Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2008 The fanbase-coach/manager relationship is so fascinating. Jack McKeon turned the Marlins into world champions! The Marlins missed the playoffs because McKeon's too out of touch. The White Sox won the World Series. Ozzie's a great manager! The White Sox didn't make the playoffs this year. Ozzie's awful! Jim Leyland's hard-nose attitude helped guide the Tigers to the World Series, he's awesome! The Tigers are lousy with the same core of players. It's Leyland's fault! Point is: managers and coaches get too much credit for success and too much grieve for failure.

Guest Epic Narcissism Report post Posted June 5, 2008 White Sox fans still don't blame anything on Ozzie Guillen. They just blame it on the Cubs. Actually, the root of all post-2005 failures is the departure of Aaron Rowand. "Alls Thome does is get on base," they said, but this year, it looks like alls he does is nothing. Ozzie wriggled out of that whole Kenny Williams/Greg Walker flop nicely, I do have to give him that. Someone asked how he could demand that his GM make a change, and he said something like, "no, you misunderstand, ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh I never demand my kids to do things so not my boss" and everyone laughed and they kicked the shit out of Kansas City and life goes on. Dandy 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 Brett Myers has a no hitter through 6 against the Reds. Volquez has given up only two hits, but the Phils have had several people on and in scoring position due to walks, HBP, an error, and a wild pitch.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 I don't know if it's worth starting a new thread for the MLB draft, which kicks off at 2pm tomorrow afternoon. The draft is interesting because several of the players are still active in the college postseason. I'll try and put together a list together Friday morning of draftees in the Super Regionals and their respective teams.

devo 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 What a strange crowd reaction at Citizens Bank. Booing when Myers pitches around and then walks Griffey. I mean, I get that seeing the 600th home run would be pretty cool, but I'd want my team to win first. Also, I think it's pretty funny that Arroyo has pinch run for him two nights in a row now. The desire to catch that home run, get in a legal fight over it, and end up selling it for less than the legal fees probably factored into it as well. Well ok so that's not what they envision. The desire to catch it then sell it at a rediculously inflated price probably factored into the boos. There we go.

Ozzie was the manager when they won the World Series. He should be given a pretty long leash. Juan Uribe was on the field, playing. How long should they trot him out there? That said, Ozzie's not going anywhere till he wants to. They love him there. He's marketable and keeps people interested. His leadership and strategic prowess vis-à-vis other managers in the thumb-up-your-ass American League is negligible. Sure, a veteran roster such as this one would probably benefit more from a Joe Torre type who just keeps everyone on an even keel rather than some hot dog who rants about being the "bitch of Chicago" because it's overcast during their home games, but that's a move they'll never make. He'll leave on his own terms, however soon that may be.

Montresor 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 It's amazing how many of these alleged fans are so anti Miguel Cabrera. This is true. Some people were calling for Brandon Inge over Cabrera earlier this season. I mean, I like Inge, but come the fuck on. Inge is probably a better pitcher than Casey Fossum; put him in the pen. geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 Boomshackalacka Before Monday’s game, Adam Dunn was busily hooking something up to a clubhouse TV. “It’s old-school, man. Real old-school,” said Dunn. “It’s a Sega Genesis game. NBA Jam. I play one game every day at home against our video guy (Jeff Graupe). We’ve been winning at home, so I brought him on the road.” Asked who usually won, Dunn said, “You need to ask?” Then he and Graupe played and Dunn lost, “In triple overtime. You believe that?” Dunn hit a two-run double in Monday night’s game, but the Reds lost, 5-4. NBA Jam does rule, can't really blame anyone for playing it everyday. naiwf 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 Melky Cabrera dropping a gimme double play ball has now cost the Yankees 5 runs and Wang is out in less than 5 innings. That bullpen is getting abused this week.
devo 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 Anybody watching the draft? The Mets have picked up a 1B-OF (Ike Davis) and a SS (Reese Havens) with their first two picks. Admittedly, I know very little about baseball prospects, but it's still pretty interesting to watch and see what direction certain teams choose to go. naiwf 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 Fear the pornstache. That's a blueprint game of why I never take the Blue Jays seriously. Melky gifted them FIVE runs. Barajas dropped two perfectly thrown balls at home that cost his team two outs and at least two runs since I can't remember if the Yankees scored after those plays. The cherry on top is Blow Job Ryan choking away a two run lead in the 9th by giving up a homer to a gimpy Giambi with two strikes. The more things change . . . Smartly Pretty 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 Anybody watching the draft? The Mets have picked up a 1B-OF (Ike Davis) and a SS (Reese Havens) with their first two picks. Admittedly, I know very little about baseball prospects, but it's still pretty interesting to watch and see what direction certain teams choose to go. From what I read, it sounds like the Mets drafted very well. Davis was apparently the best power hitter left on the board, and can play some outfield. Keith Law called the Havens pick "great", and he may move to either 2nd base or catcher (that sounds bizarre. 2nd base or catcher?) and in the compensation round they drafted a righty who throws 93-94, sometimes hitting 96. He has a slider but isn't consistent with it yet. I like it. This is just what I read from various blogs and shit though. Though it sounds like the Rockies really hit the jackpot with that Friedrich guy at 25.

devo 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2008 It's ridiculous how lucky Mike Pelfrey is getting tonight. He's allowed eleven baserunners but only one's scored and he's worked out of two bases loaded one out jams without allowing a single run from either. On one hand, not great to see that he's still allowing everyone and their brother on base, but on the other, his damage control seems to be coming along.
