Nighthawk

Most consistently enjoyable actors.

Recommended Posts

This is to talk about actors who have the highest ratio of movies you like vs movies you don't like.

I like every Schwarzenegger movie from Conan on with the exception of two: Batman and Robin, and End of Days. I like his action roles far more than his comedies, but I can still enjoy those most any time.

Cliche as it is, I like every Johnny Depp movie I've seen, but I haven't watched several of them.

There are a few more whose performance I can enjoy even in a sub par movie, but I thought I'd limit it to cases where I liked the movie as a whole.

Johnny Depp, as mentioned. Each movie, each character, is so different from the last, that its entirely amazing. Even if its a movie thats not that great, or as a cliched plot, he makes it watchable, and more times than not, enjoyable.

Though I've just recently begun with the fandom, the second enjoyable actor I'd list is Christopher Walken. Again, I'm still new and I've only viewed a few of his movies {Dead Zone, Batman Returns, Nick of Time, Sleepy Hollow...and the 'Weapon of Choice' video, if that can be included} but I'm definetly enjoying everything thus far.

Bill Paxton is awesome in everything and can do anything. I may have not loved every movie he has been in, but his performances are always enjoyable.

Tom Hanks. We're talking about a 98% enjoyment rate here, with You've Got Mail being the only one I have seen that I didn't like. And I loved the shit out of Castaway, which should be insane bonus points cause he is the movie.

James Woods. I may not like every movie he's in, but the man is awesome. He takes these garbage nothing characters and makes them great, like Lester Diamond from Casino. Willem Dafoe is somewhat similar too.

Bruce Willis.

While I never dug him in his "light comedies", I can always enjoy him in a good action flick. Die Hard trilogy and Pulp Fiction spring to mind.

John Cazale.

Only ever in five movies: The Godfather, The Conversation, The Godfather: Part II, Dog Day Afternoon, The Deer Hunter.

Thus the one actor to get 100%, aside from people in just one movie.

Somebody I always like watching even when the movie's shit: Crispin Glover. That Doors movie? Terrible. But all I had to hear was Crispin Glover as Andy Warhol and I'm watching the bitch. He also pushed part IV over the edge as my favorite Friday the 13th.

R. Lee Ermey is another one. He made me like the TCM remake. When he and Glover were together in Willard, that was a dream team for me.

I like every movie Brad Pitt has ever been in, with the exception of Meet Joe Black, which I still watch and enjoy in a so-awful-it's-funny sort of way.

Sean Connery definitely comes to mind for this thread. I've liked pretty much everything I've ever seen him in.

A good example of his personal value to a movie is Highlander. The movie comes across as a mediocre ** movie during the early parts when he's there, but then his character dies, and the movie absolutely goes to hell. As soon as he goes, it turns into the most boring, unwatchable piece of crap I've ever seen in my life.

I'm not a Connery fan, he seems to rest on a reputation and never plays anything remotely challenging.

Harold Ramis was awesome in Ghostbusters and doesn't act enough. I could never hate Bill Bailey, Johnny Depp, Bill Nighy or Ron Perlman, to name a few.

Randy Quaid (So long as he's being an idiot of some kind)

Lou Diamond Phillips (Even though I've seen like maybe five of his movies)

John Turturro (Once again, haven't seen a good portion of his body of work)

Alan Rickman
