JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2004 Sure, they put the world title on Vince Russo...and David Arquette. Sure, they put the CW title on Ed Ferrara. Sure, they were extremely disorganized, poorly run, and misused tons of talent. Sure, they had plenty other things wrong with them that I can't fit into this little post. But man, I still miss WCW. I first _really_ got into wrestling in 1999. I'd watch with some buddies, and we'd watch Nitro for an hour, then watch RAW, and then I'd tape the replay of Nitro and watch the last two hours the next day. Then we had Thunder on Wednesday, and pretty soon Smackdown came along. Then Saturday night, and Heat on Sundays, plus two PPVs a month. I think it was a good time to be a wrestling fan. I just wish Ted Turner or somebody rich would get behind a wrestling promotion _somewhere_ to challenge Vince again, but I just don't see that happening. I mean, TNA is nice and all, but it's not like they're on the same level as the WWE right now. So yeah, I miss WCW...does anyone else?

Guest drdrainoscott Report post Posted January 29, 2004 Those were the good old days. I remember coming home from school and sitting down to watch my daily dose of wrestling. Around my area (DC) the schedule was Monday - WCW Pro, Tuesday - WCW Main Event, Wednesday - GWF, Thursday - AWA Classics or something and Friday - WWF Spotlight. This was probably like 13 years ago. I wish I could remember more of what I was watching...
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted January 29, 2004 All I remember watching was Superstars, Challenge, All-American, Mania, Monday Night Raw for WWF (all Sat-Mon) and some WCW B-Shows (I forgot names. Too long ago). Way better than today I think even though wrestlings on almost everyday. WWE: Monday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday TNA: Wednesday Random Indy Shows: Thursday, Friday & Saturday
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 I think one of the problems with WWE is that their B-shows are way too repeat heavy with all the recaps of Raw and SD. To me, that's why Velocity and Heat are passable. I'll watch Confidential as long as I'm not doing something better at the time, and I don't even bother watching the syndicated shows. Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 Call me delusional and insane, but I *loved* WCW from their 'reboot' show where Russo & EZE returned up until their closure. 1999 up to February 2000 really turned me off WCW, but when Russo & Bischoff came in it just seemed like there was SO much new shit happening every week that you just couldnt afford to miss it. I think I was one of very few fans affected that way, but regardless of how bad it was, it made me love WCW again, so I guess Russo did do something right, if only for a select few. I also loved Mark Madden as a commentator during 2000. I've no idea as to the smark mentality towards this man, but I thought he was fucking HILARIOUS. One of my favourite shot-downs of his involved Stevie Ray, and was made during their Australian tour in October of 2000. *Kevin Nash is heading down to ringside to face Sting in a lumber jack match. He brings the Natural Born Thrillers with him as his lumber jacks* Madden - Here comes Big Sexy, ready to pass that torch onto his boys, the NBT's Ray - What torch 'chu talkin' bout Madden!? Madden - The one you held for about forty seconds He only seemed to make insider jokes, but they fucking rocked. Also, towards the end of their lifespan, WCW really began to shine, which was really depressing. I was totally hooked on the Steiner monster angle and the new life breathed into the Cruiser devision was electrifing, something McMahon has never duplicated. *Sigh*. Oh well. Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 Yeah, even though they WCW was crap at the end it was nice to go "ah this sucks," and change it to WCW...and then go "ah this sucks more," and change it back.
BorneAgain 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 Yeah, even though they WCW was crap at the end it was nice to go "ah this sucks," and change it to WCW...and then go "ah this sucks more," and change it back. Actually I think that towards the last three months of their existence, WCW was starting to improve, but of course by then it was too little, too late. I miss WCW as well. Hell I even miss Tony Schiavone for Christ's sake.

Mrnoitaull 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 If anything, I miss the cruiserweight matches with Kid Romeo,Elix,Jun,Three Count, and eve KIDMAN. Hey, eve the hoss matches weren't all that bad. Was it me or was WCW ring smaller than WWE's?
deancoles 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 The ring was smaller and they used stronger ropes which made the high flying stuff easier to do.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 I agree...WCW was starting to get better towards the end...but by then most of the big names weren't even appearing on the shows, and it was just a matter of time before they were either going to get bought out or just killed off by Time Warner because the ratings and revenue were so embarassing. I do miss having an alternative to WWE...and no, NWA-TNA doesn't count.
Vyce 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 I've missed them terribly for years now. I first got into wrestling in mid 1992, and it was WCW that I latched onto, more so than the WWF. That summer WCW had the whole Dangerous Alliance v. every top WCW face going on that summer, and I was hooked from there. I always favored WCW after that. ISportsFan 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 I miss two things about WCW. 1) The random cruiserweight match that was given 15 minutes on Nitros and on PPVs. 2) The competition that it gave Vince so he had to try. The rest of it was totally worthless for the most part. Jason
Guest Report post Posted January 30, 2004 How could you like a company that had a WRITER that was the top heel in the company.........actually it sounds a little familiar (look at SD! a few mths ago) and where SCOTT STEINER was the champion of the company........just horrible.... Before 1997 I loved WCW though.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2004 I miss pre-1999 WCW. I certainly don't miss the Russo & Sullivan run crapfest it was during the last two years of its existance.
Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2004 I like to pretend the few months Sullivan was in charge in late 99/early 2000 or whenever it was never existed. It didn't get much lower than that dreck.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted January 30, 2004 Russo gets alot of blame and rightfully so for his stupid decisions on title reigns and runs but Kevin Sullivan gets off pretty lightly even though he drove off Benoit, Eddy Guerrero, Saturn, and Dean Malenko. To a lesser extent he also drove off Jericho, because even though Bischoff said he would never hold a major title he wasn't as bad as Sullivan who didn't believe he was good enough to hold his jock. Highland 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2004 I watched some WCW and was even a fan of the original nwo angle as well as Booker T, but all in all the only thing I miss about WCW was that it gave me an alternative to WWF; something sorely lacking today. Sorry, folks, but wCw deserved to die. Of course they deserved to get shut down. The point is that I miss the competition, and like the other poster said...it made it so Vince really had to try. Competition is a good thing, man. Right now Vince has a monopoly...and that ain't good. And hell, just having two more shows a week that MIGHT have some good parts to them was awesome. DCMaximo 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2004 By the end, WCW WAS getting better. I just watched Superbrawl Revenge and it was a damn good show with booking that made sense. Steiner (who was still decent back then) was being built as a monster, the cruiserweight division was on a resurrgence with Knoble, Hayashi, Rey, Kidman and Chavo all performing really well, not to mention the push which started for Shane Helms. Hell, there was even a great tag match between Sean O'Haire/ Chuck Palumbo vs Shawn Stasiak/ Mark Jindrak, which you certainly wouldn't predict now.
Si82 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2004 I miss WCW. From around 1996-1998 it was great. Mind you I also liked from 1999 to 2001 as well. At least we have WCW classics every week here in the UK so I can relieve the early 90's of WCW.

Guest T®ITEC Report post Posted January 30, 2004 ...Eh. The more WCW sucked, the more I loved it. WCW 2000 = solid gold. I miss the endless array of cruiserweight matches from '96, too, 'cause those are the only matches I'll go back and watch now. I think, really, that I just miss all my favourite wrestlers from WCW that have since dropped off the face of the earth. Guys like... Mike Sanders. Is he still in TNA?
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2004 Mike Sanders was released from TNA around May 2003 (not sure on the month, but definitely 2nd quarter) due to him being a dick backstage and being pure shit in the ring. 2001 WCW is some of my favorite stuff in all of wrestling. We had Luger and Buff JOBBED THE FUCK OUT in March to O'Haire and Palumbo (who were growing each week as wrestlers), the cruisers being allowed to do pretty much anything they wanted to (VERTEBREAKERS GALORE~!), EZ Money debuting and becoming one of the most over workers in the company by his THIRD match (Jason Jett vs. Kwee-Wee at Greed was INSANELY hot; more so than it had any right to have been), The Magnificent Seven storyline (which, aside from the workers in the stable, I dug), and Chavo Guerrero Jr. kicking ass and taking names. We also got Hugh Morrus going fuck all and actually getting some decent pops, Lance Storm pushed as an upper-midcarder, Mike Awesome before he completely sucked, and NO HULK HOGAN. Sin, SuperBrawl: Revenge, and Greed are three of my favored WCW PPVs, and they happened in quick succession. Yes, I miss WCW. I miss the young guys getting their chance while the old guys were pushed aside. I miss the solid matches each week, and main events that although had two past-their-prime workers were booked in such a manner to make them seem great. I miss young workers being allowed to do more than your standard punch/kick offense, and the awesomeness of 3Count. Dammit... BRING BACK 3COUNT!
