Eddy turning heel?

Recommended Posts

Guest Loss

There are rumors going around that Eddy Guerrero will be turning on Rey Misterio in their tag match tomorrow night at the PPV, and that seems like a huge and unnecessary risk to me, considering that he's one of the two or three most popular characters on Smackdown and that it's only going to anger the Latino audience, who Guerrero and Misterio are pretty much singlehandedly responsible for attracting to the product.

Of course, this could have the exact same reverse effect his heel turn had in 2003 where it just makes him even more over as a babyface. We shall see.

The Heel turn could only work if Eddie beat the living hell out of Rey and left in lying in the middle of the ring, plus if he cheated to win he'd have to do it without a smile and stop playing it off to the fans, or just stop cheating altogether. If Eddie did turn heel it would be good for a feud with Cena after Wrestlemania.

If he turned into the uber PLAY BY THE RULES heel and turned on Rey as he tried to Cheat 2 Win, that is what would make it. He would have to play the "i'm sorry i cheated and i'll never do it again!" and then go and cheat anyway, but play it up as HA, I OUTSMARTED EVERYONE! and not just "hee hee, look what i got away with"

Oh well at least both Eddie & Mysterio will have something to do at WrestleMania now.

I'd be morbidly curious to see Rey as a heel, but I really don't see it happening. I wonder how they'd effectively pull it off because after feuding with Eddie, who could he face that'd he'd get booed against? Cena? A returning RVD? The list is pretty short. Same thing with Eddie, I suppose though. I'm not quite convinced either of them would make an effective heel to be honest. They're both too popular.

Eddie has been a really good heel in the past, but granted that was before he got as popular as he is now.

keep in mind his last heel turn attempt at the start of the WWE recognizing that the Latino fanbase from UPN was backing Eddy got aborted because the fans just wasn't buying Eddy as a Heel.

I could see Eddy as a heel. If he beat the shit out of Rey before stealing his mask, forcing Rey to run to the back hiding his face. Then you see Eddy spit on the mask or something.

Although, I'm a Rey Mysterio Jr. mark, so Eddy just looking at Rey the wrong way would be enough to make me boo him.

This is sure to be a clusterfuck of a disaster IMO. It couldn't have come at a worse time. :( The people won't buy it.

Eddie would have to "go straight" in order to become a heel.

Turning on Rey would confuse the fuck out of the audience and be a disaster.

Rey will always have to play the underdog so naturally Eddie will have to take the other part as a heel. And I think it will demand more from Eddie to play a good heel than it takes for him to play his current character - Latino with an upper body spasm.

I mean...hey...if he can be really popular with the Latino audience he can be really hated by them too. They won't stop watching just 'cause they can't cheer the guy...they may just keep watching to see him get hbis ass kicked.

Rey is almost comparable to Eddie in heat, which would assuage the turn - Tajiri, at that point and at ANY point in his career, wasn't as over as Eddie was in June of 2003.

Plus, the heel turn then wasn't ever taken in a serious manner - he hugged his car afterwards and played to the crowd, for instance. When Tajiri left for a short period of time, the announcers acted as if it was "good ole Eddie" back to his old persona.

Screw the Eddie heel turn and just have them team up for a while (since Eddie is midcard for life now) and have them face Benoit/Y2J at Mania. If anybody needs to turn heel or a tweener is RVD when he returns.

It could be the post-WWE-title-disaster boost Eddie's career needs but I think it's a risk that will most likely fail. Eddie's far too popular and his current character wouldn't likely work as a heel. The only option is to change his whole character ... unlikely.

And WWE badly needs to keep its Hispanic audience. While, short-term, Eddie vs. Rey could draw Hispanic audiences (and non-Hispanic, probably) long-term, I don't think heel Eddie would work

The only thing a heel turn will mean is him facing faces instead of heels.

I don't see how Eddie being a heel will make any difference. The fans will still cheer when he cheats. They'll still pop for the lowrider entrance. It's Eddie.

I also don't understand the fuss over this. Eddie can work heel or face and pull it off...his most successful run ever argueably was as a heel in AAA. His heel run in WCW was no disaster either. People BUY Eddie as a heel, in both legitmacy terms and likely money terms. And to be honest, from a character stand-point, Eddie tends to be a little cheesy at times in the face role. Remember the booby-trapped lowrider? Or stealing JBL's hat.

You get a heated Eddie/Rey feud, Eddie gets a career boost and more likely than not, this means Eddie is being lined up for Cena post-Mania. I doubt the Hispanic audience will turn off in droves for a heel turn.

Eddie will most likely get the Flair treatment. When the draft occurs, where would Eddie go? My guess is that he'll stay on SD! If that's the case, he won't be able to feud with Cena, who's a sure bet to go to Raw. Have him feud with Orton or HBK.

They tried to turn him against Tajiri, they probably aborted it, because him beating on Tajiri blew the roof off the arena

Has Rey ever been a heel?

Off the top of my head, wasn't there a Filthy Animals/M.I.A feud in WCW where the Animals played the heels?

If not, I'm sure the only time Rey has ever been heel, if at all, was as part of the Animals in WCW.

The Filthy Animals were heels during the New Blood vs. Millionaire's Club feud, which I guess made Rey a heel by defauly since he did take part in a beating on Hulk Hogan once.

The way I'd do this is during the draft switch the titleholders (WWE Champ Cena goes to RAW, World Champ Bats goes to SD!) and somehow work from their. I don't think the fans would cheer Cena over Eddie, but a Batista fresh off beating HHH could garner enough steam to convince the fans to boo latino heat.

then again, maybe i'm just crazy

Actually what happen when they lost the tag titles to Team Angle is what keep Eddy a face. A lot of people, not even Jhawk who reviewed it the first time, didn't realize what Eddy was doing during the match. During the match when Eddy was on the apron he was messing around with the fans, he tell him watch he was going to cheat and he would. During the match a pin attempt was made on Tajiri and Eddy came in and broke it up, the ref ran Eddy back and told him to hold onto the ring rope and not do it again. Some of the fans took noticed and started egging Eddy on by chanting Cheat, it was a very light chant. So another pin attempt on Tajiri was made and Eddy went in and broke it up, Eddy ran back to the apron and grabbed the ring rope and gave the ref a very innocent look and told the ref that he was standing there the entire time. Some more fans caught on to what was going on and the chant got a bit louder, so Eddy unraviled the tag rope and made it longer, Eddy was able to walk to the middle of the apron now to try and get closer to Tajiri who I think was in a submission move at the time. The ref took noticed and took the rope from Eddy and started making it shorter, as the ref was doing this Eddy ran in and broke up the submission move (I think thats what happen with the tag rope, I know Eddy made it longer but I'm not 100% sure on who made it shorter again.).

After last night, maybe we'll get Jericho and Benoit vs Rey and Eddie. Jericho and Benoit could win the tag titles (though Tajiri and Regal are a good team), and at WM 21 they could have a non title match between brands to see who the best tag team is... something like that.

Well, it ended up not happening. This company sure has a tendency to give us matches where an angle needs to be shot, only not to deliver any type of angle at all. While I'm glad Eddy wasn't turned heel, they also had the opportunity to shoot an angle with Angle and Michaels last night and didn't do anything at all. The hype for this year's WM is being poorly handled, and all the effort and long-term build seems to only be going into one match, while everything else will have to be thrown together at the last minute.

That could work because Eddy has been getting caught lately and Cole and Tazz are playing up this fact. He could "go straight" because the cheating is costing him too many matches. He'd have to use his cheating to lay a beating on the face rather than playing with the fact that he cheated and didn't get caught.

I'd like to see a heel turn by Eddy. His cheating was fun when he started making it so obvious, playing with the ref and the crowd but it's getting a little old now. I'd like to see it go back to cheating being an integral part of the wrestling story as opposed to an entertainment factor in it.

I think that is deliberate for obvious reasons(HHH?)!

I like the Jericho/Benoit vs. Eddie/Rey match idea, but come on we know that aint happening.

Or if it does, it would only get 5 minutes anyway. Granted, it would be the best 5 minutes of wrestling on the show.
