Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted January 21, 2005 They must have something against jazz drummers. Neal Peart #1? bah. Don't know Terry Bozzio. My 5: 1. Bonham 2. Baker 3. Moon 4. Buford 5. Copeland Hate Blink 182 all you want, but Barker should be higher than 81.

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 They must have something against jazz drummers. Neal Peart #1? bah. Don't know Terry Bozzio. My 5: 1. Bonham 2. Baker 3. Moon 4. Buford 5. Copeland Hate Blink 182 all you want, but Barker should be higher than 81. Bozzio did some good work with Zappa in the 70s. Oh, and Buddy Rich could musically and literally beat the shit out of all these drummers.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 Hey, 4 of those 100 have been in Pearl Jam at 1 point or another. That's all I got.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 D00DZ NEIL PEART HAS LIKE 50 DIFFERENT PIECES TO HIS KIT GOD HE'S THE BEST
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 He is the best.
KanadianKrusty 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 The list may be shit but Neil Peart *IS* one beast of a drummer, and Inc's comment applies much more to Portnoy who is generally overrated (8th seems fair here). EDIT: And McBrain over Scott Travis? BWAHAHAHA!
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 I found it interesting that they managed to list Ringo and Zak Starkey back to back.
godthedog 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 i'd like to believe that peart IS the best drummer ever, just because that makes it so much funnier to think about how horrible a band rush is.
Guest BrokenWings Report post Posted January 22, 2005 Hate Blink 182 all you want, but Barker should be higher than 81. Pretty much what I thought reading the list. Surprised SOAD isn't higher. Also surprised Lars is 62.
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 Nicko McBrain is a horrible drummer. All he is capable of is holding the beat for a group of far superior musicians. I guess that makes him great by association.
KanadianKrusty 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 Nicko McBrain is a horrible drummer Precisely, I've always had the feeling that on the first few albums after Clive Burr's (GREAT drummer who would probably be on the list if it wasn't for that MS disease thing) departure from Maiden, Harris was holding back a bit for McBrain. pochorenella 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 I won't argue with Neil Peart being Number 1, However I do have a few quick observations: - Matt Cameron (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam) should be in the Top 10. - Jeff Porcaro (Toto) should've been higher. - Eric Carr (Kiss) should've been included. - Tommy Lee (Motley Crue) should've been included. Not a total piece of crap, as was their previous Best Guitar players list. Again, I find hard to fault the Number one choice.
Guest Smues Report post Posted January 22, 2005 Buddy Rich isn't on the list. This list sucks. The end.
TheBigSwigg 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 What, no Ted Kirkpatrick?
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 I was surprised to see Chad Smith so low. He really is one hell of a drummer.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 Chad Smith is hell of a drummer. They mentioned metal drummers, and the lack of Nick Menza on this list is quite surprising.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 25. Max Weinberg (E Street Band) Just how good a drummr is Weinberg? Is this a legit ranking, or more because he's well known.
Murmuring Beast 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 I'm glad that Hal Blaine is on the list. Ringo is the best drummer ever, though.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted January 22, 2005 Was this subtitled "of rock and roll" by any chance? Because they've got to be kidding, even for a list, y'know? Chester Thompson and Ansley Dunbar were also both in the Mothers. Banky-You should try the Frank Zappa album Sheik Yerbouti. Bozzio's apeshit on there. He's really more impressive to watch, though, as he's incredibly intense. They do a closeup on his kit on the Baby Snakes DVD during a solo, and he looks like Animal the muppet going bonkers, only everything is on.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 I best remember Chester Thompson for taking over the Genesis drums when Collins moved to the mic, and Aynsley Dunbar for playing with Journey during their proggier experimental days. As for the Zappa drummers, Bozzio was good, no doubt, but my preference leans towards Wackerman. He kept some insane time sigs (as per Zappa, of course) and has been damn good in everything I've heard from him. Most Zappa fans haven't forgiven him for using Simmons electronic drums during the '84 tour though.
Guest macheteofodin Report post Posted January 22, 2005 No Buddy Rich? No Chris Pennie? Blasphemy!
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted January 22, 2005 I think I like Ian Underwood best of Zappa drummers.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 Thank God I wasn't the only one to express outrage over Buddy Rich's omission. Hey next time I'm home, I'm gonna check my basement. I think my dad has copies of the Buddy Rich bus tapes. Oh man. A transcript, it seems.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 Phil Selway of Radiohead should be on that list. One hell of a great drummer.
The Metal Maniac 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 Nicko McBrain is a horrible drummer. All he is capable of is holding the beat for a group of far superior musicians. You're off your rocker. McBrain is far from a "horrible" drummer.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 Phil Selway of Radiohead should be on that list. One hell of a great drummer. Selway keeps up with some weird shit but he hasn't demonstrated anything exemplary. But he does do a good job with what they give him to work with.
mister foozel 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 They mentioned metal drummers, and the lack of Nick Menza on this list is quite surprising. Agreed. I also think that Lars Ulrich should be nowhere near a BEST drummers list, but I guess he is in METALLICA, so he HAS to be on it.
