strummer Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 I'm still in shock over Mitch Hedberg dying, I haven't felt like this since the day Owen died. The first celebrity death that truly got to me was Farley's. It feels weird to be this depressed over someone I never knew or met, so has anyone else just been devastated by certain celebrity deaths? RIP Mitch, you'll never be forgotten RIP Owen, you'll never be forgotten RIP Farley, you'll never be forgotten
algrim Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Phil Hartman Rodney Dangerfield Marlon Brando
Special K Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Pretty much just Phil Hartman. Oh, and Cobain.
Slayer Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 I wouldn't say I've ever been hit by a celebrities death, since I don't know any of them personally (and if I do, they're not dead yet), but there were deaths that did catch me off guard to where I can remember where I was when I heard about them Cobain Farley Hartman Owen John Candy (yeah, in retrospect his was expected, but I loved him when I was a kid) Chuck Schuldiner (okay, his was expected too, but I was a big fan, so if any death did touch me, I suppose this would be it)
GreatWhiteNope Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Michael Hutchence Phil Hartman Owen
UZI Suicide Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Owen Hart Tupac Shakur Mitch Hedberg Chris Farley Layne Staley
2GOLD Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Hartman, Owen and Candy. And though it didn't hit me at a personal level and he wasn't much of a known celebrity to some when he died, the death of original Drowning Pool lead singer Dave Williams shocked the hell out of me when it happened.
Guest ian. Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Layne Staley's death was the only one that got to me. I knew it was coming, but didn't really want him to go.
Vern Gagne Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Those three for me has well. Mostly, because they didn't necessarily die at their own doing, or weren't like Dangerfield, who was old and sick.
bob_barron Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Phil Hartman's death really affected me. He was one of my favourite SNL castmembers and his death (especially right after Farley's) really upset me. Bulldog's death was horrible. I was depressed for a while afterwards and that week in public speaking we had to eulogies so as tribute I improvised a 7 minute eulogy. I was also very upset when Perfect and John Ritter died but I got over it quickly
The Metal Maniac Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 The only celebrity death that bugged me enough to even mention it was Dimebag Darrell. Totally out of left field, and realy tragic. Also the closest I've ever come to mourning for a celebrity. We smoked a J in his honor while listening to "Cemetary Gates"
syxx2001 Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 Tupac was more surprising than upsetting. Phil Hartman, and I wasnt even that big of a fan. I just loved him in Houseguest and Small Soldiers. It was just the way he went out that was upsetting. Notorious B.I.G., it was upsetting cause I was like "WTF? Again?".
Guest Arnold_OldSchool Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 Cried for Reggie White Rodney upset me Ditto Owen

Vyce Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 No celebrity death has ever really brought a tear, but a few have bothered me. Cobain way back in the day. Owen, because, of course, I'm a wrestling geek. And his death, unlike the other 3,394 wrestling deaths we've had in the last 10 years, was so completely sudden and tragic. Recently, John Ritter. Which I sort of can't explain, because I can't really say I was a big Ritter fan, in that I never really watched much of his work. But it bugged me because he actually seemed to be a genuinely nice guy, which seems to be a rarity in Hollywood. CBenoit brought up the one celebrity death that really bothered me - Brandon Lee. I was becoming a big fan of the guy, and to this day I firmly believe that, had he lived, he would have become a HUGE star in Hollywood.
Guest dreamer420 Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 Hunter S. Thompson's recent death got to me. I cried that night because he is my all time hero. John Ritter was very sad and unexpected. And obviously Owen Hart.
B. Brian Brunzell Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 Owen Hart Johnny Cash Ray Charles Brandon Lee Layne Staley
tominator89 Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 Ronald Reagan. I can't look at the 80's and my childhood the same with him being gone.
Darthtiki Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 Ronald Reagan. I can't look at the 80's and my childhood the same with him being gone. I second that, Reagan was a personal hero to me, I remember last year the day he died was the the day before I headed to Disneyland for my birthday trip and I was bummed that I couldn't get to the library to view the casket. However, I was still at Disneyland, where on Main Street they had the flags at half and where President Reagan co-hosted the opening ceremonies 50 years ago this July. Also, Ritter was one that really got to me too. I remember seeing him at Disney World a couple months 8 Simple Rules premiered doing a press junket and he was so full of life and personable interacting with the people watching him being interviewed. I regret during one of his breaks not yelling "Ted ruled".
