Taped 1/26/87; Tampa, FL; Sundome

2/7/87 - included Andre the Giant turning heel and challenging Hulk Hogan to a title match at WrestleMania III during a Piper's Pit segment:

WWF IC Champion Randy Savage (w/ Miss Elizabeth) pinned David Gold in a non-title match at 1:39 with the flying elbow drop

Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart (w/ Jimmy Hart) defeated WWF Tag Team Champions Davey Boy Smith & the Dynamite Kid to win the titles at 2:57 following a double DDT and the Hart Attack on Davey Boy Smith; Smith wrestled the entire match by himself after Dynamite was knocked out before the bout began by Jimmy Hart's megaphone; Danny Davis was the referee for the bout and spent the duration of the match checking on the Dynamite Kid as the challengers illegally double teamed Smith (The Hart Foundation)

Hercules (w/ Bobby Heenan) defeated Buddy Blake via submission with the full nelson at 3:06

Outback Jack pinned Steve Lombardi at 2:49 with a bulldog (Jack's TV debut; he was introduced by Hillbilly Jim before the match)

B. Brian Blair & Jim Brunzell defeated Al Navarro & Jimmy Jack Funk at 5:29 when Brunzell pinned Navaroo with a dropkick

Butch Reed (w/ Slick) pinned David Stoudemire at 1:51 with a gorilla press slam and elbow drop; after the match, Slick cut a promo on Tito Santana

Is that the same one from Wraestlemania 8 they show right before the match? The one where Sid shoves a bunch of papers into his mouth when his doesn't get #1 contender. That always cracked me up.

Yeah, it's all there. Sid's paper tear, Flair in the sweater, Sid's hilarious promo afterwards...

ok, I'm a bit lost. Why was Hogan annouced as the challanger but later it became Macho instead?

I believe Hogan was contemplating retirement or something, so they went with Savage instead.

The storyline, as I remembered was that Hogan requested a match with Sid instead because of his actions at SNME and that Hogan decided that it would be his farewell match.

Savage, was named the de-facto #1 contender, to which Flair decided to play mind games and started the "Liz was mine, before she was yours" angle.

I don't think Hogan actually *said* it would be his farewell match. He just said there was a big possibilty it would be. During the introduction for WrestleMania VIII, Vince saids, "And The Immortal Hulk Hogan battles Sid Justice in what COULD BE Hogan's last match!"

So whats the story with this guy? I've never heard of him before, but hes up there with Jack Evans in the "Gravity be Damned" department. I'm impressed, even though hes just busting out the same spots over and over.

Why did Hogan actually leave? Was it to do a movie, or was it somehow related to the steroid stuff going on at the time?

It was a combination of both I believe. Clearly WWE was shifting away from the big muscled guys for the time being, and focusing their attention more on the less muscular guys like Bret, Shawn, Piper, Flair, Savage, Yokozuna, etc. While guys like Hogan, Sid, Bulldog, Warrior, etc. were quickly either swepped under the rug or shown the door until the steroid investigation was over.

Guest NYankees

I think I remember an interview between Vince and Hogan where they talked about a potential retirement. To think it was 1992 makes it even more funny. While watching Hogan Knows Best the other night, Hogan admits to staying in the sport too long.

Rudo, have you seen Beef and Excalibur's Cage Of (Life) Death promo? I remember it being on YouTube somewhere, I'll try and find it soon. Awesome stuff.

Oh yeah. Absolutely hilarious stuff. Beefs desire to wrestle a bear is great.

"That's good because I am afraid of both cages and of death"

That reminds me...it's such a shame that, for legal reasons, the IWS can't release some of their 2004 events yet because Beef vs. Bear was a comedy match for the ages...a "bear hug" never received such a huge pop!

IIRC, they also mentioned something about Sid accusing Jack Tunney of "favortism" towards Hogan, which they forgot about after SNME.
