spman 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2005 As a longtime Game Show addict since childhood, it's been a dream of mine for a longtime now to one day go to LA and be on The Price is Right. Anyone here ever been on TV on a Game Show? I wouldn't mind being on Jeopardy either, since they started to shift from mopre difficult field specific related questions to a broader mix of pop culture trivia along with the hard stuff. Wheel of Fortune doesn't interest me though.

starvenger 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2005 According to my brother it's a pain just to get INTO The Price Is Right. Lucky for you, he blogged it
spman 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2005 Yeah, I've heard from others that it's a rediculous hassle to even get in the audience for a taping, and that you basically HAVE to either be part of a large college / military group, or have some sort of really offbeat personality to actually make it onstage. Oh well, I'd still love to go.

Slayer 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2005 Fuck, I remember that too. First they had the head to head athletic competition where the guy went up something like 6-1 and then they brought back six people who had been eliminated to vote for who they wanted to win. If just one person voted for the dude it would have been over, but all six voted against him for some stupid shit that wasn't even really his fault and happened way back in the third week or so, and the chick won I believe that is where my cynicism about the possible scriptedness of "reality" shows comes from, because there are so many things about these shows (see above) that just scream "RIGGED!" As for regular game shows, I think most people have enough sense to know if it's not a show based on pure knowledge (ex: Jeopardy) that the show makers are going to be looking for more personality than brains. In other words, shouting... lots and lots of shouting. Jumping up and down a lot doesn't hurt either
fairtoflair7 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2005 Press Your Luck( not Whammy) is probably my favorite gameshow. I wanted to be on it so badly I just love the back and forth nature that the game brings. Ced 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2005 When I was in high school there was one substitute teacher with the claim to fame that he made it to contestant's row on The Price is Right but failed to get onto the stage and play a game. He even brought a tape in as proof. I wish I could remember what his name was.
The Metal Maniac 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2005 Anyone ever see the video of that guy who got up on The Price is Right, and bet 420 on everything? The worst part was, he actually would have made it on to the stage, had someone not wagered 421.

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted June 9, 2005 I've been tryin to get on Hoosier Millionaire since I turned 18. It's a state lottery show where they get eight random fucks from the state, and they guess numbers and win the amount of money behind the number. That's it. Whoever gets the most goes on to the million dollar round. The good part is, even if you lose, you keep what you win on the show, with three rounds and $1,000 being the lowest dollar amount on the board, the worst that can happen is you win three grand and get on tv. Furthermore, I'm pretty sure the person who dropped/lost the belt was the girl that won. I don't remember if that was the case, I just remember that he was continually referred to as the scapegoat for that incident over the remainder of the show. What's even funnier when you think about it is give the timing of the incident (3rd or 4th week in), at least one (maybe two) of the eliminated who voted in the final would not even have been around for the incident. If those people voted against him did it because they just didn't like the guy, that would have been fine, but I remember every single one citing the incident as their justification. I wouldn't call Whammy bad, but it just doesn't have the appeal of the original. Overuse of the Whammy gimmick, maybe? When I was a kid, the appeal of PYL was the cutesy cartoons with the funny voices accompanying the Whammy. The new cartoons have the Whammy being more of a mean-spirited demon with a grunty voice. I half-expect him to say in a death-metal voice "I WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND SEND YOU TO HELL!" On top of that, the sound effects for PYL really added to the show, namely the "doo doo doo" of the board itself and the "whaa whaa!" when someone hit a Whammy. The sound effects of the new show just don't create same amount of tension and despair when someone "presses their luck"

If just one person voted for the dude it would have been over, but all six voted against him for some stupid shit that wasn't even really his fault and happened way back in the third week or so, and the chick won If I remember correctly, the only reason she even won one an athletic competition was because one of the competitions had to do with running like 10 miles or something, getting it timed, then doing it again and beat your time by a larger margin the second time than your opponent. Basically, Wolf ran it so fast the first time, that it was nearly impossible to beat the woman in the 2nd competition. She ran so slow in the first, that it was impossible for her to lose in the 2nd. Had he won that, the fucking idiots wouldn't have had a chance to vote anyway.
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2005 On the bright side, that show did provide the line, "Save the drama for your mama, and PUSH!" I always wish I could go on Card Sharks. What an easy game . . . "Lower, Higher, Higher, FREEZE!!!"
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2005 Tried to get on Double Dare as a kid, but they were booked for a year or something. Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2005 My lifelong friend Mike's first stepmom made it to Contestant's Row on TPIR. She showed my family the tape AND the carpet contestants not appearing on stage won. I was quite sad over the divorce. Of course, Mike pretty much instigated it.
