The NBA Offseason Thread

Nick (NYC): With Elton Brand's departure from the Clippers, Zach Randolph's stock just went up. Can you see Randolph going there for maybe Eric Gordon, DeAndre Jordan, and cash? Remember Clips are under the cap so they don't have to match salaries.

Take away the Gordon part, and honestly it would make the Clippers a better team. Zach randolph or Tim Thomas....I mean I think that is a no brainer

Well, obviously. I was more laughing at the Knick fan thinking they could actually dump Randolph's contract on the Clippers and get back two lottery talents in return.

EDIT: And yes, I know Jordan was drafted in the second round, but he was projected as a top 10 pick early on, and wound up slipping because of character issues or something.

Deandre Jordan fell to the second round because his only NBA talent is that he can jump. Thats it. He sucks offensively, defensively and can't rebound that well. But he is tall and a athlete. He is Stromile Swift 3.0.

Zach is a 20-10 guy. They need to replace their 20-10 guy. Yeah, Brand was alot better and actually plays defense, but I think Zach could be a good replacement.

I always confuse Brad Miller with Austin Croshere in the "goofy-ass white guys" category. The former has dreadlocks, the latter has a bald spot, correct?

You get a multiple time All-Star confused with a 10 minute a game bench guy?

WHY!?

First the report that we turned down an offer for Randolph that included Hinrich in favor of Ben Gordon, now this? Maybe Randolph will be really good under D'Antoni? Yeah sure.

The Knicks have rejected a proposal from the Clippers to trade power forward Zach Randolph, league sources told SI.com.

Terms of any proposal were not known, but the Clippers have enough salary-cap space to accept Randolph's contract without having to give the Knicks equal salaries in return. The Clippers, seeking to replace the departed Elton Brand, were trying to take Randolph off the Knicks' hands while offering little more than cap relief to New York, the sources said. Randolph will make $14.7 million next season, and he has three years and $48 million left on his contract.

While the Knicks are known to be interested in clearing cap space by 2010 to make a run at LeBron James or other potential free agents, the sources said New York wanted more than simple cap relief in exchange for Randolph. The Knicks appear to believe that Randolph will provide a highly productive season under new coach Mike D'Antoni, which could raise his value much higher than it is today. That's why the Knicks were not interested in nearly giving away Randolph's contract, according to the sources.

Other options for the Clippers would include pursuing Hawks power forward Josh Smith or Bobcats power forward Emeka Okafor, but because both are restricted free agents, their respective teams can match any offer.

So. Much. Anger. Getting rid of $48 million over 3 yrs today is better than hoping Zach is productive this year and then dumping him at $33 million over 2 years next season. Even if he is really productive how do you justify getting rid of him next offseason if he's going to end up being your best player? If you have a chance to get LeBron, Randolph won't be here anyway. I just don't get this team at all.

I came in here to see if anyone posted the Najera. Last I read he was saying either return to Denver or going to Phoenix or San Antonio. I don't know why New Jersey, as he could help elsewhere, unless the Nets wants to give him a larger role than those other teams.

I had heard Hayes was going to New Jersey and I can only assume for an increased role as well.

I hadn't seen Boston getting O'Bryant yet. Clifford Ray supposedly was very big in helping Al Jefferson and Kendrick Perkins get adjusted and NBA ready, so who knows what he can do with O'Bryant's "potential" (I know that is why Warriors took him in the lottery, but seeing him in the Summer League a few times, I understand his lack of any PT opportunities in the season), although he won't likely get any important minutes anyway.

The Lakers are interested in Jorge Garbajosa as a replacement for Turiaf, apparently, Pau put the word out and is trying to bring him in.

Yeeeah.

Who's 2.0?

Any time you add a 20/10 guy to your roster, you´re looking at a big improvement.

Unless you're the New York Knicks and that guy is Zach Randolph, in which case you improbably become worse.

As far as not trading Randolph for cap relief, whatever, it sounds ideal, but I completely agree that Randolph could be really good playing for D'Antonio, and if he is they can easily trade him after the season or at the trade deadline and get a much better return on him, like a good draft pick or two and a decent-good player with a short contract.

Really, Randolph should flourish under D'Antoni. He's an inside-outside scoring threat and a good rebounder, mediocre defender, but based on his tenure with the Suns D'Antoni won't hold that against him. He could score a lot of points and grab a ton of rebounds next year, the only question I have is if he gets himself in good enough shape and is willing to run.

The Pacers have a guy on their summer league team named Stanley Burrell.

Today, the Hornets won a summer league game over the Bobcats on a game-winner by Bobby Brown.

I was a little a bit of that Warriors and Mavs game, and I have to say Anthony Randolph was impressive. I don't think he'll have a low post game, he's more of a slasher/ball handler more of a Lamar Odom type of player.

Brad Miller is suspended for the first 5 games of the upcoming season for violating the league substance policy.

And where the hell have YOU been, man??

I'm still smarting over how the Pistons performed (or did not perform) in the playoffs, but after hearing that there are grumblings of them getting McGrady.. That is at least them trading Rasheed and Tayshaun... maybe even Rip too. I have no qualms about Rasheed going at all, and losing Tayshaun is going to hurt a lot on the defensive end.. Rip would be a mistake, I think.... I am not totally sure that this would be a step up for the Pistons at all...

Which NBA city is going to have a radio station hand out free/discounted versions of those shirts in their team colors for when the Lakers visit first?

Yes, Tyrus Thomas is Swift 2.0

And Randolph shouldn't flourish in Mikes system honestly. His system steams from ballmovement. If you don't have a shot when steve gets you the ball, there is no reason for you not to be moving and passing the ball away. Anyone that has watched Randolph play knows the he is a traditional block scorer. he gets the ball, creates space, faces up, takes a jumper or does his move with his back to the basket. The Suns system is catch and go. thats why a guy like Marcus Banks didn't work in Phoenix because he was being too traditional of a basketball player.

I think they should move Randolph right now, and as quickly as possible. And Curry. Guys like Sean Williamsand Josh Boone would work better in Mikes system honestly.

This one's just for Czech, from Gilbert Arenas' blog:

Richard Jefferson going to Milwaukee …. HAHAHA! Oh man, now that is funny. When I heard that, I started laughing. Oh man, did I start laughing. You know why? Because every player hates Milwaukee. Nobody wants to live in Milwaukee. I’m sorry, Milwaukee, to come down hard on you, but no one in the NBA wants to play in Milwaukee. From him going from New Jersey, actually from New York (because he lives in New York), from New York to Milwaukee is like going … let’s just say it’s not going to sit well with you. That was a funny one when I heard that one. I know Yi is happy though.

Milwaukee is not a bad city, There things to do in the summer, like summerfest is cool, and trips to to Wisconsin Dells is fun. Now that I got an itch for gambling, i'll probably going to the casino there frequently.

Summerfest smells like beer, cigarette smoke, urine, vomit, and hot rotting garbage, all at once. It's more obligatory than recreational. Wisconsin Dells might actually be improved by the loss of the Tommy Bartlett Water Show, now that the lake has ceased to exist:

So alfdogg tells me that the horseshit owner wants to trade Ben Gordon and keep Kirk Hinrich, even though the Bulls just drafted Derrick Rose to be their point guard of the future, and Gordon is pretty good whereas Hinrich sort of sucks and looks like that guy that works at Best Buy who doesn't know shit about computers but still halfheartedly hectors you into buying an extended warranty on your crappy new laptop. I guess Vinny Del Negro won't get to take Ben Gordon to lunch. Vinny Del Negro has never coached at any level.

The talk was keeping Kirk Hinrich to groom him as a two-guard - a guy who can't hit the broad side of a barn with his jumpshot. And do you honestly think he can guard a 2 , especially one that can create his own shot? This may be funnier than the Warriors' backcourt.

I remember when Hinrich was supposed to be a Stockton/Hornacek hybrid... I guess Chicago though he was more Jeff than John.

Imagine how bad the Nuggets' defense is going to look now. I understand this was a salary move, but wtf, Denver.
