I'd actually be cool with the UN not existing and the various continental/cultural groups (EU, Arab League, alliances like that) taking its place and acting as supernations that work together. A real world government could be possible down the line, but we won't pull that off until the regions of the world each get themselves in order first. Continuing economic globalization and the increasing ethnic mix of people in this world will lead to an all-encompassing government eventually, I feel. Maybe not in our lifetimes, but certainly within the next 250 years (assuming we haven't blown each other away by then or an asteroid hasn't taken out the planet).

Ya know, I haven't laughed at a joke-joke like the ones in this thread (setup into punchline) since I was 10. I feel like I'm missing out.

I like CDs better for all the reasons people here have stated they like vinyl better. I don't need or have that kind of depth and dedication. I'm all for more practical musical mediums as they come out. If it's good, it'll sound good no matter what (assuming optimum condition of the medium).

The Jewish people have bad luck, in terms of historical events, and in terms of a series of unfortunate coincedences that connect them to virtually everything. This just fuels conspiracy theorists further. I loves me a good conspiracy theory and probably subscribe to far too many, but the "Jewish people rule the world" case isn't one of them.

I felt terrible for it, but hearing the dude on Sportscenter rattle off all the stuff his car hit made me chuckle after around the halfway point. It just kept going as if it were a gag.

Isn't it a better deterrent if you can be reminded of the consequences by actually seeing someone locked up for the rest of their lives? If someone's dead, they're gone. Out of sight, out of mind. That's why it doesn't work. I mean, if the death penalty really did work in the thousands and thousands of years we as humans have used it, don't you think criminals would have gotten the message around year 1,000 or so of the idea? Just lock up the ones who would be worthy of execution under current statutes in the deepest, darkest parts of prisons where they can be living (instead of static, non-existent) reminders.

Remember when health care costs were skyrocketing because of malpractice suits and we had to keep these awful people from driving up the cost of medicine produced by unrelated corporations even more? Oh yeah, and then there was that time that gay marriage was going to destroy the fabric of civilization. And how could I forget when all those horrid poor black people without food or water in New Orleans had the nerve to loot businesses? This world can be so unpleasant sometimes.
