Will you people go to a Circuit City to buy an album for cheap, or will you pay the extra 5 bucks and go down to the more expensive yet extremely vital vinyl store down the street who actually needs your money to survive?

I went with the latter today. Should I be happy with myself?

It must be a small-town thing, but I've never been in many 'local' independant music stores.

I always go to the smaller chains over the likes of HMV or Virgin unless absolutely necessary. But they are still the same in that they sell the same stuff, with the same layout, etc.

Not many places down here sell good vinyl.

There's a stoner place near Wal-Mart, and I've gone in there to buy used CD's, DVD's, and videogames, but his selection of vinyl was severely lacking.

Most of the time now, I just buy at a store for the cheapest price.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by this buying music thing...

I hope your anus isn't suffocating you...

The problem I have is that, after the independent record store in my town closed, there aren't any places to buy records here, baring Woolworth, whose choice is near non-existant. If I'm visiting another town, I always try to visit independant store, simply because they generally have a better range and a more reasonable price range. I find the likes of HMV are more likely to charge £14 for a CD, just because they can, whereas the independant store will be £10 for the same CD.

If I want to buy a new CD the big chain stores are pretty much the only place near me that will have them near the day of release. Most of the smaller stores near me just sell used stuff and occasionally will have a new release a little while after the original date. I stop by there pretty often to see if they got any good stuff in though.

I go to HMV or Sunrise for the 2/20 deals, see what they do have, sometimes they are a bargin.

Mainly I go to the one near the college, when the college have the 3/20 deal, man there is some good quality shit when you can find it.

I go to the chains for main stream, but the mom and pops is the place to be for all the stuff the chains don't sell.

I have no choice but o hit up either Circuit City or Sam Goody for music, as there are no record stores near my home. The only time I ever go to Goody is when I'm looking for jazz. Circuit City's selection sucks balls, but they're cheap and at least have the mainstream artists.

Occasionally I hit up The Outdoor Store nex door to the costume shop wich my aunt and uncle own. They've got some decent cd's over there, but you have to maneuver your way past the deer-hunting camo and gunracks to find the tunes.

There's a decent independently owned store here in town; reasonably priced, plus, if they don't have what you want, they'll order it and it'll arrive fairly quickly (even a lot of the obscure stuff I listen to). The problem is that it's a 20 minute drive, a trip I rarely have the time or energy for.

Generally, I hit up Best Buy for the mainstream stuff (or higher profile indie acts; I got the new Wilco there yesterday), or pester one of the couple of people I know at Borders into letting me use their discount (for the indie, jazz and folk music BB never carries). Occasionally, I'll order online at http:www.cduniverse.com

As a capitalist, I look for the good deal and could careless where it is. If that means $5 for an old Anthrax or Motely Crue cd at the mall then I will go there. If it means buying an $8 used new release at a franchise like CD Warehouse than I will go there. I also have no problems paying $16 for a mix cd by a DJ that I like at the local small indy store if that is the only place to find it. It all depends if the music I want is on sell and if the price is right.

I buy used music at the local independent music store, but I work at Best Buy and get a discount, so all my new release picks come from there.

I buy all of my music from Best Buy. I honestly can't remember buying a CD from anywhere else.
