godthedog Posted July 7, 2004 Report Posted July 7, 2004 the "last laugh"/"masters of the universe" combination is one of the most bizarre that i've ever seen. i see you've got 'carabiniers' in your collection, which i've never been able to get my hands on. is that one worth picking up sight unseen?
ArkhamGlobe Posted July 7, 2004 Report Posted July 7, 2004 I have no standards as to what I'll watch. Regarding what I'll praise, sure, but I'll watch pretty much anything. Regarding Les Carabiniers, it's one of Godard's strangest and most extreme films (of the period atleast) and it's pretty much where he takes his interest in Brechtian distancation devices the furthest. While this does not exactly make pulse-pounding excitement, it makes for a very interesting experiment, and I for one feel that it largely succeeds in it's aims. For a Godard fan it is definitely worth seeing (or buying, depending on disposable income) as it's an important film regarding his development as a filmmaker. A word of warning though, it will most likely require atleast two viewings to be appreciated (it did for me).

I've never seen the show before, but I had about 30 bucks worth of reward zone certificates from best buy and figured I'd give it a shot. I like X-Files, so chris carter's involvement in the show is what ultimately sold me
Guest cellardoor Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 I just ordered the Martin Scorsese Collection, which includes: After Hours Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore Goodfellas Mean Streets Who's That Knocking At My Door? Got the box set for under $40. Not bad considering it's 5 DVDs, and, well--Martin Scorsese! He's a fantastic director. Also, I recently won a copy of Touching the Void, but haven't gotten a chance to watch it yet.
