Try the DragonLance Chronicles by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan is good but the books run from 600-1200 pages per book. The original Dragonlance Chronicles is good, as well as the somewhat sequel trilogy involving Caramon & Raistlin (which is a REALLY well done series, especially if you're a Raistlin fan). The franchise suffers, though, from the same problems as Star Wars' extended universe, in that the quality of the supplemental books really varies. If you still want some good sci-fi / fantasy series, I suggest Tad William's 4-volume "Otherworld" series (which is more sci-fi, but has many fantasy elements), and a strong recommendation for China Mieville's New Crobuzon series. Mieville's series is some of the best sci-fi / fantasy published today, although the books really transcend genres. Oh, and I absolutely loathe Joyce's Ulysses. What a horrid mess of a novel.

Jesus, IDRM, next time give the rest of us a chance with the fresh meat.

That's a little broad but certain portions of the press - the usual suspects, of course - are portraying the Minutemen as if they're only a step up from a lynch mob, ready, willing and eager to brutalize the next dirty Mexican who dares step foot on this side of the border. The idea of civilians patrolling the borders kind of makes me uneasy, but what can you do? Our government has shown that they absolutely won't do a goddamn thing to stop illegal immigration, and as soon as someone does suggest that measures be taken, half of the politicians (you know which ones) start crying about racial / ethnic discrimination, and the other half (you also know which ones) start talking about how these individuals are valuable members of our work force, illegal or not. It's a bit of a fucking show to require Canadians to present passports to get into this country and yet no one is doing a goddam thing about Mexico when we KNOW that some questionable individuals (read: terrorists) have come through down there. All I know is, the politicians can only do this little tap dance for so long before someone gets pissed off and takes it upon themselves to handle the problem and voila, groups like the Minutemen pop up. Goddamn, I just realized that Lou Dobbs has persuaded me to his side.

He just happened to give some high school girls vodka and pot, what, just in the spirit of building the teacher - student relationship? Dude wanted to get laid. Too bad he got ratted out.

No one's saying that. No one's absolved. Some of us, though, are amused by the usual hypocrisy of a politician pointing fingers at another for doing shit that they probably have done themselves.

Hmm, a religion has a problem with homosexual pedophiles. So, the solution is to SUPPORT homosexuality more? Yeah, that makes sense. -=Mike You're equating homosexuality and pedophilia together far too much. Pedophiles aren't pedophiles because they're homos; the pathology is much, much deeper than that. And I'm sure there are a great many cases of molestation involved priests assaulting female children. As an aside, while I'm certainly not against the Church allowing priests to marry, it's not as if the pedophilia problems would not have happened if they had allowed it years ago. Pedophiles are going to be pedophiles no matter what, it's not as if they woke up one day and said, "Gee, I'm a priest, so I'm forced to live a life of celibacy......guess I'll go stick my hand down the altar boy's pants!" The priests who did that shit could have easily just opted to have sex with an adult woman or man (lord knows, the protestant preachers don't seem to have any problem doing that). They didn't, because that wasn't their sexual preference. So allowing them to marry, really, wouldn't have done shit. It's not as if the celibacy perverted them, they were that way to begin with.

You know how people sometimes make lists of what they want to do with their lives? Accomplishments they'd like to acheive, that sort of bullshit. Well, I can honestly tell you that one of things I wish to do, just once, in my life, is to give someone an Anderson-quality spinebuster in a fight. I'm not sure where it ranks on my list, but it's up there.

You get nothing from me until I see a pic. Although you seem a little petite for a man, which is a plus.

You can't deny, though, that the horror that is Mayer-lution is terribly fascinating.

He's like a reverse Michael Schiavo, only, you know, slightly less morally reprehensible.

At my local library, it's exceptionally easy to watch hardcore pornography on the public computers without getting caught. The most frequent benefactors of this oversight appear to be a) young black males and b) old white men.

I just use rabbit punches. Or a good shot to the kidney, it works on a guy any size. And it makes me giggle to see them writhe in pain.

Because Jericho, Guerrero, and Benoit are much, much, much, much, MUCH better in the ring than Rhyno. And have more charisma. MUCH more charisma. Yes, even Benoit - what he may lack in promos, he more than makes up for in ringwork, in his ability to get the crowd emotionally connected with his matches. Really, I never had anything against the guy, but I never really got why people were THAT into him, outside of the ECW connection (and though I'm sure it's blasphemy to say this, really, the adjective that should forever be associated with ECW is "different" rather than "good" or "quality"). He could have been passable in the midcard, but they jobbed him out, they didn't have any plans to push him at all beyond that point, so hell, might as well let him go. Bring on the next mediocre, boring, green OVW guy. Or just bring up Burchill, which would satisfy me greatly.

Poll: Everybody unhappy about everything
Vyce replied to Jobber of the Week's topic in Current Events
Pretty much. Which is ridiculous, when you think about it. Outside of the gas prices, our economy is doing quite well for itself (it's not gangbusters, but it's far from being at the level where people should be largely negative about it). It's rather silly, but one factor pretty much affects people's entire moods, even though most of the other evidence indicates that the economy isn't that bad. This is all part of why, in general, I loathe people as a species. -
Glavine couldn't throw a fucking pitch tonight that was above anyone's knees. At least the Nats won. Wilkerson owned that game.
-
Fire him already. He's meaingless at this point. He can go down to TNA and wrestle in a billion cage matches.
-
I love the show. In fact, I prefer it over the latest fanboy "it" show, "Lost." The ratings for the program have steadily grown over time, too, so for once Fox looks to have an hour-long drama that isn't automatically on life support and about to be Schiavoed.

There you go, you secularists pushing your progressive agenda.

Whew, thank god. It's just so comforting to know that, despite all of the myriad of problems that this society is facing on many different fronts, at least the fags can't marry one another. I, for one, shall sleep in peace and tranquility tonight.

I feel nothing but pity for them. Well, pity and contempt. -
Can I just say that Cinnamon Sugar french fries sounds like the greatest thing ever. I think we've discovered the latest taste sensation.

Yeah, that'll do it.

I'm begging MikeSC to show up in this thread. Because the "every match in the cage match" thing is fucking indefensible. And let's not gloss over the fact that apparently some of these matches are gimmick matches WITHIN a gimmick match.
