KingPK 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2005 You've probably noticed that in a few folders polls have appeared asking wether or not said folder should stay (Examples: Get Your Learn On and Testing). This is because we're planning on doing a little (long-needed IMO) spring cleaning around here, eliminating folders that have little traffic and adding others. Here's what we've come up with (NOTE: This is preliminary, and not the exact folders or order which they will appear) Wrestling WWE- Naturally TNA - As long as they're around, no reason to get rid of it just yet MMA/Boxing - This is worth trying out, as there has been some good MMA discussion in the Misc. Promotions folder, so it having a folder of it's own should help that flourish. Adding boxing to it should help further. Other Promotions - encompassing US Indies, Mexico, Europe and Puro (which gets little traffic by itself) Old School - Bringing this one back for discussion of WCW, the Attitude Era and so on. We're still debating what to do with Tape Trading. Pop Culture Current Events - How would people feel if this was expanded to include historical discussions as well (i.e. WWII)? Sports Movies/DVD/TV Music Computers/Tech Help Video Games and Toys Literature & Comics Food Love, Sex & Dating (Which definitely could use a new name IMO) Forums Stuff The Junk Drawer - the GC/HD combo whose name I came up with . It would have subfolders for cool links people post and other stuff (which we're open to suggestions for) Site Feedback The Classic Threads will stay, though we are still discussing what to do with the Article Archives. GreatWhiteNope 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2005 You just said we were consolidating and now you're proposing bringing back 2 folders (Food and Shopping and Old School) which were merged previously for purposes of consolidation. I'd probably avoid those conversations, but I'm a fairly regular poster so less of me might help. I say give it a try, though. Food Whoa, a comeback!? Love, Sex & Dating (Which definitely could use a new name IMO) I say it should be deleted entirely. This is a wrestling board, and while discussions like fans of certain bands and TV shows or political commentary will break out as part of any group of people (and thus why we have forums like those), there's no need to have a forum to share your stories about the day your penis was acting weird. Modern Man's Hustle 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2005 I think that making Current Events into some sort of Historical Events folder is a great idea, as I'm sure there are those here who have an interest in history but don't want to get involved in the "OMG LEFT WING OMG RIGHT WING OMG HIPPIE" circle jerk that spawns it's own messageboards. Cut down on the wrestling folders, though, seriously. TNA isn't a big enough competitor to warrant it's own folder, so it should be lumped into Misc. Promotions. Hardcore Discussion is a terrible name anyway, but combining it with General Discussion just means in between people calling each other douchebags there'll be a funny story by Carnivalizcoming about how he ate a strangely colored candy corn or something. AlaskanHero 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2005 I say if TNA gets the T.V deal that it should remain it's own folder. However if it doesn't, it should become a sub-folder of Misc. Promotions. TNA isn't quite small enough to be a true indy fed, but it's not all that much bigger so it probably doesn't need a forum to itself unless it gets T.V. Yeah, looking around I noticed that there was plenty of discussion about wrestling's past in there already. We could just call it "General and Old School Wrestling" or something, or keep the original name, whatever. TNA's the de-facto #2 in North America, so it shouldn't be lumped in with the rest of the promotions, so I like the subfolder idea. Same for Puro if we'd get more than four puro threads a month. KingPK 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2005 Yeah they're similar, and boxing threads sometimes get lost in discussions about the Big Four (or five, including soccer) so maybe separating it would help. And it's not like we're combining every wrestling folder into one giant one (which has been brought up); just two or three other folders, that's it. Styles 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2005 For what it's worth I like the MMA/Boxing folder idea. Keep TNA seperate. Merging Puro into Misc is a good idea. You could probably combine the current anemic CE with Get Your Learn On with your historical discussion idea into one big folder called something like Topical and Educational discussion or News, History and Learning if you prefer. Combining General and HD is probably long overdue but I really don't have a preference. Oh, and you can't have the food folder, we took it and aren't giving it back! Why bother if it would likely be more of the same, though I honestly don't care about the current LS&D. But if you can find a way to incorporate IDRM's genius name for it, that'd be great. I don't see the point in bringing back food. There hasn't been much of an outcry for it that I've seen, but I'm fairly indifferent to that also, so whatever. Sorry, but delete the article archives if they're never gonna be updated, or let the writers update their own sections. Either way, under the proposed scenario, merge the leftovers from the Archives category with Forums Stuff. There'd be no need for two sections with two folders each. I don't know about merging boxing with MMA. I like KingPK's list in the first post, except I think a historical discussion folder should be seperate from CE. However, IMO, it is foolish not to acknowledge that a lot of people here don't give two pins about wrestling anymore. A lot of the old-timers, me included, joined this board eons ago because we were wrestling fans, but we've stayed for the pop culture and other areas. Edit: For those unclear the "Navigation" part in the board wrappers represents the "> TheSmartMarks.com Forums > Forums Stuff > Site Feedback" stuff which currently appears above the forum. There already is a navigation down there.... See the pulldown menu? It is the same thing as board navigation, but in a pull down menu/outline form.
