 days remaining until the March 30, 2008 pay-per-view in Orlando’s Florida Citrus Bowl, time has suddenly run out for SmackDown’s loudmouth Superstar. In addition to losing his Money in the Bank contract to Edge on Raw Monday night, Kennedy is en route to Birmingham, Ala., to consult with Dr. James Andrews about his injured right arm and impending surgery.

Despite first injuring his arm during a WWE live event last weekend, the cocky Superstar fought through immense pain and continued competing in the ring. He even attended Raw at Penn State University this past Monday to update our fans with his Money in the Bank countdown, only to find himself baited into a match with Edge. Though never one to back down from a fight, the already-injured Kennedy hurt his own cause by accepting the Rated-R Superstar’s challenge, then trying to fight off his brutal pre-match assault. He was ultimately unable to withstand a Spear from Edge and keep his coveted Money in the Bank briefcase. Adding even more injury to insult, his valiant effort resulted in him tearing his right triceps muscle right off the bone.

No stranger to injury, Kennedy sat out much of early 2006 when he separated the tendon from the bone in his lat (back). Sources close to the SmackDown Superstar have said that he is so distraught over this latest setback, plus the loss of his title opportunity, that he may never return to the ring.

WWE.com witnessed first hand the tremendous physical and emotional toll taken on Mr. Kennedy; several hours after his devastating loss on Raw, the visibly upset Superstar could not bring himself to leave the locker room area. For a man who’s never been at a loss for words, it was very unsettling to observe Kennedy quietly sitting in a corner, his head in his hands as he mumbled to himself over an uncertain future.

that would suck.

Ummm thats Kennedy (or I mean the company) clearly kayfabing, folks. Probably an additional layer of story to draw sympathy to a returning babyface Kennedy in late 07/early 08.

kayfabe is clearly understood fellas. The reality of it all is it could turn out to be something that comes true, as oldskool pointed out.

Ewww, that's by the elbow, too. That's the worst spot.

A triceps injury is very serious. If it doesn't heal properly, you can lose movement in your arm, and it's an injury that's prone to repeating. There's a realistic possibility it could end his career.

An update and some great news. He *didn't* tear his tricep muscle and is only going to be out for 6-8 weeks, not 5-7 months:

Speedy recovery for Kennedy?

By Zack Zeigler

Written: May 9, 2007

Edge may not want to get too comfortable wearing the World Heavyweight Championship around his Rated-R waist. WWE.com has received word that the initial prognosis for Mr. Kennedy’s arm injury was overstated. Based on Kennedy’s extensive MRI at the Birmingham, Ala. offices of Dr. James Andrews, WWE’s Dr. Ferdinand Rios now reports that the SmackDown Superstar’s triceps tendon “was not torn from the bone as originally reported and will not require surgery.â€

Due to the severity of Kennedy’s hematoma — a collection of blood within a tissue or organ — he is still not cleared to compete from a medical standpoint.

“He’s still vulnerable to injury and the arm remains badly swollen,†said Dr. Rios. “I’d expect him to be out of action for about six to eight weeks.â€

Upon hearing the positive report, WWE.com caught up with the former Money in the Bank holder. Though clearly relieved, he’s already shifting his focus from a likely six months of recovery time to plotting his next move.

“This is great news for me; I don’t have a torn muscle,†Kennedy said. “But the good news for me is really, really bad news for Edge. He took something from me…took advantage of my unfortunate situation. Now he and everyone else have just a short amount of time to worry about what I’m going to do when I get back.â€
