MLB: Week 1 (4/2-4/9)

Recommended Posts

After every Mets HR, they play reggaeton throughout the stadium. I like when Wright hits one out.

That is kinda awkward, but it'd be even stranger if they abruptly changed the music for the white guys.

Yes, it would. If Wagner's music caused a shitstorm, that would cause a bigger one.

I'm a little less optimistic about the season after seeing the Jays blow a 6-0 lead over friggin' Tampa Bay. The back end of the rotation and middle relief may not be up to the task yet.

Rudy Seanez is trying to match his spring ERA it looks like. And now they have to waste Papelbon on a wet mound in what should be a blowout. Thanks Rudy.

These Orioles announcers are terrible. They're taking this game way too seriously.

Did you hear them in the last couple innings when Youkilis was up? They mentioned Moneyball and how it was a book about OBP, and even though Youks gets on base he doesn't steal bases. Ugh.

I wonder if Mo will actually get in a game this weekend just to get some work, assuming of course the Yankees don't come back and take the lead tonight. I'd think Joe wouldn't want the whole week to go by without giving him at least an inning.

Brewers are 4-0, after at 3-1 victory over the D-Backs last night at Miller Park. Starting pitcher Dave Bush, acquired in the Overbay trade with Toronto, looked very good. Derrick Turnbow now has four saves. Go Milwaukee!

The Crew goes to 5-0 with a Carlos Lee game winning hit. Granted these victories have been against subpar team, the Brewers are looking good so far.

Good enough that they are finally getting some recognition from ESPN, which is nice. Danny Kolb gets the win, which ends Turnbow's save streak at 4-0, but that's OK. Prince Fielder also homered and had three hits, so it looks like his early season offensive struggles are over for the most part.

I will be at Miller Park tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing if the Brewers can complete another sweep.

Braves plate 2 in the 9th, we're still going to lose, but now that means we've scored 48 runs in 6 games for an 8 run a game average. And yet we're 3-3. Boozah pitching.

The Os need to institute a new policy whereas they wont sell tickets to anyone living in NY or Boston. Id rather see them play in an empty stadium than to see them play games where the fans are turning the whole series into a road series..

Something makes me think that management won't want 19 of their 81 home dates playing in front of an empty stadium when out of towners all but guarantee sell outs. Baltimore is a nice town and you guys have a well above average stadium, so take it as a compliment that so many people are willing to travel.

So, basically every home run that was hit in Minute Maid tonight should have been an easy fly out. It's benefitted both sides, though, so nobody's really in a position to complain.

damn area blackouts and Direct TV not carrying Baltimore MASN here. Looked like a fun pitcher's duel to watch after yesterday's offense-fest. Least I get to see the game tommorow in person. Neener-neener Marvin *waves his Red Sox flag about*

Fun game tonight, killed my plans by starting after an hour and a half rain delay though.

Schilling looked good again, he went 7 with 4K...the only run was a Matos homer that barely left the yard. Timlin looks much improved from last year and Papelbon seems too good to be true.

Scratch that, Vidro finally hit a definitive home run. 12-7 Nationals.

Man, what's been going on with the Astros' pitching lately?

Being a native Houstonian, and this being my first post in the baseball thread, I feel qualified to play expert. I wouldn't say that there's been anything bad going on with the Astros pitching. In the first game against the Marlins, Roy O looked phemonenomanomanomanal. The second game, Pettitte got slapped around a good bit, but I deduce that's because he got a late start in spring training, so that was basically like his third spring start, and the Marlins are playing a bunch of rooks, so there's not really a book on em yet, and Joe Girardi was Pettitte's old catcher during the Yank-me days. In Game 3, Wandy Rodriguez looked about as good as he ever does. Brandon Backe looked alot sharper last nite than he has all spring (3 hits, 1ER, 6IP) which is crucial until Clemens comes back. Tonite, Roy looked less than stellar, but meh...And we've got this rookie pitcher, Taylor Buchholz, that's been freakin' great all spring and when he pitched last nite. He looks like he's gonna make the Billy Wagner trade look really good for Houston...judging by his spring work and his 3 innings last nite, but his first start is on Tuesday against San Fran, so that'll be interesting. What's really good for us 'Stros fans is Berkman and Wilson hitting 3 HRs each in three games and Berkman having back to back to back three RBI nights. Berkman, Ensberg, Wilson, and Lane in a row looks like it might have potential to turn around Houston's offensive woes. At least we remain hopeful. And that is the weekly state of the Astros address, since...nobody talks about the Astros.
