So lately I've loved chick bands.

Recommended Posts

Lately, I've found, my tastes have run to feminine punky/eclectic bands, e.g.

Le Tigre, Yeah yeah yeahs, Sleater Kinny, Cibbo Matto, Blonde Redhead, Sonic Youth (half counts.) Anyway, given my latest preferences, any good bands? I don't much like Bikini Kill, good lyrics, don't like the music much.

I like the Distillers, although they seem to be very hit and miss among others. The first two albums were ace though.

The Plasmatics are pretty terrible, but Wendy O Williams is about as outrageous as a psycho chick can be. Awful voice, but enjoyable. She once did a duet with Motorhead. The song? "Stand by your man." If only those two could have borne a child...

<--loves The Plasmatics.

I don't know too many chick-fronted bands that haven't been mentioned in the same vein as these styles...but I know there's some metal band with a chick singer...Walls of Jericho, maybe?

Can't go wrong with the Go-Go's. And yes, I'm serious.

My favourite mostly-girl band is That Dog. Awesome indie rock with 3-part harmonies and the occasional violin thrown in. Their experimental punk counterpart is Bonfire Madigan, who have to be seen to be believed. Great stage presence.

On the harder side, you've got Kittie, Babes in Toyland, the Lunachicks, and Daisy Chainsaw.

Some poppier all-grrrrl or female-fronted bands: Velocity Girl, Letters to Cleo, Bettie Serveert, the Fastbacks, Tiger Trap, and of course, Shonen Knife.

I recently found this band called Pint Size, they're a punk type band with a female singer, the rest of the band is males though. They have some cool song titles and lyrics, but I don't like the girl's voice. Maybe you would if you like female singers. They have my favorite guitarist Paul Gilbert of Racer X/Mr Big on guitar going by the name of Dick Image for whatever reason. You can listen to some songs on the website http://www.pintsizerocks.com

Lolita Storm. Three hyper chick screamers over dirty jungle beats.

As for Elastica, I would reccommend their self-titled album. It's much more accessible than The Menace.

I've always been a big fan of the Cranberries and Auf Der Maur is pretty cool.

Antigone Rising

I just heard of these girls/women the other day. I looked up a bunch of their stuff on the media player and they're not bad.

Not sure if this will work for everyone...

Push It

What!?

Oh! I totally forgot! You should check out Yellow Machinegun. It's insane furious hardcore music... as played by cheery-looking Japanese schoolgirls. It is SO FUCKING INSANE to see an image of the lead singer, who looks like your average cutesy schoolgirl, and then listen to her hate-filled pissed off snarling vocals.

I only know of them a little, it seems likely they would have recordings in Japanese, but all I've heard was in English, with which, as an added bonus, they also have truly, utterly ridiculous lyrics. Exactly what you'd expect from the Japanese.
