Guest Report post Posted October 13, 2005 Rockers v Akeem & Big Bossman at WM5. Shockingly fun big v little man match. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I like that match a lot.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2005 I also dug Steiners vs. Shrinkers from Mania IX, but maybe that's just me. I'm inclined to think it is....Kidding. Mick Foley & The Rock vs Randy Orton, Batista & Ric Flair, Wrestlemania 20. For some reason, I've always liked the buildup and execution of this match. It seems to have been overshadowed by everything else that took place on the WM 20 card, but this is still one of my favourite matches. There was a thread in March where you had to make a card of your favourite WM matches, using one from each show, and no using multiple wrestlers, this got my vote for WM20. Just good flow and fun to watch. Prior to SummerSlam 98, there was this big 4-way Tag Title match between Austin/Taker, Mankind/Kane, Rock/D'Lo and the New Age Outlaws. I haven't sat down to watch the match in a few years, but I loved that match when I was younger. Originally Owen, not D-Lo, but Shamrock put a stop to that. Summer 98 kicked ass in all of wrestling. eiker_ir 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2005 ^^ that's the only thing that kinda dissapointed me, i wanted Owen in the match. But hey D'lo is cool too. I loved everything on RAW leading up to Summerslam that year. Everything
Papacita 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2005 I still say the SummerSlam 98 build was the best all-around PPV build ever. I can't think of anything else that comes close.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2005 Perhaps WM 14? Seemed like every match had some build on that show. The Rock/RVD match was actually on a Raw I do believe, they did have a rematch on Smackdown that Van Dam won (then the next Raw I went to RVD jobbed clean to Edge for no real reason). Speaking of RVD stuff from that period how about the matches with Angle? The ones where RVD would stiff Kurt and bust him open and Angle's wife took to the net trashing RVD. The hardway blood looked great on TV.
eiker_ir 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2005 oh i also really like the Jericho-Booker T-RVD match the night after Survivor Series 2002 for the N°1 contender's spot. Jericho doing the Five Star was pretty cool.
Guest Rrrsh Report post Posted October 14, 2005 Guess I won't check out the Garvin/Valentine match then. The problem I have with the Ground Zero match is that it shows the inherent emptiness of Michaels' style. His whole purpose in matches seems to be getting his ass kicked and doing wild overselling. Yeah I know it seems like Shawn never lost to UT, but given the way he was beat down do you really think he could seriously WIN vs. UT without ludicrous interference? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The point is that HBK enraged Tkaer so much that, yah, he would need lots and lots of help to win. It shows that you cant mess with Taker. It was easily the best Taker was ever booked, and HBK made him look like a killer. Not the cartoon dead man stuck in the mid card guy he was in previosu years. Guest sillynigger Report post Posted October 14, 2005 Chris Benoit vs. Steve Austin, RAW 2001. In Benoit's hometown, ending came when Austin had Benoit in a Sharpshooter and Vince called for the bell. No one ever pimps in due to it being overshadowed by their Smackdown Match in the same month, but it was total sex.
Guest BrokenWings Report post Posted October 14, 2005 The aforementioned Benoit -v- Matt Hardy match from the US Title tournament, as well as the Saturn/Raven match from Bash 98. I liked a few more matches from that card, as well, namely Juvi/Kidman and the returning Mysterio -v- awesome heel Jericho. It also had the Eddie/Chavo hair match which was towards the beginning of Chavo's crazy stage. Chavo was also scheduled to take on Stevie Ray before his hair match, but submitted during the handshake as to save his energy for Eddie. I'm not positive which card it was, but I fondly remember a Raven/Saturn/Kanyon three way under Raven's Rules. May have been Road Wild 98.
Kardo 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2005 'Taker vs. Orton in one of his 2002 title defences. I was shocked at how good Orton looked back then. Plus you can't go wrong with a swinging chokeslam as the finish.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2005 In regards to UT I think the best he was ever booked was in the 1998-99 period, at least when it came to in ring (not the Ministry silliness). I watched Souled Out 99 not too long ago and there's a nice forgotten gem with Chavo vs. Norman Smiley. This was the blowoff to the "Norman kills Pepe" angle. PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2005 I enjoyed Valentine/Garvin last time I watched it. Not tremendous, but Garvin never bettered it, I don't think. Jericho/X-Pac/Benoit/Eddie from No Way Out was pretty excellent, as was Eddie/RVD from late 2001(?)

CBright7831 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2005 HHH/Owen from RAW 98 Someone started to bite the other one, and DX and Nation all did run-ins. There were many nearfalls, and one sick piledriver.

King Kamala 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2005 Shawn Michaels Vs Leif Cassidy for the WWF World title from an episode of Raw in the summer of 96 IIRC. Cassidy was a JTTS so I thought this match would be five minutes top but it ended up going 10-12 minutes and being a damn fine match.

BruiserKC 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2005 I enjoyed myself Muta-Windham at SuperBrawl III in Feb. 1993, when Windham took the NWA World title from Muta. Also...when they mention Flair-Steamboat matches Triple H talks up their Wrestlewar '89 battle when Flair regained the title. However, I point to their best match at Clash of the Champions VI at the Superdome when Steamboat beat Flair 2-out-of-3 falls to retain the NWA title...of course Vince will never mention it since it took place on the same day Wrestlemania V happened. AnonymousBroccoli 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2005 I really liked the Hardy vs. Benoit US Title tourney match too. RVD vs. Undertaker from Vengeance '01 was fun, as was RVD vs. Dreamer in the Hardcore Title unification match.
Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2005 I quite liked the whole series of Undertaker-RVD matches. Probably one of the more unlikely pairings where both men work really well together.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2005 A lot of RVD stuff is like that. Guys you think he will have amazing ***** matches with (Benoit, Eddie) tend to be mildly disappointing at times, yet he has great matches with some big ass dudes like UT and Bam Bam Bieglow. RVD/UT from Vengeance 01 was the best match on that show (yes, better than either Jericho title match on the show). Anyone want to see RVD go after UT at WM this coming year? Sure he'd job but it might be a fun match.

Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2005 Raven vs. Saturn from Fall Brawl 98 was an excellent match in my eyes. It had a lot of good stuff going for it, and it pulled the crowd out of a coma, had a great Kidman face turn, hot false finishes, and Lodi getting killed to the world's delight. It was a great way to end the feud, saved the night, and was one of the few bright spots for WCW during that time.
