  1. Something that also hit me was that next week is the Raw after Armageddon, meaning Raw is free to promote the ME for the New Year's Revolution PPV without brand confusion.
  2. This doesn't directly answer the question, but when I first bought an ECW VHS tape that featured the Lynn/RVD match from HH99 (I think.. smae one that's on the WWe DVD now) I hated it. I only knew Rob from the few times I saw ECW on TV and his quick match on Raw against Jeff Hardy, so basically I thought the match was too much stalling and a bunch of stupid flips and stuff that meant nothing and made me question why Joey Styles was claiming people called this the greatest match ever in the intro to it on the tape... Fast forward to watching the match recently, with a better understanding of RVD's offense... it's still a bunch of stalling to start, but I did end up liking that match. To actually answer the question, most PPVs from 1998 or 1999 were things I loved at the time, mostly due to watching them with a large group of people cheering, but watching them in later years on VHS is a cause to FF through it. I find Mania 14 and SummerSlam 98 hold up well, as do scattered matches from those PPVs, but I can;t figure out what I ever saw in Fully Loaded 98. I look forward to the day that becomes decade old nostalgia to make it good again.
  3. The thread is locked during the show. we have a seperate fourm for our idiotic comments. I see... I generally stay away from these things as my pro-WWE markish bias tends to disagree with 90% of the "this is gay" or what have you sentiment that goes on in During Show Threads, so I'm out of that loop I guess. I thought the OAO thread was something that was posted before the show and in general went on to be 14+ pages of show comments during the show plus aftermath comments too, but recently I've been seeing "Raw Discussion" threads, which I thought were meant to be started once the show ended. Now I know, and knowing is half the catchphrase.
  4. Kinda werid that the only two all women Raw main events both featured Lita capturing the belt in a better than expected match. Of course, I could be wrong and there might have been a Trish vs Someone Raw ME I'm not remembering, and of course opinion on those Lita matches vary as well, but you get my point.
  5. The show seemed kinda odd (2 dqs? Pissing the whole audience 10 minutes in by announcing that the title situation won't be solved for a week - which in turn means several weeks?), but was it that bad that everyone decided not to watch this week? Or was there some problem with the forum? Doesn't this thing usually hit several pages by now? My own thoughts... I thought it was a good show, but it kinda felt like a cross between a Russo Raw and a bad Nitro at times. 2 segments before we had a match, not booking Flair in a match when obviously that was what the crowd wanted, the above mentioend 2 DQ finishes... But I liked the matches. I thought Eugene vs Maven did what it intended do and I thought Maven showed some charisma as a heel during the match. The "He tripped me!" bit was good. I thought Trish vs Lita was good, but that might have been a combination of being wowed by that bump Lita took, the hot crowd, and Trish looking super hot tonight. The tag match was pretty good while it lasted too.
  6. The Survivor Series 96 secret partner that ended up being Snuka... Anyone else here rumours about it being Savage? That was the big rumour around these parts.
  7. This is quite the thread, finally finished reading it. The WWE/ECW ones are good too. A question about what Regal did between his WWF stints was asked and the answer "nothing" was given... I do seem to recall him being involved in the WCWSN TV tite exclusive angles that also involved Duggan and the Cuban Assassin, but I could be way off on this one. I swear Regal lost, perhaps to Duggan, a match on SN that was his last one for WCW as it was either a Loser Leaves or a "If I don't win the title I'm leaving" situation. Feel free to correct this if it's wrong. Mabel as the 3rd man... wow. Wrestling sure would have been different. ML Curly, Detroit wrestling guy and convicted (I think) pedophile did report the Hogan thing in advance of the show, but he said to expect mother ships to blow up the earth if it happened and maintained that it would probably be Luger since Hogan wouldn't go heel. Something that bothered me when I was younger was that WCW never had Bulldog beat Vader for the WCW title. I thought he would win it at Slamboree, but he didn't, so I thought for sure he'd win at the Clash, and he didn't. It pissed me off as I was a Bulldog mark. Any reason for this? Was it ever even considered, or was Bulldog just filler until Vader lost it to Sid (which turned out to be Flair) in December?
  8. Here's a story about Rhyno... When WWE signed him, they didn't want to use Rhino (Marvel and such). They were in a bind and the best they could come up with was "Mary". Rhyno called Joe E. Legend and explained this awful situation to him. Joe suggested using a Y instead of an I (like Chyna). That story comes from Joe, so take it for what you feel it's worth.
  9. Well score one for You Know Who, because he was actually the one who said the WCW thing was false back when people e-mailed him questions before it was revealed all his stories were bullshit. YKW: 1 Other, more accurate sources: A million
  10. Depending who you believe, this was... 1. The plan all along with Piper wanting to give the rub to Bret 2. Vince taking the title away from Bret so he didn't run off to WCW with it, a matter which was cleared up by WMVIII. There is probably a true story somewhere inbetween those combined with Bret being legitmately sick/injured (I don't know if he was or not) when they did that title switch-up, but I don't know it.
  11. Interesting stuff about Perfect/Marty/Shawn. Did Meltz answer a question from someone about Borga on WOL tonight? I was asking someone on IRC to ask about the Perfect / Series 93 situation, but if someone totally random asked about something that was being discussed in here (or perhaps someone who read / posted in here), that's pretty cool.
  12. Savage punching Hogan comes from Scott Keith's old FAQ, thus it's the untrue story (or so one would think based on everything else of controversy from that FAQ being debunked as false) I guess if you put it that way, it makes sense, but watching it live at 12 years old, I thought Ramon was pissed off.
  13. - I think you meant SummerSlam 96, Andy, not 97. Some evidence appears on the Survivor Series 2002 DVD, which has a poster gallery for the previous events. the 1996 poster has the faces of Bret, Austin, Shawn, and Vader. The actual poster / video cover had Sid's face on it. - If the fan harassment issue is true (and to me, if it is, that is a legitimate reason to miss a show assuming Vince was notified), does anyone find it a bit odd that they had Ramon verbally bury Perfect pre-match? "He's so Perfect, he don't even need to show up" or something along those lines. - On this topic, a while back I was reading through some of Herb Kunze's Wrestling TidBits posts on Google Groups archives (fascinating stuff - I recommend checking it out if you've enjoyed the stuff in this thread) and I seem to recall reading about a falling out between Perfect and the Federation over the IC title. The word was he was not thrilled that Marty Jannetty won it after they started the Perfect/Shawn build-up at WM9, and even les thrilled when he didn't end up winning it at SummerSlam when he actually had his match. This could all be bullshit / bad memory on my part, though. - For some reason everyone on on 438 Land (the name given to all the Detroit wrestling hotlines using Ameritech voice mail - all being 438-####) kept saying the WM13 tag title match would be Owen/Bulldog vs the LOD. While watching something in Canada (Raw I imagine, but I seem to recall this being on a Saturday afternoon and I don't remember TSN's schedule around that time... might have been something on CHCH) I saw Dok Henrdix advertise in live event news the match that actually happened (Owen/Bulldog vs Mankind/Vader). I did my own hotline update (or left a voice mail for someone who reported it later.. long time ago) with this info and no one believed it, but sure enough it was advertised in the US the following Monday. - Chris "Excalibur" Jericho... ok, you know how we have a lot of dirtboards that report garbage, but a lot of the headlines are nothing and (I would hope) just a parody of the time period when we had 3 million casual viewers of wrestling that hace since all left and beleived crap from 100 different websites o nthe net? Yeah.... where was I? Ok, so THQ is making a game called WrestleMania 2000 for the N64, you may have heard of it. Jericho is under contract with the World Wrestling Federation but has not debuted yet, and the company has a history of rebranding people with different personas. THQ makes a placeholder model named Excalibur for Jericho, screenshots leak, dirtboards report it, the rest is now the stuff urban legends are made of. In short, Excalibur was something THQ created. THQ do not book the WWE.
  14. I tend to mark out a lot for dumb things (like Goldberg accepting the White Boy Challenge last summer), and have done so a lot since I started watching in 1991, so let me think of things that were big... Savage/Liz from WM7... this happened before I started watching, and when I saw the tape that year I didn't fully comprehend what I was seeing, but now if I watch the show I find it all very powerful stuff. Generally anytime there is a title change on TV I didn't see coming going into the show I mark out.. most recently Eugene and Regal winning the tag titles. On that note, I marked out for all the positive Regal/Eugene segments (I didn't care for the HHH manipulation... it was a good story on paper but in execution it was Eugene overkill and it temporarily killed him). Ahmed Johnson bodyslamming Yokozuna While I marked out quite a bit for Rock vs Hogan from WMX8 at a bar (and still do when I watch it at home), being in Detroit live to see Hogan's first match back where he pinned Rock was absolutely INSANE i nterms of marking out. Benoit's success in 2004. Mick Foley being an entrant in the 2004 Rumble ECW InVasion. Dupree doing his dance at a November 2003 house show where me, my friend, and a row of people behind us on the floor kept yelling "DANCE! DANCE! DANCE!" at Rene Dupree. HBK's phantom title win over HHH last December. Roddy Piper being the next entrant in the 92 Rumble after Flair is exhuasted and left by himself Lesnar F5'ing Big Show at Survivor Series 2002 Rikishi leaping off the top of the cage at Fully Loaded 2000 1997 Owen/Bret reunion (I can say without shame that had me tearing up)
  15. I'm getting the big box for Christmas. I assume the documentary (based on the trailer I saw on the Spider-Man 2 DVD) is the same one that aired on NBC on Thanksgiving, which was good.
  16. Yeah, as mentioned, these episodes all already aired here in Canada so they're available for download via KAzaa or what have you if you just can't wait for TV. We (Canadians) were supposed to get the whole season without interuption, but the 2 part former season finale wasn't finished and subsequently got bumped to up to a Season 2 premier, so we're just waiting for Season 2 episodes they moved down. Good line from next week's episode: As Batman is falling through the sky: "I could use some air support here.. because I can't fly. At all".
  17. How do you get to it. i found the one of Alfred Molina doing "Fiddler on the Roof" with the arms, but where is that? I don't remember, but it was on an arm. I just kept clicking down and then one of the arms became highlighted.
  18. Anyone check out the easter egg of Dafoe playing Doc Ock? Short but sweet.
  19. First thing I thought of with the Rumble poster was Donkey Kong. That's always good.
  20. When Randy Orton single-handedly beat the UnAmericans on Raw in 2002, Christian didn't know how to sell the O-Zone. The result was Randy spinning around to do that contrived move while Christian just stood there and did nothing. Hilarious. Although this was 1. A spot I enjoyed, therefore not the worst and 2. Part of the match, therefore shouldn't be considered a no-sell (although that didn't seem to make any difference to 90% of the reponses in here), the spot from one of the Tazz/Lawler matches where Tazz keeps popping up from Lawler's piledriver, but collapses after no-selling the 3rd one was an enjoyable spot. Again off topic, one of the worst OVER sells I remember seeing would be Henry Godwin giving Animal the worst belt shot to the back of the head I've ever seen (Henry just lifted the belt while Animal was running the ropes, and Animal pretty much missed the belt), which Animal sold like death and was pinned from. In my memory, I recall some pretty bad selling from a psychological standpoint in a cage match in ECW, I believe between the Eliminators and the Gangstas. There were multiple leaps from the top or near the top of the cage, and I don't recall a single one where the leaper bothered to sell the fact he just took a big jump. Maybe tat's just me being raised on WWE and not being keen on the EXTRME attitude of cage jumping, though.
  21. I've noticed there's a lot of things going on the air lately (when they're used to be none). Is there some storyline reason for this that my character is currently oblivious to? I'm still in LS with missions to do (been busy and haven't had a lot of time to play lately), but after completing all of Tenpennys missions I noticed that I'd see choppers randomly circling around every now and then, and one time I was just walking around and a plane crashed into the street. It was pretty weird.
  22. Nice! A1, Al Ralphs, Mr. Windsor himself got the try-out match my friend was telling me he was rumoured to have on the house shows last weekend but didn't. He's not a great talent or anything (he kinda looks like a fusion between Lex Luger and Chuck Palumbo circa 2002) but he's a local guy so hooray for local pride, Border City Wrestling, the Can-Am Wrestling school, etc.
  23. As already mentioned, I enjoyed that there was actualy continuity with the Nelson character. He's obviously poor (from the episode where Bart shot the bird), his mom works/worked at Hooters (pee-wee football episode), and his dad was goen and Nelson missed him greatly (Pre-Teen Braves episode). There isn't often that much character continuity or memory for things like that unless it's in the context of a gag ("What's that? Homer bowled a perfect game?" "Grampa that was 2 1/2 years ago")
